The galaxy fears Thrawn as much as they do Vader for very different reasons, as they are the right and left hands of the Emperor. His rank of Grand Admiral is among the highest within the Imperial military and all the more impressive that he achieved it while being an alien amongst a xenophobic human centric empire if that helps tell you how good he is at his job.

I was so glad they brought Thrawn into canon again. He was in the old Thrawn books in Legends. And he's basically the best Imperial strategist there is. Such a cool character

We’ve had a six month time jump and we’re now only 2 years away from episode 4 a new hope. Kanan is 31 years old, he was 14 during order 66. Grand Admiral Thrawn was a major character in the pre Disney canon where he had his own book trilogy. He also has his own book trilogy in the new Disney canon too which I recommend you check out. The man is probably the smartest imperial you’ll ever see.

The smartest imperial besides maybe Sidious. Thrawn is a military genius and the smartest tactician/strategist in the empire. Sidious is a political genius who is really good at playing the long game. I feel like those two are similarly smart, although in different ways.

@@maltemartin4580 I really like how the Thrawn books parallel both his and Vader‘s style of command, rather than punishing failures like Vader, Thrawn rewards success and loyalty of his generals. If I were to serve in the empire, I think Thrawn‘s fleet would be the best place to be

@@JHolland that’s explored in the book Thrawn: Alliances. At this time, he was still on his home planet since his species, the Chiss, very rarely interact with the galaxy around them. He actually had a run in with Anakin back then, which serves as the main conflict both him and Vader have to deal with. During the early days of the empire, he would then submit his service to the emperor and was quick to climb up the ranks to become Grand Admiral.

When the Season 3 trailer premiered and it was revealed that Thrawn was becoming Canon, hardcore Star Wars fans (including myself) went wild because it was the first time a major non Canon character was brought back under Disney. Thrawn was one of the most popular characters from outside the films and fans spent years hoping he’d make a live action appearance one day and this was seen as a big step. Looking forward to seeing you react to the Grand Admiral at work 🙂

Thrawn is NO JOKE! He's the smartest guy in the Empire outside maybe Palpatine. Thrawn is actually Lukes biggest threat after Episode 6. Theres books about Luke trying to chase down Thrawn and stop him, and Thrawn outwits Luke almost every time. He is smarter then Vader, Maul, Dooku and such. He is a very dangerous villain.

Man, people went INSANE when Thrawn was revealed in one of the trailers - he was the villain in the first widely successful Star Wars novels that established the post-RotJ canon (before the Disney acquisition) and those novels shaped a lot of what came after (including coining the word Coruscant before the prequels even existed).

Thrawn is big shit for us old time SW fans. He was the main villain in a book trilogy that took place after Return of the Jedi. Honestly, that should have been the sequel trilogy. So many of us fans were so happy to get Thrawn introduced into canon. He is a big danger. He's a brilliant strategist.

I was introduced to Thrawn in rebels but love his character. He not like other imperialists who try to thwart attacks right away. He takes his time and uses his mind to formulate a strategy.

The Bendu is voiced by none other than the legendary Tom Baker, best known for playing the titular character on the British sci-fi show Doctor Who, from 1974 to 1981, the longest any actor has ever played the role. He’s easily the most recognizable and iconic version of the character, famously depicted with an absurdly long, multicolored scarf, and a fedora on top of his massive head of curly hair. Seeing him playing a role like this in Star Wars felt really special, as the Bendu is a sort of very mysterious, almost extra-dimensional being who possesses great wisdom, and yet he’s also a lighthearted goofball with a gentle and caring demeanor, much like The Doctor.

Grand Admiral Thrawn as said in his name is an grand admiral. Grand admirals are the best of the best, highest ranking admirals in the Imperial military system. Grand Admiral thrawn was a legends character, and his story is different in legends than in canon. In canon he is the only grand admiral, but in legends there are many. (legends) In the imperial military system there can only be 12 grand admirals, and there in legends there have been more than 12 but got replaced or died and someone else, in this case Thrawn got promoted by Palpatine to make up the 12 count. You should check them out in the legends.

The word bendu dates back to George Lucas’s original story treatments for Star Wars. Jedi knights were alternatively called the Jedi Bendu. And of course he uses the original names for the light and dark side of the force, Ashla and Bogan. We actually heard the former from Chava as what the lasats believe in Thrawn is a tactical genius. According to his creator, he’s a composite of historical and fictional personalities, including Erwin Rommel, Robert E Lee, Hannibal Barca, Alexander the Great, and Sherlock Holmes. Rommel was a German general and military theorist in the defense force of nazi germany in WWII, Hannibal a Carthaginian general who commanded Carthage’s main army against Rome in the 2nd Punic War, I think the rest are well known.

In the old Thrawn Trilogy back when it used to be canon, Thrawn took control of the imperial remnants 5 years after the battle of Endor in episode 6, and absolutely whooped the New Republic until he was betrayed

As much as I love season 3, I really wish that darkside Ezra was a bigger thing than it was. Like, I get why they dropped it so fast, as having Maul, Thrawn, and darkside Ezra being factors all at once might have been hard to balance, but still it's a bummer that it just got brushed aside.

If you want to know more about Thrawn pre Star Wars Rebels i highly recommend the canon novel Thrawn by Timothy Zahn which released a month after the final episode of Star Wars Rebels in 11 April 2017. Timothy Zahn Created the character all the way back in 1991 with Heir to the Empire which was followed by Dark Forces Rising and The Last Command all taking place 5 years after Return of the Jedi same timeframe as Mandalorian.

"Knowing your enemy is important" How apt. Ezra is letting his emotions drive him, motivate him, control his decisions. A Jedi master would let his emotions inform his perspective, but to see the world clearly, and not be distracted. Grand Admiral Thrawn, as you noticed, has his emotions well and truly under control. He does show emotion, we'll see it soon, but he keeps a lid on it. Meanwhile he sees the world clearly, studying the worlds he visits, and the cultures his enemies grew up in. He knows his enemy, he acts with purpose, without distractions. Thrawn isn't force sensitive (as far as we can tell), but if he was, he would be unmatched by anyone. This is why he is our new Antagonist. While he may not have force powers or a lightsaber, he knows his enemies, he knows his allies, and he knows himself. What a fascinating parallel. Ezra is letting his emotions like compassion, anxiety, love, righteousness push him down a path of destruction and failure. Thrawn keeps his emotions hidden away, almost like a Jedi, and that allows him to be one of the most successful villains in the franchise. But will that be enough? It wasn't enough for the Jedi after all.

Kanan character has some similar traits with Rahm Kota from force unleashed games just like kota him getting blind cuts the Jedi vision to connect through the force so Kanan has to learn a new way to connect back to force just like Rahm Kota did
