@LowkoTV I think hallucinations were first illusions created by psionic energy. These first kind of hallucinations did not have physical substance at all. High templars could create hallucinations in Starcraft 1. The first hallucination we saw was created by none other than Tassadar in Starcraft 1 Zerg Campaign. I still remember how much Kerrigan got pissed when she realized. Of course Daelaam Protoss use sentries to create hallucinations using technology instead of psionics which became the standard for the Starcraft 2. It turns out that some Terrans can also develop a similar ability. I refer to the novel called Starcraft: Ghost: Spectres. There, Jackson Hauler created an image of a person and presented it to another person. I don't think it was a complete hallucination though.

@LowkoTV There are at least two types of hallucinations. The first are psionic illusory duplicates of other beings/vehicles, courtesy of psionic powers. This psionic ability to create hallucinations can be used by high templar though the Dark Templar are able to employ a similar technique on their ships. These phantasms are without physical substance. The second version is technological, and is used by sentries. These hallucinations are composed of solid light and are three-dimensional, able to mimic protoss warriors, vehicles, and constructs. Each replica, while limited in duration, is able to withstand some degree of punishment. ~StarCraft Wikia

A hallucination has no material substance, and in fact does not exist at all. The opponent hallucinating would be attacking something only they can see, something which does not exist at all meaning they would be firing into thin air, or at least that's how a hallucination should work.

I believe current hallucinations are made out of hard light, as is described somewhere. However, high templar could once make hallucinations, which would presumably be made out of psychic energy.

I have no idea what Dear is doing in the second game. Every possible light in your head should burn bright red when you see stuff he is seeing in that game. DTs are a HUGE possibility, you could almost say 100% certain that Parting is making DTs. Why are you not making an Oracle at that point?!!?
