This fan film was excellent! So well made and it really deserved a longer discussion than we gave it. The Super Star Destroyer rising from beneath the cityscape of Coruscant was not only an epic spectacle but a badass homage to the work of Michael Stackpole, author of the X-Wing novels. Bravo NobleEngine, this was freaking cool!

I was gonna say… the Lusankya was the sister ship to Vaders Executor. Palpatine hid it under Coruscant and masked the cost of its construction with the Death Star II costs.

That's not the only reference to Stackpole! The rebel fighter squadron is designated Wraith, and the ending dialogue mentions Rogue Squadron's covert ground mission to bring down Coruscant's shield in the second X-Wing novel.

The first time they mentioned an ‘unknown power signature’ I hoped this would turn out a certain way, and it did. They did it. The absolute mad lads did it.

What I like about this animation is that it combines legends and canon so both sides can get what they want in it

Hard to believe there are people that prefer cannon over EU, only ever in the KZbin comments do I see cannon supporters.

@@CommanderOfRussia1 As I whole, I currently like where canon is going over the EU. The EU had some amazing moments, some not so amazing. Like canon.

@@CommanderOfRussia1 The Fandom Menace is very vocal, but that doesn't make them the majority. There are a load of people that prefer canon, I know that from first-hand experience as I am careful with what communities I get involved in. I love both but canon has a lot more consistency to it and doesn't go over-the-top with much. In my opinion, canon is a LOT closer to the original vision of George Lucas than Legends was, at least in the post-ROTJ stuff (which gets quite goofy in some spots, such as Dark Empire and the Vong storyline). That said, I hope we get a story set in the distant future like the Legacy comics, and I still consider the Old Republic content to be canon until they create new stories set during that time. For me, it diverges from canon after Bane and leads to the High Republic era.

@@jakobfel2 I say that mainly because of the Old Republic and such, I love pre Ruusan Reformation SW. Legends after Endor and such get very wonky I agree there, but they're missing out on some amazing characters that existed before the Skywalkers.

@@CommanderOfRussia1 This. I really hope that canon Old Republic material doesn't deviate TOO far from what we already have; I think the best Star Wars Legends material is definitely in that era.

4:09 Yeah...the name LUSANKYA was a name whispered with TERROR amongst the Rebels in the Legends. The sister ship to Vader's EXECUTOR, the LUSANKYA was Imperial Intelligence Director Ysanne "Iceheart" Isard flagship. It was to Isard what Vader's Castle on Mustafar was: it was where high ranking Rebels would be taken & interrogated, then at times BROKEN into "Manchurian Candidate" like sleeper agents who would act as assassins at a moments notice. This film seems to depict the fall of Coruscant as seen in the Legends book X-WING: THE KRYTOS TRAP by Michael Stockpole. If either of you gentlemen have Audible, I HIGHLY recommend it! It's part of the ESSENTIAL STAR WARS LEGENDS COLLECTION!!!

fun fact: "Lusankya" was a secret prison people knew about but didn't know where it was. It being a SSD under Coruscant was a plot twist. When it took off, one of the main characters in the book had just escaped from it. This video plays with the timeline a little, as the breakthrough and takeoff didn't happen until after the battle. Tycho was on trial for killing Corran while Corran was in Lusankya Prison escaping. Other fun fact: The gravity of the ship was turned upside down so that anyone trying to escape would just be going deeper into the prison. Corran had an epiphany and worked his way down instead of up. A gravity-switch hallway separated the old Jedi temple from the ship.

It would be awesome if they made the SSD Lusankya canon. Seeing an Executor-class power out of Coruscant with Disneys budget would be badass.

If the Ravager is Canon, then the Lusankya has a high potential to be Canon as well. Because in Canon it does say the New Republic captures 3 Executor Class SSDs.

I have a special place in my heart for the X-Wing novels, and Rogue and Wraith Squadrons, so this fanfilm was great. Highly recommend reading the books when you can. They're amazing, heartbreaking, and a real rollercoaster of post-movie warfighting, espionage and found family.

Having only just discovered the X-Wing books this year, I lost my damn mind when I heard them say ship ID Lusankya. I love that there can be so many points of view of the same battle. This was an awesome fan film. I always love watching y'all react to what the community makes.

This is simply one of the best animated fan films I have ever seen. I love that it is set during the second Battle Of Coruscant. And I love that it is all one shot. The start of the film when it was relatively peaceful in the clouds then shows a large battle reminded me a lot of the ROTS open. When the 2 fighters were flying through the streets with the AOTC music playing I got a lot of nostalgia.

And it was done by the one guy, Chris Parks.. He did deepfakes on the character faces to get them looking so good. The faces are of himself and his mate.

When I Saw the SSD Lusankya rising up from the ground it blew my mind. It's just phenomenal, this the greatest fan made movie i've seen from Star Wars, it's like a combination of X-Wing Series and Star Wars Squadron

So many movies can be made, which would totally malke sense. They are given so many great stories. in comics and alike, books, etc. The first movies were jedi vs sith movies, but things like the mandalorian show how much is possible. I also like Obi Wan a lot, despite the hate it is getting. The trouble I have is that they immediately jump into major storylines, and even disrespect or dance around the existing canon. Why can't Disney just make movies, shorts, anything similar to this. This was awesome!

It's funny you mentioned locking and unlocking the S-foils on X-Wing when you want to, the original 1993 game you could. You had to unlock them to be able to shoot lasers, but you could still fly around like that. I think when you engaged Hyperspace, they automatically folded.

Don’t want to be presumptuous but it’s clear you might not have read the x-wing series ! This is a great injustice to yourself as you were missing a lot of cool details about this ! Plus it’s a fantastic series . If you aren’t a big book reader, they do have the first four on audible (unabridged) and narrated by the excellent Marc Thompson. They have an older narrated series but they are abridged and condensed into 3 hours for each book . They leave so much out it’s not even telling the real story . Don’t get those ! Highly recommend reading or listening to that series . You won’t regret it !

This is only about five minutes long and it's far better than what the sequels were imagine if we saw this in the episode seven even if it was a flashback or something

Love how a fan can make something more interesting than anything Disney has put out. 😂

I know this is quite old considering it was a reaction a year ago, but one detail I really enjoyed which is true to a lot of actual dog fights is that they take snap shots but miss quite often. It isn't like the garbage dump of the latest trilogy (sorry Disney, but that's how I see it) where Poe keeps getting one-shot kills without missing multiple times in a row and that just felt so incredibly...fake to me. Flying aircraft and spacecraft is still a huge disconnect from your hands and feet to the controls of the actual craft, so there will be quite a few over-corrections and slight twitches you'd need to make to properly line up a shot. These latest films it feels just like an aimbot that as soon as the craft is in the crosshairs it fires to make the automatic hit, and claim it's the skill of the pilot without a miss. In this fan film, they take several shots to get a good hit and sometimes they're lucky, sometimes they're not, and I absolutely appreciate that aspect where both sides are fighting for their lives, and doing whatever they can to avoid getting hit. Even while in pursuit of a bogey, they are still having to correct up the line to take their shot and Red 2 was actually hit a few times. And when trying to take the shot is when they're most vulnerable because the wingman behind is trying to take out the pursuer. And still missing. Red 2 boosting his weapon power by switching power to lasers was what really took his shields down to the TIE's wingman behind and he immediately began going evasive for HIS wingman to take out the TIEs. It felt so incredibly natural and accurate.
