This is a potential feature that I wouldn't count on seeing for a very long time. They have major issues with only a dozen players in small ships all in the same area right now. Honestly they shouldn't have even hyped this possibility until much later down the road after they have proven their engine and server tech can handle a lot of players and smaller ships all in the same area first.

@@KawaiiSoulB42 to be fair doing it as teleporting stations is the only way that made sense. really big ships that move normally and can fast travel would be too much lag and op, smaller ships that can fast travel without gates would defeat the purpose of the Warp gates, and without some form means to get a lot of material and equipment to far off locations you wouldn't be able to build the gates reasonably in the first place. Add Siege mechanics to that, which mainly seem to be about making sure the defenders have a reasonable chance to prepare...

I find one issue with it. That is if two companies or small factions are at war, they won't be able to attack the other factions stations unless a capital ship is present meaning the smaller groups won't be able to destroy an enemies main base or main target in a war.

I had given up my hopes of having a mobile base because of the issues the game had with running the centurio, but I am so happy to know that you have found a workaround for this as well. I am disappointed that they are not able to move regularly, as this would make sense for kilometer long ships, but I had hoped that capital ships below a certain size could do this, I hope that this can change for more realistic combat for smaller capital ships, that are more "ship" than mobile base.

looks pretty interesting! Could be fun having a mobile factory churning out ships to support an offensive. Having said that, I think there needs to be some safeguards against rapidly converting between military and civilian ships to get around the charge times. And also against jumping a civilian "factory" ship just outside enemy safezones (ie placing them before a war starts to get around the no fast travel to a warzone), which would be invulnerable, but able to support the attacking fleet, and provide a safe haven for them.

I'm personally expecting a lot of pretty unsmooth fun on release, based on how they've progressed. For example, I doubt they'll ever get the rubber banding out of ship-vs-ship combat without greatly slowing down changes in direction. (Which would turn fighter to fighter combat into a slow slug fest.) Capital ships and station siegeing will also come very short or at release and probably have quite a few hiccups. I can imagine a huge attack fleet on day 10 breaking the whole system. I'm still going to buy the game as soon as it comes out. After all, something can both be both broken in some places and a lot of fun at the same time.

I also hope there is content avaialble in which will last over time and as long as they constantly update the game and have an active community I think it will be good fun.

There would be two changes I would make Speed up the recharge time for a jump, atleast on a small capital ship. Allow them to be moved around so a retreat against a clear, losing battle is still somewhat possible

I suggest having a fuel or currency for a capital ship safe zone. as it would force a parent faction to think smarter and be more strategic with there assets and give more tactics for an enemy faction to work around the ship.

Really like the content of the update, not sure how I feel about the long wait times for jumps, like if you're ambushed by another players capital ship, you're a sitting duck for literal days. Perhaps they could implement an emergency jump function that would be dangerous and has a high chance of crippling your ship in some way if your desperate enough.

As I understand, Civilian Capital Ships are invulnerable. Only Military Capital Ships can be ambushed, so you want its location to stay secret. An emergency jump function would ruin the gameplay for ambushers. Don't you think finding the location of a foe capital ship is hard enough ?

@@Ynoita I was thinking the capital ships would have a warm up for it like the video suggests. But it would be maybe 3 to 5 minutes or more, depending if a skilled fighter can take out a capital ship in that time. If the ship being ambushed has high maneuverability, it could try to dodge until it can jump. But the tradeoff is you seriously fuck up your ship when you hit the emergency jump, like serious hull/system damage and possibly losing part of your cargo hold, maybe even leaving it behind so your ambusher still gets something out of the interaction and not just wasting ammo.

How about just haveing the ability to cripple the jump device, like haveing to have it outside you're ship and exposed because it has to shoot out a beam of protective layer around you're ship (which is why it takes time to charge) that protects youre ship from getting damaged while jumping, now it damages youre ship depending on how long you wait the less damage you're ship takes but if you see them already shooting at it, fuck it press the button and jump

If I understand this correctly, solo players get a mobile base that can protect them from ganking and being outnumbered when they're out minding their own business, and players looking for war can't just warp onto an enemy base and nuke it while everyone on that base has no warning and might all be offline because of the timer for making jumps.

Not to be a buzzkill, but the game in it's current state is not that great as you might imagine it to be. There's still a lot of work to be done, but I do have my hopes up somewhat. I've only played my alpha copy for several hours to test it out, as many features are unpolished and hard to get started with, and I just don't have the patience to spend days or weeks learning Starbase when I already spend most of my time studying things, so I tend to stick to games im already familiar with. More determined people are definitely having fun though, so it's possible if you're willing to put in the effort.

I realize what it is to be "locked out" of access to the game because I have experienced that for a very long time, and when I finally got it, my hype for the game had burnt out already from the amount of waiting to play it. I cannot give my copy to anyone because it's against the rules and could potentially permaban me from the game before it's even released. I don't know what "pay-for-play early bird nepotism" is supposed to mean, probably just words of frustration; but I did not pay frozenbyte a dime for access, even though I originally wanted to. All I've done was apply on the original survey when I was still super excited on the day it was made available, and waited probably over a year (can't recall the timeframe at this point) before getting my chance to play it at the end of 2020.

agreed, these need to fly regularly and not be invulnerable mobile safe zones. PvP is going to be a mess like this. If the size makes movement hard I think we can all be ok with a downgrade in that department, the comparison shot makes every thing currently possible no better than a row boat. But my biggest fear is PvP will become about parking one of these things near the enemy and just infinitely spawning in each others faces until resources are depleted.

Doubt they can make it mobile without destoying the game. A capital wil atleast have thousands if not tens of thousand of parts for in it. With the current technologie its impossible to make that move, get working independent moving weapons and proparly manage damage without any sort of lag or maybe even a server crash.

This makes me wonder if I can put train systems inside the capital sip for travel. I have no doubt people are going to go crazy with the size of these ships. If it takes an hour to transverse the length of the ship or longer, this could make it rough on the crew during combat. If I can do it, this will be amazing indeed.
