Extremely hot take because I also hate Palpatine's return in the Sequel Trilogy: it didn't ruin Anakin's redemption. Saving Luke (and therefore the Jedi Order) was Anakin's redemption, not killing a guy named Sheev. Though tbh I never felt Anakin's redemption was truly earned either way because saving Luke and killing one guy in no way makes up for all the genocides and child-murders he committed. Palpatine's return was still dumb though for so many other reasons. Not quite as dumb as it was in Legends imo but still very dumb. When I heard Palpatine's laugh in the first trailer for TROS I thought they were introducing Sith ghosts to Canon which would have opened up so many new interesting story ideas, but alas. T'was shite.
