I went to the opening night premiere... Everyone in my movie cheered like crazy, and generally loved it.. My wife, and I are lifelong Star Wars fans, and we absolutely loved it.. I'm certainly not telling other people how to feel, but don't listen to the critics.. Go see it, and judge for yourself.. Given all the Garbage I've watched, and read online I was expecting the worst.. I was pleasantly surprised. They didn't kill Kylo Ren. They killed Ben Solo. Ben Solo killed his Kylo Ren persona, but I'm with you. I wanted him to live. The Skywalker family was a tale of tragedy from start to finish. I thought we were getting the reverse of Anakin's story and things were to be made right. I don't feel that killing the last Skywalker did that at all. And Rey doesn't count just because she's taken their last name. The title of this movie doesn't really fit except that the last Skywalker, Ben Solo, did rise up and choose to save what he loved and as a result save the galaxy, only to then die and apparently not matter.

Brian Roxc the Skywalkers line was already dead. Luke never had a heir to carry his last name, the Jedi Order didn’t allowed their Jedi’s to even marry so having kids was probably out of the picture for Luke. Yes, Ben is Leia’s son and he has Skywalker blood in him but he is a Solo at the end of the day, not a Skywalker. The Skywalkers were destined to end the moment Luke decided to become a Jedi and with that gave up on having a family of his own.

I think Rey's decision to take on the Skywalker name is indicative of not so much a blood relative thing, but a decision to take on the Skywalker persona, and reject the Palpatine persona. You can be whatever you want to be, Rey learned that early in the final SW trilogy.
