Matthew Clark But then the carrier stops as well. If you need the carrier to fly away from a bad fight, the interceptors just keep on spawning and suiciding themselves into enemy units following so you bleed the minerals and build time. A ‘Return interceptors and don’t send them out’ button would be handy, and not necessarily require balancing other units.

@@lordpeckle6714 Late game Toss losses to Late game Zerg, usually only in high level, since Zerg can actually micro their late game units and get more value but Toss can't really get much out of it. You can even see Scarlet make some mistakes here but still win, other Zerg players would dismantle air toss late game.

@@lordpeckle6714 that means zerg naturally has instruments to deal with maxed toss. So that PvZ isn't "survive until autowin". It can easily be the other way around with adept rush, for example, because adepts can fall off and all-in strategies often put aggressor at disadvantage. You're mean. You're probably very unhappy. About making Protoss late game more viable: Its great that they made the Mothership infestor-proof, if they can make them un-abductable as well, that will be great. Hear me out here: lore wise the thing is supposed to be half a planet in size, and a single Viper can abduct it ? Also for the cost and the lack of any other utility (other than the cloaking), getting one shot by a clump of corrupters is just BS. Also: THANK YOU for saying people who say Protoss is Easy has never played Protoss. Thank you for that.

Scarlett once commented on that on the Pylon show. She said that would break the game because the mothership has to die before you can engage/ abduct anything else as a zerg (obviously because you can easily kill all detection by target fire). I don't think the mothership is super interesting anyways so mby just replace it... Other general themes for late game by Artosis and Harstem (what I picked up from them): Spamming AoE by Zerg and Protoss spellcasters makes the game pretty boring and deathball-y, also late game shouldn't be centered around capital ships as much because that makes for less dynamic games. In general spells should be more stratetic/ interesting than do X damage at Y. I personally (as a master scrub) would enjoy a buff to Zerg Tier 3 whilst nerfing AoE spells and giving compensation buffs to protoss and terran as needed.

Or as you said, remove it entirely and make other aspects of Protoss unit composition more viable, like give the High Templars a better regular attack, so that they are not as helpless in one on one. Skytoss in general are slow and with low maneuverability, BCs are slow but because of the jumping ability they become maneuverable. Other than that the other Terran air units are mostly fast and with their own unique abilities. Do something similar to Skytoss, Tempests are debilitatingly slow and Void Rays can't chase down anything, I am okay with the capital ships ( Carriers and Mothership) being slow as they are, but the other Skytoss units need to be made faster or be given abilities that make them more maneuverable.

I feel like you under estimated her intentions on that second to last battle with the carriers. By letting several carriers live with low health, they were using part of the minerals that should have been available to the healthier carriers for interceptors. Second time she went in she targeted all of the carriers she had softened up and killed a lot of the army dps for a small amount of work.

Agreed. It's a tactic I've seen a few times. Severely damaged units are using up Supply (denying the player from building fresh replacements) and are a massive handicap as they are next to useless in any future engagements. It's a brilliant tactic.

the "hide buildings" tactic can never work because the moment you leave the area and reference that spot on the map, the unit vision is lost and you'll still see the building on the map from outside the fog of war.

Random idea about SkyToss ball: Why not create an ability on the carrier that allows them to swap between 2 modes? The first one being the run on the mill carrier we all know The second one would be a "Turtle up" in wich the carrier would loose all offensive capacity but gain a heck lot of armor, by the means of using it's so called "Interceptors" defensivly, like an extra shield matrix It would increase it's survivability to the yank, to say the least

You've definitely got it on the nose that the micro potential of the two unit compositions needs to be brought more in line. This should be tackled from both the zerg and protoss ends. This would be my suggestion: For Zerg, I think it would be helpful to replace the Infestor with a new unit. This would be a ground unit with a powerful but slow-firing attack, decent range, and a very small AoE. Once upgraded at the infestation pit, this attack would behave a lot like fungal growth, slowing units it hits by 25%. This produces an interesting duality for Zerg when fighting skytoss - do I invest in this new unit to kill the interceptors, or corruptors to kill the carriers? My one concern here is that it might make zerg less swarm-ey, but late game was already like that for them anyway so it is what it is. From the protoss end, I really, really like the Arbiter suggestion - another spellcaster would go a long way, plus recall from multiple places would allow for some really fun plays and would help counter Zerg's mobility advantage. Still not much to do in a fight tho, so I think you'd have to give the new Arbiter one more ability, unlocked through research at the fleet beacon this time. Obviously stasis is too good, but I don't really like time warp either - it plays out almost exactly like psi storm. I was thinking something you could cast on your own units to save them from death, basically a stasis on your own unit. For the 2-3 second duration, the unit you cast it on can't move and can't attack but is untargetable and regenerates a small portion of its shields (15% or so). This would synergize well with recall and really be the bread and butter of adding the arbiter to the game, because now there is so much reactive counter-micro potential, and unlike storm, you can't cast it willy-nilly: you'll take your own units out of the fight. Finally, the arbiter from sc1 cloaked nearby units. This arbiter already seems pretty powerful, so lets maybe avoid adding that. What we could do, however, is make it a spell that cloaks all nearby units for 4 seconds and gives them and the arbiter a small speed boost (10%ish). Units would have to stay within range and killing the arbiter would end the effect early, just like with the mothership. Situational, but still useful. Thoughts? Suggestions? I'd love to hear your feedback!

Lowko, carrier tweeks. Hold interceptors to fire 3 range air or ground barrage DPS = to # of interseptors DPS. Fleet Beacon research ability same cost and research time as storm. Or a kamikaze fighter option ground or air target damage = sheild+remain hit points. Basically trade damage for minerals and time.

I think something like "deploy interceptor", a skill that interceptor deploy to an area and existed even after the carrier is destroyed. It would still guard that area for some time which I think this would not broke the overall damage output and you need to deploy it wisely or else you are left with empty carrier until cooldown timer are reached. Losing full loaded carrier is such a pain. I would like to hear any idea if this would work, or not?

Carriers used to have this ability. They could deploy interceptors anywhere on the map wherever on the map (like Battlecruiser tactical jump) but that was removed very early in Legacy of the Void

I feel there would still be a lack of ability to micro that very much as it seems it would be a little like a slightly weaker swarm host at that point since you still can't micro the interceptors. There would also need to be a limit on the range from which it can be done because if it can just go anywhere it might lead to pure turtling on the protoss end

I think we prottoss need dark archons. Mind control and confusion could be very good micro potential. Reminder,dark archons are made from 2 dark templar which are expensive,plus they don't deal much damage,they deal around 20 and don't have bonus to anything. It would be balanced I think

Honestly Protoss has the tools to contest Zerg in the late game. Carrier+Disruptor is a very potent combo. Tempests are also amazing with some ground forces and especially High Templars for both storms but also feedback against Vipers+Infestors.

Amazing game and I totally agree that Carriers need more micro value added and a move lost like Lowko said. How much more sense would it make if by default carriers attacked with only 70% of total intercepter numbers so in desperate situations more could be deployed or with a special move all come out in first engagement and with briefly buffed attack speeds. If it got op the carrier health could be slightly reduced.

Here are a few ideas for Carrier mico. 1: Give the Carriers the ability to send their interceptors to basically pull an Enders Game by acting as meat shields for namely anything that got abducted or wanted to get at something in the 'Heart Of The Swarm' and live to tell the tale. 2: Alternatively you could make the interceptors attach to something to make it go faster (Picture a carbon animation with interceptors pushing a Carrier along together.) 3: Give the Carrier the ability to 'Evacuate' which while destroying the Carrier would allow the remaining interceptors to find a new Carrier.

How about this for carriers, make them more like liberators. Offer a siege mode where you can set and attack area for interceptors a huge distance from the carrier's, but the carrier is locked in place and has to do some kind of transformation. You could also have a stand ground mode a little like with the observers/overseers, where they have more range in all directions. You could also disable interceptor launch when carrier is moving

Interceptor cannon: carrier sacrifices an interceptor by launching it kamikazi style at a single target. Costs an interceptor for a burst of single target damage. Makes it possible to snipe vipers/corruptors and other high value targets but comes at the cost of small wind up and the mineral cost of an interceptor. Potentially the interceptor could even do a small amount of splash damage, reaver style. This would also alow early carrier harrass, similar to Yamato Cannon Battlecruiser openers. So it would be more agressive, more mico-heavy, but comes with a monetary and dps cost to the carriers themselves. Maybe ever require the ability to be reasearched prior to use to limit the power behind a little time and money

The issue seems to be free units. Put a cost on the swarm host swarm bettles that get killed by the player that fly. Put a 1 supply cost on 'static' defence.

Looks like Lowko forgot to mention that it's very easy to lose instantly as zerg also if you forget to build an extractor :-D And about the PvZ lategame: I think you have to make a new Protoss unit which is very microable, and then nerf or remove one of the existing Protoss units. In other words, a massive change, not a tiny balance patch.

for carrier micro, would like a "weapon-outfit" work? ie: one weapon kit is supremely good at antiground, another anti air, and another as like a "jack of all trades"?

@Kyler Dowling maybe different interceptor models? Or different payloads given? ie Fenix champion carrier in coop. And maybe the special loadoutz only last a small amount of time?

The most successful PvZ lategames I've seen recently get less carriers and more immortal backstabs in the comp. Can't recall who (I think SoS?) instead of robo added in some fenix to specifically target down Vipers and Overseers, actually making the mothership useful again!

Seems like Skytoss has the same problem that Terran mech does against Zerg late game: You can beat them in a straight up fight, but you're much slower than them, and therefore they can abuse the late game split map and pressure you on the flanks and you just *can't* be in two places at once to deal with it all. This gives the Zerg better control over the map and generally allows you to do things like steal a base, or at least prevent any type of committed push by your opponent. I suspect another piece of this is the Zerglings have some of the best speed and DPS per cost of any unit in the game, so a relatively inexpensive (both in minerals and supply) force of lings make a more effective raiding force because they can get in, kill stuff, and get out faster than other races equivalent type of units (things like Reapers, Hellions, Zealots, etc.)

I think mobile "static"defense for zerg is also a thing. Having 20 spore crawlers helping out in every engagement that dont cost supply helps quite a bit.

I think a button to return the interceptors to the carriers would really help. And somehow allow them to launch all the interceptors simultaneously. Or, on the other hand, increase the range from the carrier interceptors can attack in. It actually makes zero sense carriers are so close to the actual combat. Edit: I just had an idea. What if carriers could form shield walls with interceptors? Wouldn't that add good micro potential?

Nerf interceptors damage by 2 points, give carriers a spell that changes type of interceptors that do 3 extra damage to specific types (light, armored, bio, mechanical, massive, building, etc), give them a spell that changes interceptor abilities (extra damage, slight slow, extra range). Significant nerf to carriers that aren't micro'd, slight buff to micro'd carriers. No more A-move carriers

That really looked like Scarlet throwing the first game, its been awhile since I saw any pros built tempest during skytoss fights since a revelation cost an entire oracle since it has to go in abduct range, but Neeb got so many free tempest pelts off from that. What about a fleet beacon upgrade that lets carriers blink if they currently have interceptors building? Let Carriers attack while moving? Let Carriers dock on the ground like vikings while interceptors are out? Let Carriers carry units like the prism to protect their splash damage?
