Me too, most AAA games today are far less complete at launch and adds a lot of it's content as DLCs. They also tend to be a lot buggier at launch. Heck, Star wars Outlaws just had people pay 20 bucks so people could start playing a weekend earlier (well there was a few cosmetic items too) and then when they patched it, people's save files don't work. I don't think I ever made a better deal then Stardew valley when it comes to buying entertainment and the game was great already at launch. The Island and the Co-op functions are probably the best additions to the game, a lot of extra hours of playtime and a different way to play the game.

As someone who only started playing since 1.5, the 1.6 update made me feel what it must've been like to watch a game you adore evolve into something more complex! I remember back when it was said that 1.5 was most likely going to be the last big update. That always made me a bit sad, like I got too late to the party. A part of me does feel that sympathy towards the new players that joined after 1.6. After all, the changes 1.6 brought made the game feel magical in a way I had never felt before! It was the perfect mix of knowing just enough about how the game works, so I wouldn't stress myself out with unknown mechanics and rules, while also having just enough new details to make me stop and appreciate what was happening on my screen :)

As someone who didn't discover the game until 1.5, this was absolutely fascinating. Both impressive to see how much content has been added, and also how much content was original. It always has been a really well made game, and CA has improved it a lot and given us later-game content, making it really well rounded and replayable. I have 3k hours (I'm retired and disabled, so it's nothing for me to spend most of a day playing) and with the SVE mod, I feel as if I'll never really get tired of SV.

I played through Stardew the first time back in 1.0 and, yeah, I felt very completionist back then by playing past completing the community center and getting Grandpa's evaluation. Skull Cavern just felt like that bonus extra dungeon that you do if you're bored (because it was, I suppose). The one thing that would be interesting to show about Fall, like Shadow Guy in Winter, is the bulletin board not existing. None of those mid, late game quests to do either, just help wanted quests and the community center.

As someone who had beaten Fector's Challenge way back in 1.0 Junimo Kart was literally unplayable. There was way too much RNG at play and you could lose all your lives very quickly because the game respawns you in a bad spot. Nobody could get the Junimo Kart Arcade System legitimately back then. And I remember reading a discussion thread where people would come and talk about any secrets in the game. This was where I learned about the discovery of SUPER CUCUMBER TOWN DUCK MAYO SALOON STRANGE BUN TOYBOX and the big Junimo plush. I regret that I stopped playing the game after a while because back then you completed the Community Center you have beaten the game. So I didn't witness how harsh Grandpa used to be during the evaluation.

I do kind of miss the simplicity of the older Stardew Valley if Im honest. Stardew Valley as it is right now has an overwhelming amount of content. I cant even do the island stuff without feeling like Im completely ignoring the base farm, let alone try the content beyond that. It feels like it slowly shifted more into an "adventure" game and not a relaxing little farm simulator. Of course, thats my experience and Im likely in a minority. It doesnt mean I dont greatly enjoy and appreciate Stardew Valley as it is today. Concerned Ape is still one of the nicest, wholesome people around who always has time for fans of his games.

Not something too difficult but I can see why people didn't add mods as often. I made mods purely bc I didn't like the look of some animals and wanted to fix them. I know I "fixed" the goats to be cuter and it looks like I also fixed the brown cow, horse, dog, and rabbit. I saved the OG version of those files to my desktop in case I ever needed to put them back lol I did give someone permission to add my mod in a pack a while back so it might still be floating around on the new mod platforms that do it for you. If they are and people are still liking them then IDC if I'm not the one who uploaded that version. I made them for myself and just shared them in case other people wanted to use it too

As someone who hasn't played stardew since about 2016, this was a very funny video to watch. 90% of the things you're shocked aren't in there I'm shocked even exist at all. I'm shocked at how much they've added but in the opposite way this video was intended 😆

Super interesting to watch this, as someone who played Stardew Valley while it was 1.1!!

10:05 I assume it tries to force the item into your inventory like a chest rather than spawn it and drop it on the floor, I'd assume it doesn't give you a menu if you have room in your inventory. This was interesting, I think I must've first played during 1.1 or 1.2 (edit: checking the update history it looks like it was 1.2.31) as a lot of what's missing is familiar and it's always something I don't remember when you clarify that it was added in 1.1, e.g. romanceable Shane/Emily, but i especially remember the ui scaling with the zoom level

It will never cease to astound me how much has changed. I'm not entirely sure when I started playing, it was a little bit after release. . .I remember when quartz still had quality. When various items couldn't be stacked. There are SO many things we take for granted. Dinosuar eggs used to be near impossible to find, now I can usually find the first one halfway through the year. People forget multiplayer was a HUGE thing the community was waiting for. ConcernedApe would give fairly regularly updates on its progress as more and more people anticipated it. I do kinda miss the pause time while fishing.

This video definitely makes me feel old, I've been playing since 1.1 and everything you were surprised and mildly disgusted to find I was like "well of course that wasn't there!" I remember all the updates being added like the night market and being annoyed I had to find more thing to keep my save file as close to what I'd consider an early form of perfection.

Playing on 1.1 was great because when I came back to play 1.5 and 1.6 there was just so much extra stuff to enjoy

When I first played Stardew, the witch's hut had just come out right before I was ready to put the game down. Started a new playthrough a few months ago and for me this video is backwards; you're just naming all the new stuff I hadn't seen before. :)

Man, this really reminds me that I used to play Stardew Valley before 1.1. It was fun even before all the new contents added in later versions. Too bad I lost that save file since my old pc that I played it on had its hard disk fried.

I haven't played this game reglarly in at least 6 years. The newest update I remember even seeing in game is choosing your farm type! (I want to play but all by info has changed and Im locked out of steam 😭)

I only really played this game for an extended period of time soon after it released so I feel like I've been transported to the future watching this video, all the added stuff since 1.0 is new to me, except for stuff you can witness very early in the game
