‘Star Wars’ Villain Adam Driver Hopes Fans Are Happy With Kylo Ren’s Fate | TODAY

In this week’s Sunday Sitdown, actor Adam Driver remains mostly tight-lipped about the upcoming “Star Wars” installment, but the “Logan Lucky” star tells Willie Geist he hopes fans are happy with what happens to his dark character, Kylo Ren. Driver, who spent time with the Marines after Sept. 11, also discusses how he felt like he’d failed as an actor before ultimately getting his breakout role in the HBO series “Girls.”

It's really sad how much hate this actor and his characters gets and how many people don't even understand the point of him. He is the embodiment of light and dark, which is why he struggles so much. He isn't the badass Sith Lord villain that people expected. He's a multi-layered character with actual feelings, which is why he so compelling imo. And Adam Driver is an incredible actor.

Adam Driver/Kylo Ren is by far the most fascinating thing about the new Star Wars trilogy. I guess you could say because he is a villain and that villains tend to be most interesting. I am curious about Rey and Finns continuing adventures but Kylo I feel will be the straw the breaks the back of the series. Also, please let him look like Adam Driver in future movies and not shave his goatee off he looks a lot more menacing that way xD.

totally! TFA focused mainly on Rey's story, TLJ split their plots more or less equally, now IX can show Kylo's story. At general it would be interesting to see more of the dark side's perspective, the reasons behind their actions. As Adam mentions in alot of interviews, Kylo doesnt see himself as a villain, he thinks what he is doing is the right thing For all we know, the republic could have been incredibly corrupt as well

I just love how you can connect to him and feel what the character is feeling throughout the movie without sayin anything. Kylo Ren, or as I also call him, Ben (Skywalker) Solo, is my favorite character in this new trilogy. He's the person I feel I can most connect and relate to. Hopefully Han succeeds in ultimately helping to save his son, even though he had to die to achieve it.

Completely agreed! I just love how people complain that he's not like Darth Vader, aka a complete badass Sith Lord, and yet they also complain that TFA was too similar compared to ANH (and I agree with that part - I hope TLJ isn't a rehash of ESB). I bet that if Kylo Ren was a rehash of Darth Vader, people would STILL complain, and probably even more so since the parallel between ANH and TFA would be even stronger. Kylo Ren is a unique character compared to Darth Vader. Honestly, in the space of ONE MOVIE, I found him to be a lot more compelling than Darth Vader in ANH. Now, beware I'm only comparing both villains' FIRST MOVIES for fair comparison. We'll see over the course of the trilogy how Kylo evolves, but so far, I believe that Ben Solo is a character that has great potential. To me, he feels "real". He has depth of character, he has struggles (just like how the entire character of Darth Vader is by the time we know the prequels, understand his backstory. But as I said, I'm comparing only their first movie appearance so that doesn't count). That's one of the issues I have with Rey to be honest, since like everybody has already said, she's WAY TOO QUICK at learning how to use the Force, and seems to achieve things way too easily. This doesn't mean she doesn't have an interesting story to tell though, if we learn more about her backstory (such as her life on Jakku for instance). Hopefully, TLJ will give her justice, since I feel her character does have potential, too.

My hope is Rey is a Kenobi. Wouldn't it be great if she brought Ren back to the light. Think about it. In the force back vision Rey holds Anakin's lightsaber and sees Kylo. In that same vision they removed from the scene. Ren holds Kenobi's lightsaber. He is standing there in a daze. What if Ren is seeing Rey as he touches Obi-Wan's lightsaber. There has never been a Kenobi not featured in the trilogy sagas. Rey has to be a Kenobi. At least I pray she is. Would be awesome.

Jonny Cat he's a wing brat. Darth Vader had reasons for turning to the dark side. Count Dooku aka Darth Tyrannus had a reason for turning to the dark side. Darth Sidious turned to the dark side for interesting reasons. In episode 7 they set Kylo up as a whiny brat who felt neglected by his parents. He needs more characterization

The people who disliked TFA is usually related to the similarities it has with A New Hope and the main character Rey being exceptional at everything. I never felt like it was because of Kylo Ren. It seemed like the only complaint with him was that he lost to Rey.

The problem with TFA is that from a story building perspective it was bland. There were no new elements, nothing original. It even lacked what made Star Wars good. There was very little of that memorable banter, there was only one brand spanking new fighter/small ship, and it was destroyed within 3 seconds. The movie took no risks in the way it was done. Nothing. Not even Han Solo's death was original, as he already was 'killed' in The Empire Strikes Back. He was just brought back in the next movie. What makes Star Wars good that TFA missed? Banter - Not in TFA New Ships - Not in TFA Good Factions with deep ideals - Not in TFA Risks in the story - Not in TFA Droids - Not enough in TFA Graceful Lightsaber fights - Not in TFA A main character that is actually relevant to the story, and without them there would have been major impacts - Not in TFA. Villains that wow you - Not in TFA and more that I won't go into.

Kilo Ren is the only character written very well. The others are written on a continuum between poorly and good enough, but Ren is a masterpiece. Also very well acted. I saw something else about this Driver guy and...mh...promising actor

TheGameLord56 Vader was an instant hit, as we're all the characters in "Star Wars". Little kids that ran away from a picture with Santa, screaming, would just stare and be fascinated by Vader and want to touch him. My little brother was one of those kinds of kids. We actually saw him (the original film costumes went on tour btw), along with C-3PO and others on the "Toys R Us" tour. It was a great time to be a 4 year old.
