Resolution is a big factor, that's why this past console generation had you choosing between 1080 60fps and 4k 30fps. This kind of games were normally rendered at 360 resolutions, 480p at max, 1080 is a really big jump.

this game is such a blast (yes it does have its rough parts, constantly respawning enemies are a pain in the arse, which means it's not for everyone) but i love it 😊

I got this and I'm loving it. I'm not noticing performance issues. It looks great. There probably was lag at some point, but nothing out of the norm or that I actually noticed. It's not a remaster, so don't expect it to be. It's an old game. But with the high resolution, widescreen and higher frame rate, it looks awesome.

The 40 - 60 you mention is rather generous tbh Contra Network has a frame rate test and wow, there's sections where the game struggles to maintain 20 FPS. Aspyr need to patch this game squat.

Personally I wouldn't want this to remake this game. Remaster? Sure, just making it HD and better/up to date designs is always cool. But if they were to remake it, chances are they may butcher the game. Then again this is a fan favorite, so who knows?

I bought this game out of pure excitement and to relive nostalgia. I've played it for a bit and enjoyed it but I didn't think I'd see framerate stutters in a 2005 port. I should have waited for a patch.

Picked up the switch port first due to portability and thought it was near unplayable with the wildly varying framerate. Decided to just pick up the PS4 version and it is like night and day. Runs buttery smooth, much higher resolution, textures do not look as lower res, and it seems like there were some effects that are missing on the Switch version that are in the PS4 one. I really hope they can fix this eventually since the Switch version as it is now is a train wreck.

Finally someone noticed that the pixel shaders and bump maps do not work on switch. I agree it is unplayable. Plus team commands don't work.

I play MK11, Warframe, and Skyrim on Switch. I'm used to having to deal with reduced graphics and for me, I prefer functionality. I also played the Bioshock trilogy which also has no gyro controls (and completed 1 and 2) but as much as I had my eye on this, I'm honestly gonna pass.

This is my favourite game from my childhood and I’ve been loving replaying it. I’ve had no problems with it at all, it is exactly how I remember it. Nostalgic gamers won’t care as much I feel, the only ones that will really care about the performance are newer gamers used to modern norms. I think too many people are expecting too much from this.

Looks interesting. Considering the dated visuals this one might be nice to pick up for handheld play on my Switch Lite. With the sale this week my catalogue and back catalogue of games which was already bloated is totally overflowing. The Nintendo Switch has the opposite problems of basically every Nintendo console like the n64, gamecube, wii u, etc. I kind of like the dated look. Reminds me of that time period of gaming.

The point around 5 minutes where you put the subtitle about that stutter though, I just bought the game this morning and played through that beginning part and had no such stutter at all in handheld mode on a switch lite

In my opinion it runs better in handheld than docked. I do hope they bring a patch for frame rate. I’ll settle for 30 with absolute no drops but it def needs to be patched a little. I’ve never played the game so I don’t know how to compare it but I’m having a blast playing it

Having never played it but had heard way back when that it was awesome, I was looking forward to giving this a go on the Switch. Disappointed they didn't update the graphics at all. The see-sawing frame rate and the lack of motion controls is also a super downer. I mean, when the switch can handle overwatch and Doom, is there really an excuse? I'll stick to Doom Eternal being on sale methinks...

@@arenaron3602 You thank modders for that as the vanilla game was very unfinished with broken promises (Space battles were badly designed with the interiors barebones, The saber heroes were poorly designed as most are very samey and the fact that the maps are too small that didn't fully represented the planets in some cases (cof cof Kasshykk is so lacking of plant life that made it so appealing in the movies cof cof) and cruisers in the scale, the classes were so unbalanced and the AI was with errors, they promised space to ground and we never get it without mod). the only reason that game was never abandoned is because Battlefront III was cancelled (so we were stuck with it untill EA's Reboot) and because modders went to work and made what the devs never bothered to make and more

Wonder how possible a good port of Jedi Fallen Order would be? Would be the closest thing to an Uncharted game we could get unless the classic Tomb Raider remakes and newer reboots came over. I would love the classic Tomb Raider HD Collection on Switch and of course the reboots. Surprised they didn't just port the OG Star Wars Battle Front (2).
