I bought Starfield for $100 on Steam (before I realized you could get it on Gamepass for next to nothing), played for around 80 minutes, watched a few reviews over the course of a couple of days, including Quin's refund video, and refunded the game myself. I've played a few hundred hours of No Man's Sky, which is now a great game. The first time I saw my ship landing animation in Starfield my stomach sank because I knew the 'exploration' aspect was essentially nonexistent. I tried to get past it, but there were enough other annoyances that the game was absolutely a no-go for me in its current state. Talking to NPC's, looting infinite amounts of useless items to sell, and shooting tirelessly at bullet sponge enemies all while having no real sense of exploration unlike NMS has is just not my cup of tea. I was really looking forward to a No Man's Sky-like game with good combat. Starfield is NOT that game. I feel like we took a few steps back with this game. I know it'll eventually be good, mostly thanks to modders, but right now I can't be bothered. I'd easily rather sink another 150 hours into NMS than play Starfield. Parting Note: Two of my friends, who LOVE Bethesda games, have put about 20-30 hours into this game and seemingly already stopped playing it altogether. This game has no longevity as-is. It still needs a lot of work. If you're considering buying it, I'd recommend something else for now. This game release is about what I expected, but I had hoped for more considering it's a space game, which I love, but that's pretty much all it has going for it in my opinion.
