Why would they need to disable the shields? TFA established that objects moving at near lightspeed can slip between the refresh rate of shields. That's how the _Falcon_ bypassed the shields around Starkiller Base to land on the planet. The _Raddus_ collided with the ship just before entering hyperspace so it would be moving fast enough to bypass its shields.

There's no sound here for the same reason. IRL there would be no sound at all because sound can't travel through space, but they included some to give a dramatic effect.

Are you talking about why Holdo didn't just tell Poe or any of the main characters the plan? Because all signs pointed to there being a traitor on the ship. Why should she trust an impulsive person with little experience in anything command related like Poe? And she was right not to considering he staged a mutiny after revealing her plan. Also the only thing his own plan accomplished was getting numerous shuttles shot down, while Holdo's saved the resistance. So other than the main characters being trustworthy because they're the main characters in a movie (something Holdo can't know). Why should she have revealed what she was doing?

Hyperspace tracking was a completely new concept as well so they had no idea to fully believe it, and the fact that the Supremacy was minutes behind them everytime they jumped would've meant that the spy was one of the people on the bridge who would know exactly where they were going to jump. So why should she have risked that? She had no reason to trust anyone other than the top leaders of the resistance. If it hadn't been for Poe's unilateral decided upon plan fucking up, the shuttles would've gotten away just fine, and Holdo would've stayed on board and lead the Supermacy on a wild goose chase.

@@Carbonara_Zero it sucks that I have to explain this to literally everyone who says this. how can you NOT see that the holdo maneuver was one in a million because there was no precedent for using it on purpose, not only that but it took a sheer amount of luck to make it work properly. Even if the success rates of the holdo maneuver where high- think about this, her craft (the MC85) was a valuable asset ESPECIALLY to the rebel alliance, why the fuck would they yamikaze their valuable ships in the small chance that it creates this? Even though technology such as the seismic charge are so much easier to use/cost efficient in situations like these. The holdo manuever takes PERCISE and SLOW aim and in the middle of a battle its so so so unlikely because of the chances of getting shot down charging the jump, however it worked in this situation because the fuel in the ship only amounted to one jump and clearly she was able to do it because there wasn't a big battle taking place around her. Also the holdo manuever was only used/made by her, it started with her just because of the circumstances; think about how wars used to be fought (especially in America) where they would stay with a crowd/marching band instead of guerilla warfare which was more practical- it just wasn't used because that's not how it worked.

The way all 3 plotlines all converge at once, with the score rising in intensity and then...silence. The fleet's destruction is so visually satisfying, before we hear the collision. noah walters to start off, I'm not a fan of what they did, but if you look into it, hyperspace generators get you halfway between the dimensions. That's what made hyperspace lanes so important. If there was something in our side, we would die. If there was something on the other side, we would die. Many pilots lost their lives trying to map out hyperspace lanes by making micro jumps until droids did it. So Disney got the lore right. The scariest part about hyperspace travel though would to hit something, not die, and be stuck on the other side.

I don't know if I 'd say brilliantly done, yes the acting doing by the officers was decent enough but the idea of hyper space ramming is dumb af. Why have they not been using it as a weapon this whole time? Look how effective it was at taking out that ship. It's just odd that this is the first time anyone (as far as we know) has ever done this yet they knew exactly what she was gonna do.

@@leojs5673 That's cool, I'm still entitled to an opinion on the matter, and more importantly writing a Star Wars film doesn't automatically make it a good film. It's the worst film in the entire series and just a bad movie in general. Also if you somehow mean that they were involved with the original trilogy, Rian Johnson was the primary driving force behind the writing of The Last Jedi and he was in no way involved with any other Star Wars content. The key thing here is that the quality of a movie isn't measured by the one making it, it's measured by those viewing it, we are the end user and it was shit from my point of view.

In the original cut of Return of the Jedi, the Millennium Falcon didn't escape the Death Star and Lando was killed. The preview audience were given cards to fill in about their reactions and hardly anyone was bothered that Lando died but they were all horrified that the Falcon blew up. Hence it's miraculous escape in the released version.

Guilherme Dias I don’t think a movie needs to deliberately tell you exactly what’s happening at that moment for you to understand it. Holdo hit the Supremacy when she was traveling at light speed just before she would have entered hyperspace. You should be able to assume that’s what happened because you just saw her tear through the Supremacy and not cry about the movie not giving you an exact narration of everything that is happening

Something I don't see many talking about is that holdo and Poe swap rulers as heroes and leaders. Poe understands what Luke is doing and leads the remaining resistance out of the cave instead of helping him, and Holdo does one of the coolest things in the series which sacrifices herself to save the remaining escape pods, both of these turned out to be more helpful than their initial roles with Poe's plan as a hero utterly failing and nearly dooming everyone else and Holdo's leader plan being good, but too secretive and ended up with lots of resistance members turning on her.

It's very bad writing though. If they knew it was possible to literally destroy nearly the entire fleet pursuing them, why not do this much earlier while launching the shuttles? They lose 1 ship and destroy dozens, including the flagship. Just poor writing, people give way too many excuses to Rian Johnson.

I actually have an answer for why the Raddus was the only ship in existence that could have done that! It wasn't the ship itself because the cruiser actually stopped dead on impact with the Supremacy it was actually the experimental shield technology they were using which caused the beautiful blue light and the destruction caused by it.

TraustiGeir because ftl drives are frigin expensive. Perhaps the empire could have used them at rare occasions but the rebellion has just not the resources for that. And she ramed a battleship into it not just some random ass fighter or so. And having a field full of hyper accelerated Schrapnell in space is not pleasant to randomly encounter.
