Absolutely jaw dropping... Never in my wildest dreams would I have anticipated seeing this pop up in my subscription feed. But here we are! A brand new epic stop motion from Xuande88 himself! You were incredibly influential to so many of us. I still remember watching your early work and getting inspired to try out stop motion for myself years ago... This was such a beautiful stop motion film to watch. The nostalgia factor alone was top notch! I love the 2003 era of Clone Wars materials and it felt like jumping right back into those days. From the choices in soundtrack, to characters, and even in the way you filmed its grandiose action scenes! I've been working on a similar themed project recently and I have to admit feeling somewhat jealous with how masterfully you pulled it off! Only thing to me that feels a little off is seeing the AT-AP in the early years of the clone wars, though I've made this exact same mistake in my own films haha. I guess we can assume it's a prototype of some sort. And since they never made the AP-XT or the AT-PT walkers into toys you have to work with what you've got. Set design here... Oh man it was gorgeous. This whole stop motion was just breathtaking to behold! I love your art direction here, crafting your own world with expert usage of props and snow effects. I can't imagine how long that must have taken to put together, it all looked so realistic! And there were many different wide shots where you pull back and it still appears convincing! Little shots like the one at the beginning of the kybuck looking out over the tranquil landscape. Or the bombastic takeoff of Anakin's starship into the blue sky. I just can't get over how well put together it was... Truly the mark of a fantastic filmmaker to sell the world like that. You did a lot of creative work akin to those previously mentioned shots throughout. One in particular I liked was the Octuptarra droid's arrival, grabbing a clone from the ground with terrible metal talons and throwing him into the sky as it proceeds to lay ruin to their heavy walker. Talk about amping up the stakes! Only to be proceeded by Obi Wan dealing with it in a similar manner to the acklay from AOTC. The comedic timing of the mighty wardroid toppling right in front of Nute Gunray was just perfect. I also loved the way the Vulture droid crashed down into the AAT from the sky. All this keeps transitioning us as an audience between the different scenes, from air, to ground, to a different part of the action. Really natural in the progression too! Effects were also great. While obviously not hyper realistic they never needed to be. It really does remind me of the style of the microseries, with thicker blaster bolts and bright yellow explosions. The sheer number of blaster shots in each frame is astonishing...! I can't imagine how long it took to do that, even with some repetition! It also helps a lot seeing the space side of things in the battle. Well, air in this case. That's also something I've been trying to work on myself. It just adds to the overall scope of the battle and looks great if pulled off right. (One more thing I wanted to mention, I love how you do the movement of characters mouths and expressions. It's such a little detail but it adds SO MUCH to the final product, that really can't be understated...) Just an incredible project from start to finish. You meshed your own voice acting alongside classic lines in perfect places to make the entire thing feel right. And everything, from the framerate, to the effects, to the structure of the shots.... It was just so perfect. Thank you for your incredible work Xuande. You've inspired us all once again. And while I know how difficult it can be to even have the time to make stop motion films these days... you persevered even through that adversity. A rounding applause from me! And may the force be with you... Always.

Thanks Ronin! I’m a bit surprised I got this to anywhere near approximating a finished state myself. It was a whole lot easier to make these back when we were younger and had some more time on our hands. I started working on this one back when I had a short break during the holidays, and very quickly remembered just how incredibly time consuming these projects can be. I know you know this well. I really appreciate your very thoughtful comments on each aspect of the video that you enjoyed. This is why our stop motion community on KZbin is the best place to share these videos- you get to hear from people who know the art well, notice all the details and can truly appreciate all the work that went into it. The AT-AP is really my only walker, so it has ended up getting used in a variety of ways over the years. As you may have noticed in previous videos, I am a frequent offender when it comes to not maintaining continuity with certain elements of the established Star Wars timeline. This time at least I didn’t mismatch the clone phases (at least not as much). The AT-AP, apart from being a bit out of place, is also missing its main cannon, so yes, let’s say it’s a prototype they tried out before realizing that they probably needed that cannon! This was probably the biggest stop-motion set I’ve built so far. It was fun to make but I only had about a week to use it because I needed the space for other things. Thankfully I had a shot list and although of course I deviated from it because often the actual animating process takes you elsewhere and you get new ideas, I was able to get it all done in time for when I needed to break down the set. I was really excited to improve upon the mouth movements and facial expressions, though doing that and drawing lasers and lightsaber blades and creating all the png elements certainly does take forever. It’s funny because whenever I post a video like this people say “you’re back! can’t wait to see more videos!” and I’m thinking “whew, It’s been months of needing to get all this animating/editing done and trying to fit it into my busy life and I’ve finally finished! I’m ready to retire now…” :) Thank you so much for these glowing comments, and don’t worry about your own similar-themed project, we could all be working off the exact same script/storyboard and still each one of us will produce something entirely unique. Everyone brings their own flavor, style and creative ideas/skills. You are an exemplary example of this. Plus each time one of us pulls off something cool, it’s a chance for the rest of us to learn more and possibly assimilate something into our bag of tricks. Looking forward to seeing the new project when it’s ready! May the Force be with you too!

Been a while since I’ve been on KZbin so just got around to seeing this. But oh man talk about some amazing cinematography. Your set design just blew me away, that frozen tundra and light snow design must have been incredibly hard to pull off, very impressive. Your voice lines meshed perfectly with one another which was very outstanding. The attention to detail is remarkable. Very well done. I remember when I was a kid and the first stop motion I ever saw was “battle in the woods” by you way back in the day. That’s what inspired me to get into stop motions. I remember being so blown away by that as a kid, and wanting to create one myself. Thanks for inspiring so many of us Xaunde, and this video was a beautiful feeling of nostalgia, watching another video from the legend himself. Take care of yourself my friend :)
@oldxuande86114 жыл бұрын
It's been awhile since I've heard from you, welcome back! Thank you for all the kind comments! the tundra set was fun to make but it definitely took awhile to get all this edited. It made me miss when we knew a bit less about frame rate etc and it all felt much simpler and less time consuming. If I remember correctly, that clone war in the woods video only took a summer afternoon to shoot, and probably just a few days or so to edit. Thanks for all your amazing contributions to our community as well! Take care!

The hologram effect was achieved with using a combination of the adjusted “Bad TV” Final Cut Pro effect, the “colorize” effect, and some sequential cropping to simulate the activation and deactivation of the holo.
