On one hand, the resources being so impractically placed is annoying for the player. On the other, I think it does feel more immersive. It gives some maps some charm.

I can agree with the clumps of minerals vs. the arcs that are more common. I find it so painfully impractical to have a gas geyser a screen away on the high ground though - that's so far away D:

@@7thAce If you consider that one geyser provides 8 gas instead of 4, you can imagine that a geyser on its own is a separate base without minerals. It doesn't make the situation better, but it does calm down the gut-feeling.

@@7thAce I tend to just eat the 400 minerals and put an extra CC down. Helps that you need the extra ones if you want to nuke spam on those levels, or just have extra ComSats. And for Zerg, more macro Hatches is never bad either. ...Protoss is pretty screwed though since they get nothing extra out of it.

@shadowarchon7964 It's so scary in 1HP SC1! Because everything dies in one hit, you don't get attack notifications, so you can lose an entire base in 3 seconds without noticing.

​@@7thAce Oh yeah! 1HP is a different beast entirely! Less spread out bases, less chance of a single unit erasing half your base for sure. At least Terrans have the HP shield known as the bunker. Once you get to Zerg or Protoss, that's when things get even worse defensively. Honestly, it's probably better to just go pure offense all the time if you can. Except versus entrenched Terran is going to be hell with Zerg or Protoss.

Based on what you said in the last vod and this one, I actually really want to see you work on speed running this. Maybe in colab with grant for an archives series if he's interested. Even though it is a meme series, it would still be very interesting to see how things played out when taking it seriously and planning runs

"Can't believe Dropships need a Control Tower" Gameplay, yeah it sucks. But lore-wise? Makes sense. Dropships do require a bit more infrastructure since they are essentially cargo ships and they have to take off and land a lot...

While SC1 bases and starting worker counts suck for gameplay, I've always found them amazing for world building. It actually feels like natural resources that you have to find and extract. Broodwar wad a good balance, and SCII just feels so artificial and fake.

The trigger to respawn the heroes in certain locations requires it at times. Fun fact: The first brood war protoss mission spawns in a burrowed zergling to help rescue your zealots at the big fight in the bottom left.

@@7thAce Huh, shortly after I wrote my comment I was like "Huh, maybe it's to make the Rescue Trigger work..." since you need a unit to be nearby to the hero unit. But that too I guess, in that it makes a spawn point. Also didn't know about that last one. I guess that Zergling vanishes very quickly so one can't click on it?

Blizzard did a lot of rescues with spawning a unit nearby to ensure you got control. In their infinite wisdom they gave you burrowed zerglings, instead of the clearly superior burrowed devouring ones - which are more sanitary and burrow without tech. Because of this, all my respawn triggers that include a rescued color (teal for terran/protoss, red for zerg) spawn units to ensure you get control. I also to some extent put the respawn locations a little close to gas lines earlier in development, but partially changed my mind about that being a good idea down the line. Without hyper triggers, triggers are checked every 31 game frames, which is 2s on normal speed or ~1.5s on fastest. Plenty of time to catch or break, but odds are low of having actual impact. Hypers don't play nice with waits, and the campaigns are full of waits, so I didn't add hyper triggers.

It's how the hero respawns work. It disappears quickly.
