It probably evens out just for the fact that zerg nowadays HAVE to have 2 hatcheries up to produce well enough in the early game. But he threw away a lot just to make that happen for not a whole lot

I'm a little late to this replay, but Astrea's builds are real strategy as opposed to just building the standards and trying to outmicro the opponent. Love it, reminds me of Dark playing Zerg. While Astrea may not be as good as Dark, he's got that fluidity to his builds.

Lowko. I love your channel. You are the only youtuber that I make sure to watch because you love this game as much as I do. (ok ok probably more considering...). I know that usually regardless of who creates a technique, it gets named after who did it at a high level. The kimura shoulder lock, The Mir choke ( Yeah I train in BJJ and really I find the similarities between it and SC2 phenomenal. people talk about it being human chess but in chess you take turns and know everything that is goin on BJJ and SC2 don't have that luxury plus physical skill is just as important as planning and strategy). OK too many words but I say that to say I believe that it was you that talked about a double extractor trick into hatch in to pool into overlord so that you can have queens out for the reaper like years ago. I almost always do that now even against Toss cuz I hate it when my hatch gets blocked. Sure Erik is prolly better than you, but you are absolutly no slouch (You GM player you...) so I have always called it the Lowko Terran Trick. Just don't want you to sell yourself short. You mean so much to the game that you are literally in it! Strait Gangsta!

Macro is building as much army as possible as fast as possible. Micro is controlling your army as best as you can. So it means a macro match is when it comes down to how big the armys are. Micro matches are when both have similar macro and it comes down to who can control the units better

So... Protoss STILL doesn't have a Premiere Tournament win in recent history? It's probably because of heavy-handed nerfs to critical Protoss units like Void Rays (which you hardly see at all anymore) and Disruptors (one of Protoss's very few forms of splash damage). Nevertheless, Astrea showed us here the only way to play Protoss against modern Zerg: extremely aggressively at all aspects of the game. You have to keep Zerg trading out units while maintaining an impeccable defense against Zergling and Baneling run-by to win, unless you throw a massive curveball like the Sentry / Immortal all-in. Game #3 really showed how awful Adepts are, struggling to clean up a relatively small number of Queens even after the Zerglings are all dead. There's no reason for Adepts to not have the same DPS as a Roach once Glaives has been finished, given that they cost more, have less health, have fewer upgrades, and can't be morphed into anything else.

So what? Protoss is still winning the most tournaments in PvZ at 52% balance, and anything 47-53 is considered well balanced. The game can't be balanced around two players in the occasional grand final of a premiere, that doesn't make any sense. The Void Rays were absolute cancer and GM was just all Protoss.

@@hivetech4903 Horrible take. Competitive games are ALWAYS balanced around the performance of the best players, because they represent the POTENTIAL. Any other results can LITERALLY be resolved by simply playing better. If you look at Tournament statistics, you will see a common thread: at lower-level tournaments, such as majors and minors, Protoss puts on a good showing -- even if it doesn't win all that frequently. It does well in qualifiers and in the main event, and even has good showings in the semis and finals, though not spectacular. Even if you control for Serral, who is an absolute madman, your best bet in those final rounds is on Terran with Zerg as a close second. HOWEVER, if you look at the very top levels of play, Protoss gets wrecked. Their showing in Premier tournaments is incredibly poor, because the very best players know how to defend against weird build orders and early harassment, and Protoss has a TERRIBLE late game once spellcasters start hitting the field in large numbers.

​@@Josh-99 Utterly wrong. The game has always been balanced around ALL tournaments. aligulac's balance report has measured this and its history corresponds with nerfs & buffs. I'm not sure how you didn't know this because Lowko and pro streamers like Harstem use it regularly for balance discussion. Competitive games are NEVER balanced around the top 10 - that is just a whacky concept. You can't artificially force Protoss into Premiere wins because Zerg & Terran have a higher skill ceiling. GM would become flooded with Protoss and the game would die. Everyone has known about this problem for a long time, but its better to have fewer Protoss in the Premieres than an IMBA pro scene and dead game.

@@hivetech4903 Serral LITERALLY got Zerg nerfed one season. Maru did the same for Terran. And you are right: Terran and especially Zerg have higher potentials than Protoss, which is both a problem and UTTERLY INSANE. The race with the high-cost units should be the one with units that have higher potential and greater flexibility, but it's just the opposite, forcing Protoss to play highly aggressive and/or cheesy just to have a chance, and even then they have difficulty closing out games.

"They have all been Terran, except the ones Serral played in" That is absolutely the saddest statement I have heard in a long long time... it just proves that Terran needs a nerf, at least ghosts and maybe marines cuz let's be real Marines are NOT an early game unit in the eyes of these top level Terrans and they can deal an absolutely ridiculous amount of damage AND not let melee units touch them via stagger stepping. Terrans also have so many cheap costing mechanics that are stupid powerful, like scans are basically free especially after they put up 14 CCs so Detection UNITS ie Raven, are absoutly useless and/or they don't have to be conservative with their raven play and will either not play em or Yolo em into stupid situations. MUELs not counting towards mineral saturation (ie 16/16 workers and you can still drop a dozen muels that also mine), emergency depots hats... all for FREE via energy over time. And then there's both other races that need to chance losing a unit in order to get Detection, but here comes 18 ghosts and a ball of marines and medivacs no raven in sight but oh look there's a scan, and another, and another,.. and there you have it, Terran has FULL vision of the lane and enemy base and all units FOR FREE and in walk cloaked ghosts just one shoting everything with an ability that, you guessed it, IS FREE (no energy cost) with a miniscule cooldown AAAAAAAAAAND there goes the enemy base and all their top tier units... >_>
