I'd add Vasco to the list His 1 star in Aneutronic Engineering gives you an extra point of power to play with and his skills in Shield Systems and EM Weapon Systems make him very versatile and useful if your ship has a low crew limit.

Andreja's energy system skill not only boosts energy weapons but also boost the damage of the Vanguard Obliterator particle weapons that you can put on your ship after the second Vanguard mission making the weapon insanely good early in the game. Your energy weapon skill boosts it the same way. It only works on that particular particle weapon, it might be a bug.

Barret is the best companion for taking on raids , especially after doing the worlds apart quest and he gets his special powers .

Indeed, those are the best currently, hope the DLC bring more. I would just add Vasco, Andromeda and Amelia Earhart. Vasco have some decent overall skills and despite being bugged inside the ship sometimes, he's quite good early on and don't mind if you go the 'evil' route. Andromeda also gives a pip point like Vasco, so if you don't like Vasco because he keeps clipping through the ship, she can help, so paired with Sam and Omari, you get 3 extra pip points, quite useful if you don't go to aneutronic fusion skill, but if you do, you can get a total of 8 extra points to your reactor, but Andromeda and Vasco skill don't add up unfortunately. And Amelia have the second highest piloting skill, so she's like sam but without babysitting and with a bit less speed. Honestly I don't mind Cora, but I really don't like Sam, and Cora keeps going to the ship even without Sam, and that annoys me, hahahaha. I remember in my very first playthrough, after marrying Sara I decided to take the ship the Parents give and go fo a little couple exploring for honeymoon or something, but Cora decided it was a good idea to go along even though I never had assigned Sam to my ship, it was very annoying to reach Paradiso and see Cora hiding in the armory, hahahahahahaha. Really wish we could just say for Sam to leave her with her grandparent and stop being annoying, hahahahaha.

I ditched Vasco for Andromeda Kepler, also at Broken Spear. She's got the point in AF and won't get janky w/ Omari's Shield skill. Too many stories about the "shield bug".

My ship shield is over 4k not sure why but I'll take it I think perhaps the Star Eagle has hidden modifiers that increases it's base shield? My Star Eagle is only Star Eagle in name now , I have no parts from the original build.

Some of the most fun a person can have in this game is in assembling the B Team. As in, "How good a crew can we get without using anyone from Constellation?" Because reasons. Sanity saving reasons. Unfortunately, I have been doing battle with the Shield Bug (not the creature) which seems to be attached to crew with Shield skills. There's nothing quite like rolling out in a ship that should have well over 2000 hit points worth of shielding only to find out the hard way that it's more like 800. After reverting to an earlier save my flagship gets only the base amount of shielding (skills won't apply) and so I had to install a 1600 point shield generator and a Pinch 8A reactor for the bonus hull points to make up the rest of the difference.

Is it all your ships or just one? I was having a shield issue with one ship, no matter what I did I couldn't fix it, so I sold it. Thankfully it wasn't all my ships.

@@nywolf9798 Two ships, but my flagship is my baby, my magnum opus, my home, and my 1.4 million credit sunk cost. If I hadn't been able to get the shields back to 1600 I would have ditched it and built a new one but this works for now. NG+ isn't that far off.

@@ZerebusPrime I feel ya, it was my favorite ship also, my problem was a little different, I had no shields. Changed the shield, tried everything but nothing. And I found out the hard way, thankfully I had a lot of ship parts and a strong hull. 😄

Omari just disappeared from my crew list. Seen this happen to others but they say he is back at the Post in Akila nothing for me just gone and he was holding some good gear😢 Andreja and Jessamine are great cuz they give you "found" cash and Ezekiel finds rare ammo. Hadrian has energy weapon dissapation good for when fighting Va'ruun & Ecliptic they run energy weapons alot

Make sure he's not still somewhere on your ship. Unless you land at akila after dismissing him. He will still wander around the ship

Amelia+Omari= the perfect replacement for Sam. Amelia gets you the speed boost and Omari gives you an extra pip as you said which can cover Sam's extra engine pip. The reason I mention this is because as non-constellation members they have the HUGE advantage of not complaining about your actions. Also, Jessamine is the perfect Andreaja replacement as she also gives you free credits and doesn't bitch about anything and has a cool backstory if you chat with her.

Best companion is the Adoring Fan. Zero morals, zero consequences for your actions. With Sysdef as an enemy, you can't board their ships without being bitched at later, for example. It really sux that all of them are good or good aligned adjacent.

Do we get the combat perks in the crew or must we take them with as a follower?

Since Sam died in my first playthrough he hasn't appeared in any NG for me, so Emilia is a good replacement to get the speed and you get her at crucible. Also a pilot at the mars bar that you can get from the start if you don't have Sam and you're not ready for the crucible. I forgot her name, she's very sweet and also is good for outposts. And I no doubt enjoy this kind of content. The ship stuff has got a little to merge glitchy for me 🙂. I also think it's very helpful, the game is very confusing

I didn't realise the second new game plus wasn't a guaranteed normal universe, but your character died. I'll be cutting back on the merging for a while, going to be finishing off the base ship reviews and doing some other helpful guides.

@@CrimsonFlyboy Yeah I'm thinking if I didn't tell them I was starborn he'd show up, but I don't really feel like doing the beginning over, maybe next run through I will. He's suppose to show up after I get some shards but him or Andrea are MIA for me and never show up. I was wondering about using console commands to see if I could make them appear but I don't want to ruin the game. I'm glad about the less merging, I still watch them and like them to help your algorithm, but I like your other stuff much better, being on PC makes it so even if I liked merging without a controller way harder. I think guides will help your channel grow.

@@CrimsonFlyboy I actually tried a console command to get Andrea to show up at the lodge, which she did and it was going well at first and we had a nice conversation. But the 2nd time I tried to talk to her she was like who are you and thought we were back in the cave. So I actually went to the cave where I first met her and all the sudden everyone died and I was frozen in place and had to go back to a save before I brought Andrea back. Sucks thought I got her back, but nope I got Bethesda-ed

A really informative video. Thank you. Really appreciate the info on non-Constellation companions/crew. I tend to not use companions and if I do, they are non-Constellation ones. Sarah, in particular, is very touchy when it comes to "morality." I once hit a UC SysDef ship and knocked its shield down a little. You would have thought that I bombed an orphanage the way that she responded. I swore off companions and crew for the most part because of her and "Sniper Block" Vasco. Most people have appellations like "Mad Dog" or "Curly." Not Vasco. His is "Sniper Block."

like Lin The Const;;aton bunch wants to talk too much. Of the Constellation group use Sam. What don;t le s when they are suddenly livid with me and they don't tell me what did. I have to apologize just to shut them up.

I would prefer 0 Crew/Companions but you cannot do their storyline without them, making Lone Wolf -Solo perk absolutely useless. Starfield companions are worse than those in Fallout 4.
