This mission is so much easier if you simply use hydras to clean out the bases on your side of the map, and then switch into guardians and devourers to kill everything else. 2 control groups of guardians, 2 control groups of devourers.

Lowko, if I am not mistaken, the devourer acid spore doesn't increase damage from devourer, rather that unit under effect from acid spore receives one more damage per acid spore from ANY source. Meaning that if your hydralisk shoots it, it will receive that dmg + number of acid spores on it per each attack.

@manucubwwa Actually the acid spores can give affected units negative armor, down to -9 if there are nine spores and the unit is unarmored. They are strong when combined with mutalisks, which hit three times and can deal up to 27 extra damage per attack, and they attack faster than devourers too.

Lowko, when loading overlords create more space between them and your army. If you can put selected units into an overlord, the overlord will move towards them. If they cannot fit, or it is full, the overlord will not move. This way you can see which OL's have units in them and which ones are empty. they will be spatially separated. Then you can have your empty OL's tank AA. And just take your time. You are playing campaign where the drops have clearly slowed down. You are fine taking your time counting how many ultras/hydras go into an OL.

2 control groups of Overlords - 2.4k minerals. 200 supply worth of Ultra/Hydra - about 8k minerals, 5k gas. Saving the game right when he clearly just ran his complete drop fleet into those two Valkyries - priceless.

Acid spores from devourers decreases the attack speed of the target, per stack. But the better part is that it also adds 1 damage to every attack received by the afflicted unit, per stack. This includes the jumps from muta's attacks, and since Devourers attack slowly, but apply the stacks as an AoE, every jump from the mutas attack will have extra flat damage.

Devourers' acid spores slow down the frequency of attacks from enemy air. It's hilarious how long a Valkyrie takes to fire when hit with 9 spores! They are also really good air tanks. Better to have them hit than guardians! Plus even one spore shows cloaked units

i just had 3 devs on each 12 group so 9 muta too. 2 of such groups can really give good support to my guardian group that shreds anything. the mutas can also destroy any undefended ground forces

Garrett Reven Devourers are sucker units. Hardly anyone used them at the top of the ladder back when I played BW. I saw them slightly more frequently than the notoriously bad Scouts.

31:02 Commands nearly 30 loaded overlords directly to valkyries which do area damage against air, and saves after giving that command. Such awesomeness! :) @Lowko, moving mass dropalords towards valkyries is particularly dangerous because even if valkyries won't kill them all, they still damage them badly with their AoE attacks so that the actual enemy base defenses then tear the low HP overlords apart in seconds. That's what happened there.

Genuinely surprised he didn't get nuked down when he unloaded the 2nd try of dropper lords. He left the army unloaded in a clump for a long time while watching the top left base fall. If you build a hatch on the far right continent it gets constant nuke harass.

I completed this mission using Nydus Canals. You were able to spawn the Nydus exit point on ANY creep, even it it was created by enemy zerg units. That made things easier for me in this mission. IDK if they changed it in SC: Remastered though. Also, guardians ftw.

Lowko my friend. best way to load up overlords slash shuttles is to get full control groups of units then shift right click on all of the overlords slash shuttles you wish to load up. your units will walk up to and check every overlord slash shuttle to see if they can get into it hope this helps love you bro XD

Casually mentioning Nydus Canals is so much more satisfying than actually using them. As for uploading Overlords - it's just a matter of the right system. Clone-spread them into groups of 3 and it becomes very easy to sort the loaded from the empty ones.

I find the easiest way to load Overlords is to select some units, hold down shift, and spam right click a bunch of Overlords. This is reasonably quick and also makes it fairly obvious which Overlords are full so it's easy to separate them. That said, Nydus is still the best way to move a whole army if you have somewhere to build the exit.

If you had sense you would use Queens to parasite enemy Overlords or drop ships to allow you to not only scout the map and look out for air drops, but also to use the enemy detectors for your own use

Mike Scott No air units is a must for this mission. The enemy Valkyrie + Devourer combo will annihilate any air unit that you bring. DTs won't help much either because in addition to countless science vessels, overlords, turrets and spore colonies the AI will instantly scan if hit by an undetected invisible unit.

They're still great to have. Loads of Guardians can melt all the siege tanks and marines while swarms of hydralisks shoot down anything that goes for the guardians. And DTs make good shock troops to rapidly slaughter marines and hydralisks/kill sunken colonies while your own hydras and mutalisks chase off overlords and science vessels. Generally, using everything at your disposal (ground forces + air support) makes things easier and, I think, more fun.

This is true, but even so you might as well take advantage of the fact that you can have a 216 supply army. Even if it's only SLIGHTLY improved, no matter what all things being equal, Zerg army + 8 DT is better than that very same Zerg army without 8 DT.

you know the clue is in the base at the start of the game. if the mission gave you new units at the start then you should make those units. i finish this mission in one try. early expansion, hydras and DT for base defense, when supply reach 100 i attack two nearby terran bases using 3 dozens hydras and overtake their resources. brimming with gasses then i go mass guardians and devourers. after that is easy my 3 dozens guardians + 2 dozens devourers anhiliated every enemy bases.

Devourers could be made in BW Zerg mission 6...the player is just not gifted with them at the start of that mission. So, from a tech tree standpoint interpretation of "new unit", that isn't true

Im glad this is the hardest mission in SC1. It shows how competent of an enemy the UED was. The UED lost by being stretched too thin accross three planets, losing their best tactician (Stukov) and being essentially dismantled by a clever alliance of the most powerful forces in the sector.

Devourers don't do more damage over time. They attack units with acid spores that stick to them and reduce their armor by 1. A unit can have up to 9 spores. So if a battlecruiser has 6 armor but has 9 spores, it has -3 armor. A hydralisk that would normally do 10 damage does 19 damage to an enemy with 9 spores. Apparently the spores also slow enemy attack speed.

Imagine beating it in Starcraft 64... I loaded up a gajillion overlords and kamikaze-dropped everything on the overmind. Had just enough time to drop its health to 0 before everything died. So I reset over and over until a DT managed to land the final blow. Took something like 50 resets before it worked.

I recall having to reset dozens of times over this, though it's been over a dozen years. Maybe it's one of those things that were changed on the N64? It had a lot of changes, such as allowing you to complete Desperate Alliance(that early mission where you have to survive a Zerg attack for 30 minutes) before the time limit expired if you managed to destroy the Zerg bases. Or maybe it's just that my DTs just kept getting slaughtered before the Overmind died.

My first play-through of the campaign back in 1999, I used tons of static defense and struggled with many of the levels. Then I got into multiplayer and found mobility was way better. Next play-through of campaign was easy by comparison, though still time consuming heh. If I remember right, I used 3 or so control groups each of guardian and hydra so I could rotate out for health regeneration, trying to always have a fresh squad. A squad of devourers or mutas, or maybe half and half for support, depending on the map/enemy. Didn't usually bother with lings, ultras or lurkers. Sometimes for a change of pace I'd play defense, get a dozen queens and just slowly pick the enemy apart spawning broodlings, lol. I'm assuming remastered hasn't changed this, but in SC/BW when gas gets depleted, it isn't dried out, drone/scv/probe collect 2 gas instead of the typical 8 if I remember correctly. So you can run out of minerals on a map, but gas is unlimited.

I used South, S-E resourcse which are free to take and rarely attacked.Once have those resources you can start spamming countless waves to enemy bases.Get the middle and keep it and game is almost over.For ppl who wrote about next mission: well it is piece of cake :1, either produce limit of hydras or 2.(easier) use several defilers (dark swarm) and wipe the enemy base in 15 minutes with far less units instead at 25 with max units.

I admit I'm Impressed Lowko, you did what I was never able to do. I just went for the Ultralisk Drop Rush to do it in the past, the DTs only need to be there for the check when it dies, gameplay-wise they don't even have to attack it, though it helps. I am replaying the Remastered though, perhaps I'll try mass Hydra Ultra Ling. I was never able to clear the map before, though I believe I always tried for air units.

What makes this one so bad is that because of the way supply caps work in SC1 it's your 200 supply max up against the enemy's 800 supply max (200 Terran + 200 Zerg for each of the white & orange UED forces). By comparison, Omega only puts you up against 600 enemy supply... and also enforces build rules for the two separate Terran forces while here the UED can make whatever it wants.

Oh my god this mission... All I had growing up was Starcraft 64. Imagine how long it took me to beat this with nothing but an N64 controller...

The hardest mission in SC:RE is original terran last mission. When enemy ghost uses lockdown skill on Raynor, enemy troops target on Raynor. So we need to protect Raynor from enemy's massive attack on Raynor. It happens since 1.18.

Complete the next mission within 25 minutes, and you'll get the Secret Mission. You CANNOT access it in the game menu, so better save before proceeding. The Secret Mission will set the prelude to StarCraft II.

i agree, when playing BW for the first time back in the day this was the one mission that really strained me to the max. i believe it look sth like 3 1/2 hours of a straight up slugfest to beat it :D good times.

Building a base on the bottom right corner makes your life way easier. You can reinforce and attack from there and avoid loading all your troops into overlords. DT are very useful to defend your main base. And yes, nydus canal is a very good choice to move your units and defend all your bases or go across that cliff. And adding some guardians or lurkers won't hurt. Anyway, very well played, this is a challenging mission and I failed many times until I was able to win. Good job!

Wow, I'm impressed. This took me over an hour and I did not even take out the northern central base. Maybe I should have gone for ultralisks rather than lings, because they are better against the mass lurkers you encounter towards the finish.

Did you ever considered tactic called "scouting"? This arcane and esoteric method helps an user not to engage at the most heavily defended point. It might not seem as much, but you would be surprised at how much it matters when not beating your head against the wall!

Jeez, lowko really does not like using the new units in the missions specifically made to introduce the new units. Introduce devourers? Lets not use them even though there's soooo much enemy air.

When loading up overlords or dropships....anything of that nature, select every loading unit and then shift click all the units you want to send. Now you don't have to remember which loading unit is full or not

If you evolve Burrow, you can burrow control units after you assign them to get them out of the way.

Devourer acid spore will decrease armor by 1 and increase attack cooldown by 1/8 per spore. Attack cooldown capped at 7 spores and armor decrease at 9 spores, so minus 9 armor will take much more dmg even from muta second and third bounces. And spore units are also revealed even if cloaked. The spore is AOE but the damage is not.

I remember this mission being easier. Initially sniping detectors and queens with DT doing dirty work in order to transition to mass air. Guardians devourers and mutas.

Um....I actually didn't find this map that hard at all. For the early game aggression, I just got a few dts and quite a bit of static defense which handled it all fine, then got some lurkers to snipe at the workers in that base to my east. That drew a lot of the units that would have attacked my base aggressively to dumbly run up to the cliff and get hit by the lurkers and the hydra escort I had with them. From there, you're mostly free to build guardians or ultras to overrun the base to the north, then the one to your east.

what a clever understanding / application of the attack mechanics and how the SC1 AI operates. Also FWIW denying the computer factions resources that much quicker (as opposed to a "raze everything in the base at once" strategy) slightly lowers their Resources score at the end of the mission, as well as the scoring advantage they typically have with Resources

Omega is even more harder than any other mission in brood war due to UED Air Force, dominion ground force plus nukes and the Protoss air and ground forces and their psionic powers.

I think the first time I beat this mission, I had been messing up for 4 hours, completely mined out the map, and was reduced to a couple of queens and defilers. I dark swarmed the overmind and dropped the DT's on top. Dumb, but it was all I had left. Devourer/Guardian is more standard.

que up commands to load into several transports in a row, que up multiple drop locations on transports so they don't just go to standby when run out of space to land them, resulting in units stuck in inert derping transports...getting units to act in a remotely viable manner is so damn hard in SC1...
