The thing about Ghosts is that they're the ultimate anti Zerg heavy unit (Snipe spam) and anti-protoss deathball (EMP to half kill skytoss in 2 seconds lol), but against massed fodder units they get destroyed. It's kind of funny how they can take down an Ultralisk in seconds but get rekt by a small clump of zerglings.

The Ghost have also been surrounded and outnumbered at one point. But a few medivac support and they're good. No single unit should be that good. Special units like infestors and high templars couldnt act like a couple of rambos.

Serral kept dumping money into those lurkers. The ghosts get amazing trades. I think he would have been better off using roaches to transition into banelings to deal with those ghosts and marines. Roaches are cheap and can stand against ghosts without the zerg player worrying too much about the snipes until banelings are available.

It would have been a massive investment of time and resources in a relatively low eco scenario. Serral would have needed to get the bane nest and then the bane upgrade. If he'd gone to roaches at that time, Clem would have just countered with marauders and what tanks he had. He would then have overrun Serral. If Serral had managed to hold on until he had fully upgraded banelings, he would still not have had the eco to produce sufficient amounts of banes to flood Clem. Clem is also really good at dispatching banelings, with his insane micro so probably less than half of the banes would have made it close. Honestly, Clem played that wonderfully well with nice positioning and amazing aggression in the early game preventing Serral from getting the eco advantage he needed.

I was thinking that perhaps a lot of zerglings with hydras was the answer, send lings in for the ghosts and then attack with the hydras, or perhaps some mutas might have worked as well

Transitioning into Lurker was a good deicision for Serral, he push Clem back on 3 bases. But he was mistaken in marching more Lurker into Terran turtle defense with many Ghosts and some Tanks. He should have taken his 6th base earlier, and either transition futher into Corruptor-BroodLord or Ling-Ultra-Hydra. Lurker did their job and Serral should be done with them after that.

@@inflatablewolfie while I agree with you on many counts. Clem had so much money and supply tied up in his ghosts. Hes insanely good at fighting banes with a large marine army but not with a ghost/tank army when serral had vipers for blinding cloud. You might be right that the tiime/investment would have been too much at that point, but obviously throwing the lurkers against a ghost heavy army was not the answer. Not sure I agree with broodlords either after seeing a previous serral/clem game in which clem decimated his broodlord army with ghosts.

Someone else mentioned that probably Serral's main mistake here was rushing for the win. He had Clem down big time. Theoretically, he should have been able to out grow him.

This game was amazing, it felt like Clem had the game or at least had a huge advantage but then Serral would do something weird, like burrowed roaches, or nydus worm to lurkers in the main base.

This game once again affirms my belief that Terran bio (with appropriate support) is the most balanced army in the game. It's the one composition that can be easily killed by practically any build zerg and protoss can make, but simultaneously, it's also the comp that can kill any kind of build when controlled by a sufficiently skilled player, which Clem definitely is.

As you continued to highlight, banelings really could have been a game changer here. Also I think him letting the medevacs exist without any sort of anti-air what so ever was an extremem detriment. Whatever the number of corruptors needed to 1 shot a single medevac hot keyed for quick hit and run snipes would be one possible solution to least keep there numbers down somewhat. I think a big takeaway from this is while lurkers are sexy and in a perfect world would wipe the entire terran army in 1 spike volley... the reality is between endless scans, ghost snipes, and tanks... all of that gas could have been spent on banelings. Looping back to the medevac issue too, going the traditional ling/bane/muta route.. at least the mutas could chase down some medevacs a bit too and still provide some dps to knock out a tank or take on small packs of marines with ling support. Thanks for all you do Lowko for the SC2 community. Long time viewer but just subscribing today. Love your commentaries.

what would you rather have in your army, tho? 10 lurkers, or 10 corruptors? Before clem get critical mass of ghosts Serral was on a limited economy and under constant attack through all the game, if he makes corruptors he just die. After clem got his ghosts, corruptors would probably juste been sniped down with mediocre returns.

@@pelinore2366 That is a good point about ghost snipes taking out the corruptors. I suppose one way to look at that though is lurkers are more expensive in both time to produce and minerals/gas... I mean.. say for example 5 corruptors get snipe wiped... that could be the difference of 250/250 and lots of production time too. I get it though. It's easy to arm chair quarterback from our perspective. To respond to your question though... 10 corruptors to wipe healing, drops, and possibly Vikings/Ravens/BC... and all the gas and time to produce lurkers could go to banelings instead. Playing against top tier Terrans with high level tank/ghost/medevac micro... I would rather have the banes and corruptors. Both require significantly less micro and tech, which would free me up to pursue other paths... like aggressive macro for 4th/5th, or even going Nydus and swarm host (watch some scarlet matches to see highest level of play of this) has done me wonders as well. Of course, this would only be done with a turtle opponent. If you are playing a terran that constantly pressures you, going the traditional ling/bane/x (muta/ultra/corruptors/even broods late game with excess corruptors) is what I've been more successful with.

" I don't understand what you tried to say here. 5 corruptors cost 750/500 in ressources, 1000/700 including the cost of the spire. I do think banelings were sorely missed in this game to face the ghosts tho, yeah. But as said, serral was kinda short on money (and banelings against clem can quickly disappear in 2 good tank shots or a perfect target fire). Serral could transition from roach-ravager either by adding hydra-lurkers or by adding banelings. If he didn't make lurkers he'd probably have died earlier tbh with the early damage from clem and his mediocre roach tech.

@@pelinore2366 Yeah, and compare that to Hydra den, Lurker Den, Burrow, Burrow speed, and Range upgrade, plus the cost of hydra, morph to lurker.. cost + all the upgrade/production time. Also the comment about Swarms, I mentioned turtle terran. Allow me to clarify, I was making the alignment with mech style. The weak mobility of thors.. nydus and swarm can really punish this play style. Super fun if you haven't tried it.

@@elwinkline6387 oh yeah, swarmhost is a good weapon against mech terran. the difference between hydra into lurker compared to corruptors is that hydra/lurkers hold the line and dps the ground units. In comparison corruptors don't help you survive when clem make a marine/tank push on your position.
