They were made aware of succes of the game after set 1 and 2 have shipped. Straight update from Jim at the Asmodee uk event at uk gaming expo. Shortages will be resolved for set 3 onward. So no panic.

Often there are Logistical wheels that can’t be stopped, postponing would require warehousing stock and every set would sit depleting in value due to storage costs all down the production line. The train has left the station, hopefully it stops and drops well enough to weather its own success

I will never understand why these StarWars card games are created and then pretty much abandoned. I truly enjoyed Star Wars Destiny, and my wife and I still play it. All of these games going digital would be such a good plan. Star Wars just can't catch a break lately...

It's not that there's less stock than set 1. It's that there's the same amount for set 1 and more stores interested. The issue is, they printed 3x what they did for destiny thinking it would be enough for this, it wasn't. It wasn't by a factor of 2 or 3. And set 2 was at print when set 1 released, so they couldn't increase the initial run for set 2 either. It was already too late. Exact same thing happened to lorcana at launch. The real tell will be set 3. That's when they will have had time to adjust their print run. The problem with postponing the launch is warehousing costs. It costs a ton of money to warehouse product. That's why Armada could never get stock, they would print the minimum so they wouldn't have to warehouse it.

Exactly, many people don't realize that printing for set 2 started before set 1 released. You can only make so much adjustment in that time frame. People also need to remember that these printers aren't only printing one game. Most of these printers are the same printers being used by Magic and YuGiOh and many other card games. it's not as simple as just telling the printer to printer more. There is a significant increase in boxes for Set 2. Can't tell you what that is for various reasons but it is quite a bit more. But demand is higher. No one wanted to take a risk on set 1 and then it got hot and boxes got gobbled up. A several month estimated supply lasted weeks.

I was able to buy a box at my local store for 150.00 last Saturday of set 1. At the end of the day the speculators flipping online are the ones that hurt the supply. There are plenty of LGS that did the right thing and are using boxes for prize support and not flipping it online.

They have said the first set will be getting re-printed. Suffering for success I guess! Always a good sign when they've sold out (what would have been generous starting estimates as well). Prices will come down! :)

What's reasonable to you? Singles for 80% of set 1 are inexpensive save a few legendaries. You can get full c/u playsets (excluding the junk junk junk ones) for less than $30 Most rares are less than $3. With 90% being under $12.

TCGplayer has all sorts of stock for singles. Prices have levelled out pretty decently. The only people out of luck are drafters and people who want to crack packs.

We had a large group that played SWU every Thurs and Saturday... we finally are taking a break until the next set comes out... However, everyone is nervous about product, if we can't get our hands on product in July, we will probably move on to something else. Our FLGS has had no info on what they are receiving either.

I LOVE the game, but... Preordered one box for first set and thought I'd do drafts and sealed to round out my collection for deck building before doing constructed play Then nobody was doing sealed because nobody had product. Now it makes no sense for me to play constructed, because I don't have full decks! Buying singles is a mess because everything is so overpriced (because there's no product available) Now I'm looking at set 2 cards that are not blowing me away wondering..."should I even continue with this?" Ffg - we just want cards! Help us out!

the speed at which pre orders are selling out means that demand is way too high for the normal rate of distribution. i suspect it will take another year before this stabilizes or dies. I'm reminded of the distribution woes for Magic. Back in 1994 we were only allowed 3 boosters of The Dark per customer. Magic did stabilize and went on a great run afterwards but I'm not convinced FFG/ Asmodee can manage it.

No regrets on avoiding this headache from the beginning. FFG's inability to ever stock a product leads to the inevitable death of that product. I wish they could learn just once from this mistake. At this point it just seems willful. FFG and Asmodee particularly, are both just completely mismanaged companies. This CCG is really the only money making Star Wars license they have going, the other Star Wars lines are dead or dying off and if this mismanagement continues, I'm sure Disney will just pull the plug.

Postpone or even if they could control the booster boxes for stores that play draft events and I know this is difficult . But at least it help keep players interested only way to get cards was through draft and constructed events .

Totally with you on this. Was totally bummed that Asmodee cancelled my pre-order. My LGS said there shouldn't be a problem filling and they're very well linked to FFG, but I'm still limited to two boxes. If they're wrong and have to cancel, I'm out. Like you, I'm not going to work for it by checking stores every day in case this "releasing in waves" thing is true, nor am I playing for four hours on a Friday night to "win" a pack or two as my only means of acquiring product. And like you, I'd rather they have an official online client. I'd have doubled my SOR spend if they did. Also think delays would be better than keeping to this planned/aggressive timeline.

The issue was that they were not expecting such a positive response. Set 2 was already in the works by the time it was released and had it's success. The slow release for set 2 is because they want to make sure that all OP stores have stock for events to be held. Stores that placed up pre orders have jumped in too quickly and before they were confirmed how many were getting. Suppliers and retailers have already been told that Set 3 coming out around October has had a very big increase in stock and available to all.

This just gives me the feeling of vindication, as I had my doubts early on - and I held off from buying into the game. I’m one of FFG’s customers that has been burned time and again by their products and actions. Destiny was one of my biggest investments and such a huge burn. 🔥 Good luck to my friends who jumped into this game early. I hope this has a happy ending for you guys.

I was so keen on this game. Went out got a full set and then.... no one could play at my locals because there was no stock. So our group of barely 10 went to 6 and now they have all left to go play Lorecana because they were told there was no stock coming for the next set. Our local was only allowed to have 10boxs. So we've all left the game as it's dead before it got started

If the allocation happens, that would be pretty sad considering they have impacted Marvel Champions printing to print more SWU. I avoided SWU because of the Destiny debacle. I hope FFG do not prove me right here.

I get not wanting to travel all around town in search for packs and all that jazz - but it does help increase exposure to plenty of other FLGSs. I sometimes do get upset that it’s hard to find packs but I’m okay with it. It’s my only TCG so I find it worth my money to travel to more stores in search for packs. I’m also very fortunate to be able to travel between cities in my area and have access to multiple stores that are holding stock!

If this is true, then news like this kills my interest in the game. I can understand getting caught by surprise on the first set, but this is just bad. It's just difficult for me to understand how you under-produce when you know what your preorders are.

So, speaking with people who know, this second set was starting print right around the time of the first set release. With the first set blowing expectations out of the water, the second set was also going to be underproduced since there wouldn't be time to increase the order. Set 3 is when the game should reach balance. Apparently the same thing happened with lorcana.

Yeah, I saw the same thing in Lorcana, and it didn't make much more sense to me then. If your first set blows all your expectations out of the water, rather than going forward with the plans that clearly will not meet customer demand, why wouldn't you reorganize your schedule? Why would you plan set 2 with so little wiggle room time-wise? FFG has a really bad track record on this kind of thing. They've even said as much. At some point, they have to start building some good will again. They had a printing window open. Reprint set 1 to meet the demand that they weren't able to meet. Push the other releases back so that they didn't frustrate the heck out of the players who didn't get enough set 1 and now are finding out that they might not even be able to get the new set.

If they released set 1 in March and then had no new product, at all, until November, what do you think that would do to the games sales and reputation? It would immediately be seen as the game that has releases every 9 months and people would stop caring. Here, they can at least say they have regular releases, they are actively supporting the game and it's performing well above expectations and that's why stock is low. Having no releases at all will hurt a game far more than selling out of releases

I've seen your other comments below, so I know you're in an area that is thriving and got enough product and you're speaking as someone whose belly is full...or at least more full than some of those who are starving so to speak. When I was talking about wiggle room, originally, what I meant was giving themselves more time to be able to print more of set 2 so that they didn't look incompetent at meeting demand. I was suggesting reprinting set 1 as something to do with the booked slot at the factory. As soon as Set 1's numbers came in, they should have been looking to increase set 2 by any means necessary. I think it looks much worse to be cutting or cancelling preorders this close to release than it would have to say "hey, Set 2 needs to get pushed back a bit." But that's me.

We just have a lot of stores in the metro area, so there's a high concentration of people who got their hands on that limited product at launch and they have mostly stayed active with the game even if they only get the OP packs for attending weekly play

This is so sad to hear. I was one of those that was on the fence because of art style, and wanted to wait for popularity. I saw it get popular at my local store, but if there’s stock problems, it’s a non-starter for me. I can’t even get starter decks at my store! Might be a lost cause to play longterm.

these are all very valid concerns. i do think that asmodee and FFG are trying to counter the scalpers and investors and still figuring things out. they got a card game right for once so i want everyone to play the game but i don't want people tro pay throught the nose. if people could buy unlimited, pun intended, stock for brick and mortar stores then about 10% of customers would hoard everything. keep up the great videos and bat reps. they really help me get through some rougher days that are ongoing

If you have been playing FFG games for the past 5 years you know that supply chain has been their weakest area as a company. Add in that this is a TCG where value is implied by supply / demand and I doubt they will be able to keep up. I smell a Destiny 2.0 where there isn't enough product to support the players and the game loses steam after a couple of years. Be careful when buying into it

The problems that you are describing seem to fall into two categories: A) "I don't like CCGs and this game is acting like a CCG" and B) "I heard from someone who heard from someone that 'fact' 1 or 'fact' 2 is what is happening". I understand being frustrated that you cannot just go out and buy all of the packs that you want. I love Limited play (which I was reminded of by being able to play in a Draft two days ago from a shop that is using their monthly allotment for that purpose instead of selling it for 200% of MSRP). The fact is that FFG printed more of Set 1 for this game than they did for the entire first year of Destiny combined. A lot of stores took a wait and see approach to Unlimited, and those stores are not getting as much of the second set as the shops that went all in on it from the beginning. I had no trouble buying as much SWU as I wanted upon release, and playing in a TON of Pre-Releases and Drafts because I found stores that carried the game from the start. The supply issues only began when the game exceeded everyone's expectations, and sold out because of the new players and "speculators" that jumped on. Which is great because more players is a good thing. For this new set, FFG has announced that they are allocating the product from the beginning and releasing it in waves to try and get the most product possible into the hands of the local game stores. That is the same reason why they cut back so hard on pre-orders through their own site. They are pushing product to the LGS instead of selling as much directly through their webstore. That is something that should be applauded in my opinion. I feel like a lot of people are still angry at FFG (or Asmodee) for some perceived slight from their other games (like X-Wing or Armada, both of which FFG no longer controls), so are just waiting for any small thing to ding them over. Had they somehow printed too much, everyone would be saying the game is dead because "I'm able to go into any store and buy product, and if this game was good then I couldn't do that." There are legitimate criticisms of Star Wars: Unlimited (and FFG). This is not one of them as I believe that they are doing very well with communicating what is happening, and with trying what they can to course correct while waiting for reprints and the first set they could realistically increase the initial print run on. We are obviously a little biased, but I wanted to try and put a little more information out there for context. As a long time X-Wing fan, I respect you as a creator. However, a lot of this video seems to be incorrect or rooted in "feels" and not facts. Thank you for bringing this issue up, though, because it's good to talk about it.

This video is absolutely rooted in feels. There's been a ton of canceled pre-orders. I've seen them all over my feed over the last week or so - but then with my store telling me their latest order was a fraction of the previous - it's got me concerned. Not gonna lie - it's a dark feeling for sure. Regardless of the info that FFG puts out - if people can't get stock again for set #2 - there may be FAR fewer interested players remaining, by the time reprints are available.

@@Crabbok Well sure. But what if people CAN get stock? I think it's a little early to be crying that the sky is falling for Star Wars: Unlimited. Based on the info that I have, it appears that Asmodee made a mistake and did one thing (put preorders up on their webstore), FFG had a different plan in mind. I'm sorry that your shop either didn't buy into the game from the very start, or has some other supply issue we aren't aware of. My main local store is not getting all of the product they can sell (nobody is), but they are getting a huge chunk of it. If it means that on launch I can only get 8 boxes instead of the 12 I want, then that's ok. Releasing the product in waves should allow stores to run Draft events for the entire cycle, have packs for prizes on Constructed play, and even sell some (at MSRP). We have several stores locally that supported the game from Day 1, and are getting a relatively healthy amount of stock. Until the set actually comes out, all we have are anecdotes from our local stores about who is getting what amount of product. We can all post videos with any amount of conjecture, but we'll just have to wait and see how poorly, or how well, it goes.

Plus their collation in the boosters is terrible. 4 displays and zero choppers or ELCs. I have had many, many boosters that were literal repeats of the previous booster. Printing as" much as possible" is extremely risky, overprinting and not selling is a perfect recipe for bankruptcy. The ideal is to get the exact right amount, but It's far less risky to be conservative and underprint rather than overprint. Turns out, predicting demand for a new TCG is extremely difficult and that's why companies get it wrong on a regular basis. With Spark of Rebellion FFG did a decent job compared to most other games (Lorcana Cough...cough) Unfortunately the set 2 was already printed when they saw the crazy demand for set 1, so it was too late to adjust. Now that they know the demand for the game they should print the right amounts from set 3 onward. Unfortunately factory schedules are not flexible at all and you cannot print stuff in an emergency, you have to wait your turn which can take months. In this case, they had to wait almost a year since next SOR print is scheduled for the holidays. The good news is that the meta is very diverse and you can work your way around having certain expensive staples and still have a competitive deck.

Not near me. We just had about 2 dozen store showdowns in range of me and almost all were sold out. One store sold out a 64 seat event. So interest is there. The problem with delaying, is losing interest. Set 1 reprint won't be here until November. And one has to assume a set 2 reprint will come after that given that their set 2 print run was already going when set 1 dropped. It's not that FFG is mismanaging the game. It's that the game has exceeded their expectations on a level that logistics can't fix

I don't understand how you're saying that you can't get product? You can pre-order from almost any hobby store and you can be guaranteed starter decks and at least one box which is a lot of packs. Also the new set doesn't throw away the spark of the rebellion cards. It's not like you have to replace every card in your deck with a new set of cards. It builds on the old stuff. It adds to the old stuff I'm sure with the new starter deck there are ways to build completely new decks and have no cards from Spark of the rebellion but I've seen them play the previews where they only switch out some cards and that looks fun too

If stores are being told that their preorders are cut or cancelled, then no I won't be able to get a guaranteed starter deck and at least one box of packs. Because by the time I find out that my store isn't going to get what they expected, it may be too late to order from another store who are logically going to prioritize their regulars. Yes, I can continue to build decks with just Set 1. But am I on a level playing field with people who scored boxes of Set 2? The meta evolves with every new set. And I'm speaking as someone who doesn't even play competitively. For those people who do, they need way more than one box. Even as a casual, it's nice to be able to build the deck that I want, rather than have to use cards regardless of whether they fit my strategy because that's all I have.

That's just it - we aren't being guaranteed a box. Best I've gotten is a solid "Maybe". I have a preorder in but was advised that it's not certain. It's more of a "Hope for the best" situation. A lot of others are in the same boat.

Totally not my experience. My local store is getting 100 boxes day 1 of set 2, same as what they got for set 1. That being said, I found some online for $80 a box and got 3. FFG even did a live stream where they said they produced more of set 1 than they did of ALL of destiny’s sets combined and it still wasn’t enough. I think you might want to research a little bit more before posting a video like this. Some of your facts were correct but FFG has said a lot about this that you didn’t cover here

Put me in the camp of one that likes the game, wants to play the game, but I don’t want to be forced to buy 2-3 boxes at pre-order just to get the cards I need to play. The chase cards just encourage buying more than you need contributing to the shortage. I’m likely out for good at this point

A dedicated digital app should have better functionality - like opening boosters, hosting tournaments, do drafts and pre-release events etc.
