I played the pipes for my friend's wedding a few years back. The bride asked if I could play this (it turns out I could), so we surprised the groom (huge Star Wars nerd) by using it as the recessional march. He was very pleased!

People at my high school did this all the time. Upland High School "Highlanders / Scots" of Upland, California. We had a full bagpipe regiment for our marching band. Many students wore kilts, including myself, on Fridays, school pride days and traditional Scottish holidays like St Andrews Day. We'd also have Ceilidh dances where kilts were mandatory dress.

@@joshyboy1983 Yes, my school taught Spanish, French, German, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Welsh, and Scots / Irish Gaelic. There might have been some other languages too. They taught basic Scots Gaelic (reading, alphabet, pronunciation and basic words) in all homeroom classes so that we could read and understand some of the signs and images around the campus.

I pulled a similar stunt in university dorms playing Highland Cathedral. Got shouted at and all bagpipes explicitly banned from the dorms, but no lasting trouble. You should get private lessons for it. Not should, it's you have to. Without someone else to teach you bagpipes are impossible. You also need to start out on practice chanter otherwise your wasting time.

If you were trying someone else's pipes, they might've been using a really hard chanter reed, which makes it more difficult. I had to use a very soft/easy reed and cork the drones when I first started on the big pipes... It took about a month of daily practice ("exercise") to get strong enough to make it through a set with no corks. Keep trying, it takes time.
