The BOAC VC-10 brings back memories of when I flew on it to Scotland in the early 70’s out of JFK. Thank you for sharing this!

Fantastic! Lots of memories! My first ride out of Idewuld was on a DC'-6. Had many rides in and out after the name change. Many 707s and 747s and a few 880s and one Caravelle.

Great footage! 12:36 - 13:06 is a very rare (then and now) Runway 4R departure. It works in good weather with 13L & 13R landings. Or in snow while 4L is being plowed. Very tough for noise impact, though. In a few places, the captions refer to the Pan American Terminal as the Worldport, but that name was not adopted until 1971, when the large four-level addition for 747s was completed. At 0:55 the caption says that Pan Am had jet bridges before the rest... Actually, United and American had them at their 1959-1960 terminals ahead of Pan Am's 1961 opening.

I grew up in Rockaway, across the bay. I can remember the 747's well. I want to say it began in 1970!

At 6:55 there's a Qantas 707 V-jet shown. That was probably operating QF's SYD-NAN (Nadi) - HNL-SFO-JFK-LHR route (or reverse.) Very cool video!

I was born in 77 and am from the Isle of Skye in Scotland. Closest I’ve ever come to see a tri-jet or a beautiful 4 engined beastie is when they’d pass 6 miles above my wee home on the way to or from the USA/Canada or Heathrow/Europe. I wish id had the chance to fly any classic airliner but I’ve missed out on even the MD11s and 747/4 and unless I can find a sugar daddy who likes pale, flabby Scottish women or I can sell a kidney, I doubt I’ll even get a go on the Lufthansa 747/8. All I can manage is a crappy wee Airbus A319 from Inverness to Bristol and they’re naff compared to the real classic ladies of the sky! Thank you for sharing this though - gives me something to drool over while I wait for a kidney buyer to come along!

I wish it would go back to being called Idlewood Airport or NY Int’l.

WHERE'S NATIONAL????
@Starboard76Күн бұрын
National (original scheme) appeared in Part 1. The only National (Sun King scheme) clip available was dominated by a 747 in the scene and that piece is better suited for up coming JFK:Enter the Jumbo
