JJ didn't do too bad in ep 7. I loved the raw brutality of the Finn vs Kylo and then Rey vs Kylo duels. With force use abilities mixed in. I thought they would expand and grow off of that in ep 8...but...um...no. But...JJ is back for ep 9 and he gets Star Wars lore and respects it. He's also very creative. So I'm hopeful for ep 9. Buy yes, FXitinPost should definitely be involved in future films...at least as choreograph consultants. Their creativity is spot on.

What’s interesting about the original scene is that Alec and the actor who played vader in his suit used glass tubes so they couldn’t make contact. When they used metal rods the choreography actually looked like they were trying to kill each other. Just a fun fact.

Now that’s how Vader should of acted, you can see and feel the rage and emotion from him. Obiwan is both a reminder of who he was and was destined to be, and also of what he had lost. His wife, potential child, and the possibility to reforge the galaxy to his own Empire, where he believed he could bring peace, and prosperity. This is the man that put him in this excruciating suit and took away his true powers potential 20 years prior.

When they tell the most LOYAL FANBASE IN HISTORY, "WE DON'T SERVE YOUR KIND HERE", they are indeed losing money. After almost 40 years we could have been going to the theater 10 times in a row if it they had created anything legit. But, we got the message. And the unthinkable happened - "Solo" lost money.

Well all I can say is that I am obviously a lot older than you and I saw Star Wars when it originally released in 1977. I remember that the fight scene was incredible however I know that I was 14 years old and that computer technology was non-existent at that time and special effects and would only really blossom after the introduction of the PC in 1981, so what I witnessed on the theater screen was still breathtaking for the time.

I totally get that. And I am old enough to appreciate the value of practical effects...and I explain to my kids all the time that when people first saw Star Wars in theater they were awestruck and amazed. Nobody had ever seen anything like that before. I relate it to my personal experience of seeing Jurassic Park for the first time. THX sound and CG like never before. But I totally believe that Star Wars paved the way.

I have watched many reactions to this video, and you are the first to notice the "Palpatine Stab" (3:57) as you called it xD In the beginning, I have noticed many times, Obi-Wan was fighting much like a Sith... And had a few moves from the Emperor himself. Great video and reaction! :D

Thanks! I've watched their video a few times and I keep noticing new things. I'd really like to hear some commentary from FXitinPost because this reimagined scene is definitely prequel(the good parts) heavy. The stab stood out to me because Palpatine/Darth Sidious is one of my favorite characters in Star Wars. The stab is also somewhat reminiscent of Rey in TFA. Very intriguing. While I don't want to defend Disney and how it handled Star Wars, I would like to perpose a possible answer to your question as to why this fan made product could be so much better than the new canon movies: We're just willing to ignore the flaws we do see because it isn't a big story production, instead it's some extra care on a heart stopping moment in the larger story, a great scene. The short is incredible, but there are technical flaws that we viewers are okay with since it injects so much heart into this beloved scene. The movies on the other hand are lacking heart, consistency, and vital story components because it's not popular to have the white straight hero save the day right now. To recap, this short doesn't have to carry a story, just show it's love for this scene and we as fans relate and appreciate that more than anything the movies have given us.
@smolsfamilyreactions
@smolsfamilyreactions 5 жыл бұрын
I agree with that. It's funny because after some time to think about it I realized almost the same thing. If Lucasfilm put this exact same quality in a movie we would all complain about the flaws and the noticeable poor execution. The Last Jedi is a perfect example. Very high quality but no real vision in regards to Star Wars lore. So I've been trying to figure out exactly why I'm so drawn to this Scene 38 Reimagined... and I think it's as simple as ... like you said... filled with heart and passion for the saga as a whole. That's what makes it so appealing. Thanks for the comments.

Fun fact about David Prowse. In Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, they got Bob Anderson (The Princess Bride) to handle fight choreography. Bob got so frustrated with David's inability to properly do the fights (kept breaking the lightsaber props) that he personally replaced him as Vader during the the fights with Luke. David was understandably upset, but the fights in ESB and RotJ were definitely better for it.

Thanks for watching and for the comment. Disney/Lucasfilm is stifled by their own fear of blowing it with Star Wars. I've certainly seen a high level of creativity with the Marvel which is owned by Disney. So I would say it's not Disney as much as it is Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm. It's a shame because the potential they have with Star Wars is limitless.

Star Wars was made and led by a feminist, not a woman. There were reports that there were scenes that were actually really good but she didn't like it and instead of telling the person to change the scene, she fired the person. She even ruined the Galaxy Edge. Again, reports were actually shown on a drawing board that Galaxy Edge was supposed to be an actual amusement park, again a feminist ruined it

I don’t mind the Sequel fights being kinda weak because it implies the heavy difference between the new, hardly trained force users and the Jedi and Sith of old. Both Rey and Kylo are fairly sloppy and wild, whereas if Anakin and Obi-Wan were in their shoes (fighting off Snoke’s guards) the fight would be over much quicker. I understand the sentiment, of course, but I think people forget that the new characters aren’t as well trained or well disciplined as the OT/PT characters were.
@smolsfamilyreactions
@smolsfamilyreactions 5 жыл бұрын
I understand that and agree. Many have criticized the fight between Rey and Kylo in ep 7. I for one enjoy the raw brutality of that fight. It's starkly different than the polished Jedi of old. JJ did it right. I think my point is more in regards to the overall creativity of the fights as opposed to the style.
@Irrelevant_BigBrain

@Smols Family Reactions IMO the fight in episode 7 (Rey and Kylo Ren) was pretty good and kind of made sense. Kylo has a disadvantage from getting shot by Chewie’s Blaster, so he couldn’t perform as good as usual, and Rey isn’t the best with lightsabers. So it made sense that the fight would be sloppy. Episode 8 however shouldn’t have an exception no one was injured and both Rey and Kylo Ren both have lightsaber training.

As far as "why could fans make it and not the original movie team", I heard George Lucas say in a documentary something to the effect that he deliberately wanted the fight to be slow as it was between one very old man, and another man that was mostly machine (ie stiff and robotic) and that the intensity of light sabre battles would increase through the other two movies as Lukes proficiency with the weapon would get better. So I think they deliberately started out slow and stiff to be able to wow the audience more later on when they released Episode 5 and 6 where the light sabre action is a little more intense. Of course, if you start by watching Episode 1-3 first as I'm sure many younger viewers might do today, you unfortunately get a rather sad effect instead when you get to the fight in A New Hope.
@smolsfamilyreactions
@smolsfamilyreactions 5 жыл бұрын
I wasn't very clear in the video. When I said why can fans do this yet we don't see this type of creativity in the films...I wasn't referring to the fight between Old Ben and Vader. At the time that was visionary. Although Lucas has admitted that he was limited by David Prowse with a sword in the Vader suit and subpar props. My point is more in reference towards today's films which have incredible special effects but limited creativity and vision. Fans can do it today with limited resources so why can't we get more of this type of creativity onscreen with better technology and more money. I love the original trilogy and dont want any of it to change. I love this reimagined scene because of the lore that we now understand. But no, my comments weren't meant to imply that I was referring to fans doing a better job with this specific scene.
@FoilHatMusic
@FoilHatMusic 5 жыл бұрын
@@smolsfamilyreactions OH ok gotcha, well on that point I do agree with you completely then, I often feel the same way about most modern films. Although I do think Ep4 could have probably benefitted from a slightly more fluent and aggressive light sabre fight between Kenobi and Vader (some parts of the original version are a little too silly in their wooden stiffness, like the infamous "Kenobi spin") but probably not to the extreme point that this fan made production took it - it's cool to see but wouldn't have fit the film imho.
@wastelandoof485
@wastelandoof485 5 жыл бұрын
Just trying to clarify a touch, the main reason why they couldn't have a more dramatic, fast pace, evil with every strike from vader, was because the sabers we're made out of glass. Unlike the metal CG poles used nowadays, with edits over them, they would break if they hit one another violently. You can even see moments when they are saber-locked in the OT, they aren't fully touching at parts.
@smolsfamilyreactions

Thanks for the comment. Please understand I'm not questioning the original Obi Wan vs Vader scene...it was just right for that movie at that time. My point is we are seeing more and more fan edits and fan movies that show more creativity and understanding of Star Wars lore than we are getting from Disney today. It's not a critique of the original scene which I still prefer.

I will agree that Disney is about money. They're a business and I'm not going to fault a business for wanting to make money. The problem is when the money outweighs the product. And maybe that is in play with Disney. However, Lucasfilm employs many who are actual Star Wars fans who do have passion for the product. But, in the corporate world they are managed by agendas and schedules and budgets and throw in directors who have their own vision of things and well... the overall product suffers. That being said, I still enjoy what they've put out, summer more than others, but I'm hopeful that JJ will right the ship in ep 9. We'll see. Thanks for the view and comment.

I know there are many within Lucasfilm that definitely care a lot. Dave Filoni for one. The problem, I believe, is a lack of vision from the story group which has allowed directors to go their own directions. Mix that in with the corporate pressure from Disney along with pushing agendas instead of story...and we get what we have. Now to be fair, I absolutely love Rogue One, as a whole... not just the Vader scene. I also really liked and still enjoy TFA. But mainly because of what it set up with the new characters and possible story lines. I do also like Solo. The Last Jedi...not so much. So I like 3 of the 4 they released. Can they do better? Be they more creative with light saber sequences and force abilities... absolutely! But back to the point, there are many who care but who are caught up in the system and therefore are limited with what they can put out.

I have an Idea. How about Lucasfilm, in order to reconcile, should create their own award show. An award for the best star wars adaptation/fanfilm in various categories on ALL levels of skill. (because some of the amature FX shorts might have spectacular writing). And the top winners of each category get a "Lucas Grant" if you will to make an hour long star wars film that will be shown across the country in select theaters. Which will encourage other fans to make their own fan films and then.... so we can TAKE BACK STAR WARS

My criticism is not of the original 1977 Star Wars but rather the recent movies that lack the creativity and heart shown in this reimagined scene. The original is a classic that should never change. My point is that if fans can get this creative with a limited budget and resources, why couldn't Lucasfilm do better with the recent films.

I totally agree with you! Originally without any other Star Wars movies it's just fine. It's just harder to watch after the all the other movies came out. Picture Anakin Vs. Obi Wan in Revenge of the Sith. Or even Luke vs Vader in Empire a d ROTJ. But original is always best. That's why I like the title of the fan made film.."Reimagined." But I do wish the newer films, with now superiorior technology and years of lore to back them up, would be a little more creative when it comes to light saber duels.

the problem is that the cgi producin studios have a limited time and often the animators and artist are forced to work 24/7 to finish the job to get payed. Then another problem is that the moviecreator take a few CDI and animation Studios and not only one so everyone do it best to get payed and everyone is working to dead and thats a big reason why the CGI in many High rated movies goes down or looks crapy... its really shitty but a big company like disney gives a shit on theyr moviequality... we can see it in star wars 8... good effects but shitty story...

I liked this for what it was - a standalone piece. But I cant see it helping the story as this vid stands. However, you ask about the shortage of vision of the original fight. Well there was good reasoning back in the day of its making. All of it really, _not,_ in Universe (They used that as explanation, which does make sense), but it was mostly real world issues. First of all in the year of release 77 there was no such thing as episode 4. It was expected to be a one off _(was also expected to flop at box office)_ even though Lucas had all sorts of grande ideas bouncing around his head. 2. Alec Guinness was in his 60's and unlike Christopher Lee - another old guy who had to have a stand in for his fight scene's - he wasn't a trained fencer. 3.Prowse had trouble seeing through the mask. He had to look through the mouth piece, also as a body builder wearing, as you point out, a heavy padded and hot suit he had limited mobility _(Prowse did not do the fight in ESB)._ Basically, neither of the actor's were particularly agile. If you look at the Vader in this vid, the actor clearly carries neither the Height or physical bulk of Prowse. 4. The lightsaber props back then were rather fragile. Then there is time and Budgetary constraints. With the success of ANH came the serialisation so Budget was upped by 50% for ESB so they had the clout to take things up a notch but not to a great extent. Mostly it was scenery changes rather than a sudden explosion of fencing skill. While I loved this reimagining I am now thinking it would have to be paired down for it to fit the story. Its to fast and a bit showy (Twirling sabers) for the characters at this point - a big powerful yet ageing Cyborg guy with metal arms and legs, and a Old man who has seen his skill eroded through a lack of appropriate training and advancing old age. Also the Physical punching takes things up to Super Hero level. A headbutt, punch and back-hander all from a guy with metal arms onto a old guy followed up by being smashed into the wall (Although great as a stand alone moment) just seems excessive. Suddenly old man Obi Wan is as resilient as the incredible hulk. Better to have had Obi duck and stumble in avoiding these hits before launching him at the wall with a shorter distance and lesser impact. I enjoyed it but I think a critical eye would see that it would mess with the overall story. The makers clearly saw that this tips the emotional balance for the viewer away from the Hero and onto the Villain and thats why they put in the "I hate you" material in the third stage, to remind us of what went before (That would be unnecessary "Tell" to put in the Movie) Before those lines are heard, you have to admit - as many have - you wanted to see Vader rip the absolute arse out of poor Obi. And we have to remember that Vader in 77 was the Evil and traitorous black knight and brute and not Luke and Leia's tragic father. Personally, I find that these fan takes on Vader are just plagiarising what we have already seen and not offering any thing thats particularly new. Its all enjoyable, but I have to disagree, its not visionary. Its not original. 👍 . .

Thanks for the comments. I didn't ask about the shortage of vision for the 1st fight as at the time it was visionary! I simply pointed out that they were limited with David Prowse and the Vader costume. My point about vision and imagination is for the films today! The use of the force and action sequences with the light sabers in this fan film and others shows that actual movie creators can and should step up their game. That was really my point. And yes, I agree. I like this for what it is. I in no way want this to replace the original sequence. It's just cool to watch now because we understand the history of Anakin and Obi Wan. I'm sure that's why they title the film "... Reimagined" it's just what we imagine put to film. Again, thanks for the view and comments!

I will respectfully disagree with you and I feel that this fight fits in well with the rest of the saga. Obviously Lucas didn't know where this whole saga was going to go back when he made ANH so the original Vader/Kenobi fight now just looks out of place in the middle of what Lucas eventually built around it. whoever made this isn't trying to be original. They're just simply giving us an updated version of this fight that fits in better with the now existing entire saga we have today. Especially if you're considering a young kid who's watching it all for the first time, thematically this just fits in better. I also don't feel Vader or Kenobi move around too fast in this fight at all. Sure they're older now but they're still masters of the force and this new fight shows that off very well. They aren't nearly as agile here as they were in ROTS but it looks on pace with what we see comes before it now. In Star Wars canon we first see Vader showing how powerful he is when he fights off Ezra and Kanan with ease. Then we see Vader moving about the same pace as he is here when he fights Asoka while swinging the same heavy looking blows as he is here. Then in Rogue One we see the unstoppable force that Vader is when he rips through those soldiers which is right before ANH. Since Vader has had 20 years of built up rage and anger since the fight on Mustafar, I think it's fitting he'd show even more ferocity when finally clashing with Kenobi again. Kenobi is much older now sure, but he's still a Jedi master. We have zero information about what Kenobi was doing on Tatooine so it's wrong to make the assumption that he lost all his skill in that time. We do see him finally take out Maul for good on Tatooine in pretty quick work so he's clearly still got some fighting skill in him. In this fight he's still just buying time for the others while keeping Vader Occupied and he's clearly on the defensive the whole time. We have seen older Jedi/Sith doing much more athletic stuff in the prequels like Palpatine, Dooku and Yoda so this doesn't feel out of place to me at all. I think this fight also helps to show you just how much Vader is just toying around with Luke in ESB in comparison to this new fight, if he wanted to kill him he would've killed him. The one point I will agree with you on though is when Vader force pushed kenobi, he impacted that wall a little too heavily and seemed to recover a bit to quick from it. Might of worked a bit better if he had slid along the ground a little slower before hitting up against the wall. Anyways that's my take on it. But hey, at the end of the day we can all have different perspectives but still love Star Wars the same way. ;)

I definitely agree with all of this. I assume the disagreement was with the other comments. The fight in Star Wars...before it was A New Hope fits in just fine with that movie. The fight is still a little slow and clunky and not that exciting but it fits in fine. It's only when you add the rest of Star Wars lore to the equation that the original fight seems out of place. Which is why I love this fan made Reimagined film!! Great points on everything you mentioned!

@G-Rock Muz - I'm sure you'll agree, I love that fans make stuff like this and whether it fits canon or not doesn't bother me because it's simply making something they're passionate about. In this case it really does make sense with the overall lore and character arcs of all involved. What really gets me is that with recent big screen films the lack of vision and creativity for the light saber battles is evident and frustrating. I did enjoy the first fight between Rey and Kylo because it was not polished but raw. But they haven't taken it anywhere since. The Vader scene in Rogue One is probably the best scene the Disney era has come out with. They have gotten a little creative with the force and force abilities, Kylo reading minds, Freezing blaster bolts, force-time between Rey and Kylo, force projections, Yoda seemingly more physical and able to affect the physical world, but beyond that I'm disappointed with the lack of classic sword/ light saber dueling with force abilities. I really hope they pick it up in ep 9. That's the point I tried to make in my reaction... just not that well...lol.

Why can't Disney do this on screen? It is because they are focusing on new stories, not fixing previous ones. #1 TFA: started to show this kind of lightsaber fighting with Rey and Kylo, then she gets called a Mary Sue, and JJ gets criticized for rehashing ANH, so failure of a movie #2 Rogue One was not about vader or about lightsabers yet people love his scene but Disney gets no credit for putting out a good movie. People say the only good thing about the entire movie was the vader scene, so failure of a movie #3 LTJ: Show acrobatics with kylo vs luke, and Rey + Kylo -but people can't get over how they treated Luke, or previously unseen aspects of or ways to manipulate the force, so failure of a movie #4: Solo: not about lightsabers, and people can't handle recasting of iconic characters, so failure of a movie. So when would they really have time to do this? Rebels--they did it all of the time, but not big screen so it doesn't count. Maybe the question you are really asking should be why don't they make movies about the characters you want to see redone--Like Vader, and OB1, and Luke. Well, because they are trying to move on to new characters and new stories. They also need to stay in business. Meaning Disney is investing 200-300 million dollars per film and Lucasfilm needs to recover this for Disney plus profits in order to keep making SW films. The problem is that some fans are not interested in all of that. Imagine if Disney said that Lucasfilm is going to shift focus to doing origin stories about Vader, or Luke or Obi-wan and show them kicking ass with lightsabers--people will moan and say it is nothing new, boring--same old shit, SW is dead. Fans who make stuff like this don't get criticized for rehashing the same stuff as long as it is "creative" and "well done". I think this video is great and these guys did an awesome job with excellent choreography. But the reality is, they did take bits and pieces of other films integrated them in a creative way into this stand alone scene to make it look cool. But this would not work in the 2 hour movie. It would create a rehash problem with the other films. It's not just a call back, it is essentially the same thing again. It is a rehash as what came before in the timeline, and would spoil the similar sequences in future films.Those would now be rehashes of this. This is a problem Lucasfilm has to deal with, that fans who create content do not. Disney/Lucasfilm could never put out the exact same thing without being skewered saying they are just milking it and ruining to Original Movies for profit.

I think you read a lot into my comments. Plus I've pointed out some of what you said here in other comments. I actually like the fight between Kylo and Rey in TFA(again mentioned in another comment). I do not want old characters recreated or scenes redone. I love what we have. My point is the level of creativity with the use of light sabers and the force is a little lackluster. Watch TLJ... the only time 2 lightsabers touch is in Luke's flash back to Kylo in his tent. Otherwise... no lightsaber duel at all. Yes, I may have not been clear in the video, I was just excited by what I saw. But I do believe Lucasfilm can do a lot better with both the story and action sequences... again... the use of the force in light saber battles... which we saw a little of in TFA. By the way. I love Rogue One! Great movie and story. Not just because of the Vader scene, which is a bonus. But because the story was awesome! And I love Solo for the same reason. It got treated unfairly at the box office because it was released too close to TLJ and because of fan backlash. I like a good story that fits with the overall lore of Star Wars as a whole. Thank you for the view and your comments.
