My theory for why Protoss gets a hard time with tournaments would be. At the top level Protoss is working with a whole lot less information. Protoss units are very expensive and hard to scout with. Zerg has full map vision with the creep spread and Terran has the radar towers and scans. So my theory is that Protoss is simply missing the full map vision ability. Take this with a gran of salt because I don’t even play I have just been watching lowko for about half a year

Protoss has them cool cloaked observers. They can also scout with hallucinated units 🤷🏽‍♂️

non-player/only-watcher of 7years here: my take on it is a different idea.. i think protoss has to rely on tricking his opponent and thus is inconsistent, because protoss isnt that micro-able as other races. i dont think protoss-pros are worse than terran/zerg and i dont think thats the reason they have lower APM most of the times. i think it is, because you just cant get that much more out of the race just by being able to hit more buttons. i think terran+zerg reward the player much more for being able to do multiple things at once. and that also means, that protoss is hard to balance. in zerg and terran you have so many possibilites to screw your gameplan up even without interacting with your opponent (creepspread, queen injects, makroing out of multiple barracks, keeping your scans/mules up). protoss doesnt have that. and that's why protoss feels stronger on the ladder and lower ELOs.. to a certain point, sc2 is a skill-check at first. the first few ladders from the bottom basicly are "who can play their build better".. then gold/diamond follows with "who can play his build + control his army properly?" and then Master and GM the additional "how good is your crisis management?".. and protoss basicly skips parts of the first two essentials by being good with a-move and a solid built. but to me it feels like protoss cant really mix it up properly.. a pure groundarmy stops at midgame for protoss.

In my noob experience, yeah on ladder many T build them. As an opener or as a last resort. Terran goes silent for 5 min and abracadabra 8BC in main :D

I mean inconsistency with protoss makes alot of sense, when you have so many units that are expensive, micro becomes much more important especially in the early and mid game, add in the requirement of power units to just survive the majority of pushes, and that most tournaments require alot of edurance, staying up for 10-20-30 hours and I think it becomes pretty clear that small micro mistakes are actually major ones for protoss compared to the other races, now ofc this also means that if your micro is perfect then it is extremly rewarding.

Agree, as a P, i feel like I was advantaged as a noob when I learned A click, but now at low master when people make encirclement and stutter steps, i feel like I'm punished more heavely for mistakes than Terrans (or zergs).

while micro is more important since Toss units are so expensive.. i feel like toss-players cant stand out with exceptional micro.. you can micro any unit with warpprism, okay. but other than that you have stalker-blink and disruptors..anything else? i wouldnt call sentry-bubble or hightemplar storming micro.. are we counting "keep your archons in front of your HT and your skytoss army above it" as micro? sure, it's easy to screw that up, dont get me wrong, but is it micro? i dunno why, but i want toss-players to be able to shine more with micro. i dont think they are worse than top-terran/zergs, i just feel like they lack oportunities due to the race-layout

I mean, it generally is more boring. Zerg stay on tier 1 units for years, and teching up is really gradual. Most of their units need upgrades to be useful and stuff like Lair and Spire just take ages to build. Toss and Terran open by teching up, Z teching rewards hit with such a delay they tech behind the midgame gameplay. Like, what are you going to do? Ling speed and Void Rays occur roughly at the same time, the absolute fastest Spire is 30sec and a bunch of gas slower than a Terran Starport and single Spire units are garbage. Tunneling Roaches take two consecutive Lair tech upgrades to be truly useful. Zerglings are awful at busting in people's front doors. Zerg dropships require a speed upgrade to even move and even then they are slow trash. The only real questions in Z early game are "are they making enough Roaches to push a front door", "are they Queenwalking vs. Stargate" and "is the Z player's name Bly". Outside that, Z early game is dry as the fucking Sahara. Good defensively, but 0 cool things to do.

@@Komatik_ and that's why zerg has the ability to spawn 6workers at once and usually doesnt trade efficient. if zerg had the same possibilities and the ability to pump out that many workers, they'd be broken. and that's why it's always the job of P+T to keep zerg from doing their stuff in peace.

HeroMarine IS my favorite T player, and also owns my favorite Pro gamer name haha. Love him. Love his decision making his constant multitasking and love the fact that he isnt the typical player, going for the same stuff all the time. Really love the guy's playstyle. :D

Multiple Orbital's to spam mules on mineral patches. An ultra late-game terran has few SVC's and gets their minerals from mules. I've never heard of it called the Iron Bank before, but as a ASoIAF/GoT fan, I whole heartedly endorse the name. EDIT: I had to put ASoIAF before GoT, or else I was giving D&D too much credit.

burrowed banes only work next to walls, on corners, or other narrow places. not in the middle of open space. Seems strange that reynor wouldn't know this. the AI pathing tries to take the shortest path. That means trying to move as close to corners as possible to minimize distance traveled.

Starcraft2 needs a patch badly to fix zerg unit compositions. Zerg only builds zerglings and banes while maybe adding lurkers in the late. Literally 12 mins of only making lings. Nerf the queen and buff the spinecrawler to force the zerg to actually invest into static defense if they want to survive until they have 90 drones. Queens make it too easy to power up. Ghosts will need a nerf too, though.

Lowko doesnt understand the 3 rax. Although it was 3 base vs 2 bases, the worker count was almost even for a long time because Z has to make many lings to not die to mass marine. The medivac follow up is also much faster relative to the zergs lair tech

At like 3:10 Zerg started pulling ahead in drones. 4 minute mark, zerg is 9 workers ahead. 5 min mark when the marines touched the creep, the 9 workers lead was still maintained. I'm not sure how you count, but that doesn't look even at all. At their low level of workers, that's nearly 20% worker lead. It was only at 5:30 that the 3rd CC started. If this was a different build, the 3rd CC would've been finished already. Also, remember that Reynor was pool first there. If he was hatch first, the eco lead would've been way bigger, and he could still catch up in zergling production when the overlord spots the marine moveout. When the medivacs arrived, Terran still at 2 bases while zerg is at 4. This isn't even a two base all in lol. I've seen this build work a couple of times, but it was only when the Terran is fighting a weaker opponent. I haven't seen this work vs top level zergs.

Heromarine is definitely one of the best Terran players in the world. I think he lacks pure visibility or conversation though because of two reasons. First - The Korean scene has had the GSL which is not only a high level of gameplay but also entire seasonal competition of exposure Second- Clem has overshadowed his own success to the point where it is usually debated who is the best player in EU comes down to him and Serral.... Heromarine though mixes up build orders and can play very offensively or defensively, at least from an entertainment point of view I quite enjoy Heromarine's gameplay and general approach to the game, which as a casual viewer I appreciate.

If people just played better they would be fine. Zerg players just have higher standards for minimum apm to be good. Like if you were good enough to actually be constantly doing Terran drops like Zerg does ling run bys then you’d see Zerg isn’t all that good

Disagree. Zerg is just a more permissive race, that allows small mistakes and poor harass. But with perfect play, there is no way a Terran or a protists loose vs perfect play Zerg lategame. So maybe nerf defensive option might do the trick ( for aggressive early timing) but in this case something has to be done to make Zerg early aggression better at pro level. But if you make early Zerg better at aggro for the pro, Zerg will just roll over people until at least diamond with semi cheese

Bro ive only ever played starcraft 2 on single player i dream of playing this game on multiplayer but even after beating the campaign multiple times on brutal i dont think i can even get close to Gold League. Just watching these tournaments really get my blood pumping everything about these are exciting idk if its just lowko or the game or shit even both! Which Z unit should counter Ghosts? I guess small stuff not worth sniping, so Lings? But Ghost auto-attack is super strong against them. So what unit then? Banes? Takes like 8 Bane hits to kill a tanky Ghost. So what else?

Maybe Mutas? They would be able to counter their medivacs, have no energy to emp, are highly mobile, can pull back quickly to regen. But definitely not Ultras. Thats a quick way to throw a game.

I don't like the 3 racks TvZ opening. The only thing it might achieve is to force out a bunch of lings so zerg can't be super-greedy, but those lings frequently trade well with stim marines without medevacs and as Lowko points out it delays the 3rd CC. I've seen it in several high-level pro games recently and it always put terran behind. It really looks inferior to proxy 2 and 3 racks, so I can't see any reason to mix it in for variety.
