To be fair, while these shafts are space ship sized, they don't lead DIRECTLY to the power source. They put some twists and turns in, instead of like the first one which was literally a line from point A to B.

The whole thing took 2 years and cost 1200 Wupiupi. This is why they live like peasants. Anakin forced his own mother into slavery to pay for it.
