It's shame, because the data was all there for them already. Black folks and females are NOT the main purchasers of Star Wars merchandise. It makes all the sense in the world for the black characters and females to be sitting on the shelves. It's no different from the eighties if you can remember the peg-warmers then.

In the Rey timeline, there are no Jedi. Grogu has to be dead. There are no Mandalorians. No sign of Mandalore restored, no darksaber. No Thrawn. No Moff Gideon, no death troopers. Nothng. Rey is "every Jedi ever" and that's it. Rey's timeline is the death of Star Wars. It wipes out the galaxy and replaces it with zero.

Another problem Disney has with Star Wars products is that outside of the toy aisle, LITERALLY everything Star Wars is Baby Yoda. At Target we have a BY Chia pet. All T-shirts, both children and adults, are about BY. In party supplies, the plates, napkins, wrapping paper, stickers, and tablecloths are all about BY. There is a BY toothbrush and toothpaste. The bedsheets all feature BY, along with BY cuddle pillows. There are no other characters to be found, although we may get a Mandalorian helmet here and there. It is borderline ridiculous. Where are the Luke, Leia, and Vader themed products? Disney spent 4 billion dollars to turn Star Wars into a baby franchise.

Power Rangers is huge with adult collectors, but the quality control is the absolute worst I've ever seen from any toy line. Missing pieces, paint mishaps, lately figures have been falling apart right out if the box. If they could get a handle on that we'd be doing fine.

I legit have no idea who DJ is. I used to to feel bad for Hasbro being stuck with this dead license, but then they tried to steal people's content for D&D and laugh at them burning.

You know, I have watched several of these videos and I noticed that TMNT toys are almost never shown and when they are, people seem to be buying them. The reason why I bring this up is because TMNT like Marvel and Star Wars was gobbled up by a huge multimedia conglomerate which is Viacom in this case. While they have made some missteps with the TMNT franchise(if you wanna call the 2014 and 2016 film missteps), Viacom seems to have gotten good returns on the franchise. For example, many recent Marvel games over the past few years have been huge flops while Shredder's Revenge sold a million copies in a week. My point to all this is how TMNT and Disney's franchises have been treated in recent years. The Turtles aren't being gender swapped, popular legacy characters aren't getting pushed to the side in favor of less popular newcomers, political ideology is not being shoved down our throats. While with Disney the polar opposite is happening and it's turning off their fans who aren't buying merchandise based on IPs that are going out of their way to turn off the fan base. Disney bought some of the most popular franchises on Earth and due to a combination of bad decisions have somehow turned franchises that print money into stuff that people don't want if it's free. Maybe this is a lesson to be learned.

Stopped in an outlet store and it had 2 cases worth of carbonized shoretroopers at 50% off. And that's still above what collectors are willing to pay on the secondary market.

I used to work in a toy shop and I am not kidding about this, for about six months after Rise of Skywalker first released in cinema's; I saw this older man come in and search the SW toys for a C-3PO figure every week and would loudly complain because he couldn't find one, we stocked the funko pop of the droid but with the red eyes and he would go off on how C-3PO doesn't have red eyes nor a red arm, but we'd tell him that's how he appears in the most recent film but he only wanted a classic original trilogy figure.

Long gone are the days when a star wars figure in its unopened package was a hot commodity... heck I still get excited when I see something in box from the power of the force or Revenge of the Sith still in package... even when it is something like a mustafar sentry droid or an nameless rebel soldier... Times are different but Disney corp surely worked tirelessly to remove all the value the star wars brand had

The fact is, children don't play with action figures anymore. Most kids play video games these days, instead of toys. That's why they are not selling.

I have to wonder how much of this is due to brand damage to Star Wars due to TLJ and onward, and how much of it is due to the action figure market overall shrinking. I get the impression (though haven't researched) that the collector market is not growing.

How can there be new collectors with whom to grow the market, when there's nothing worth collecting? Rey, Finn, Poe, and Kylo will NOT arouse feelings of nostalgia, except in the case of masochists who enjoy being kicked in the groin.

Just like movies aren't supposed to be fun anymore and, instead, carry a message of diversity and inclusion, so goes it with the toy industry. Gotta be politically correct, have more diverse representation and ensure that the line appeals just as much to little girls as it does to little boys. And this amazing strategy gives us toys no one wants and a toy industry on the verge of collapse. Well done.
@Veylon
@Veylon Жыл бұрын
If they actually had that message, it'd be fine. Star Wars had that message from the beginning. The Empire is all about conformity and obedience, after all. The new movies abandoned that message. They aren't genuinely diverse.

I bought some vintage style Star Wars figures recently, (only a stormtrooper, vader and luke, the ones that come in a wax paper) as decorations next to my TV, and whats funny is that the only figures people are buying are the classic characters. My local Walmart was almost sold out of the vintage style Darth Vader and Luke figures, fully sold out of Anankin, Leia and Maul figures and the only ones that were available in literal HOARDS were Grogu, the mandolorian, generic black vader lady etc I mean basically every Disney star wars figure was untouched. It just goes to show that the fan base has never left the original 6 movies and that Disney royally fucked up the series and added nothing the fan base wants.

Said it before, you tell how successful a franchise is by the merchandise they sell, toys, action figures, t-shirts, hats, bed sheets, current franchises sell little cause people don't buy stuff from IPs they don't like. Even the OG Star Wars made billions more off merchandise than all gross ticket sales from all 3 movies combined.

15 or so years ago I bought a something that I didn't really remember. It was a loose Tie Bomber with everything with it in a zip lock bag at a yard sale. I think that's my most prized SW possession besides the Legacy edition Falcon in the box and my original X wing belt buckle I got for Christmas. I still wear it everyday. It's priceless to me. My dad never cared what I liked but he bought me that for some reason. 1977 Lucas film version. Something that's worth nothing and I'd have to be killed to get it off my belt.

I'm pretty sure my local Walmart just throws stuff away. I remember we had a big pile of star wars stuff in clearance in late 2018 but then it was all gone by the end of the year. Not one by one gradually trickling down. Just the whole pile. Gone. The shelf space was worth more than the toys at that point.
