Let's be 100% honest. Bethesda has spent the last year polishing cut content. This wasn't a real expansion. Cut content isn't going to attract anyone who didn't love Starfield at launch. Fallout 76 and No Man's Sky received massive free updates to the base game. That's what turned things around for those games.

I disagree, I think people only like Bethesda games because we were children, and a lot of people is personality defined by Bethesda, not liking a Bethesda game for them is an identity crisis level event, It's pathetic. Objectively, BGS makes horrible games with great music and good looking worlds.

@@foxmulder7436 "New abilities" the same way the game has only 2 guns in the game with different skins. I say 2 guns because they all work the same regardless of how they look, there are no ballistics in this game, a rifle and a pistol work the same, so I doubt these "New" enemies are any differrnt from what we have already, they're just re-skins.

I hate that it's now "some cool stuff happened, it was awesome, shame you missed it". The museum talking about the war was well made, but it paled in comparison of living through it. Same with 76, there was high stakes events, but you're too late and just reading the leftover story from it.
@Teldarin

@@ashroskell The thing is, we as customers don't have to know shit about how hard it is to make a videogame. You want to sell us a product, want our money for what you create, so you better make it worth the player's time and cash. That's how the market works, or should at least. Imagine you go shopping and try on a jacket in a store. You don't like it and hang it back, but then a worker shows up and complains about you not liking that jacket and how hard it was to make. It's ridiculous.

@@Teldarin : Exactly. The practices we see now are simply not tolerated in any other industry. Imagine buying the car of your dreams; all the whistles and bells, self driving, dripping with computer screens and nav devices; an office on the road, whatever, only to be told the STEERING WHEEL is actually DLC and, “We’re still working on that.”!?!? The company would collapse overnight or scramble to get on every available outlet to let the public know it was a one off, “rogue,” incident and not going to happen to anyone else. “We fired the individual responsible,” etc. But video games are getting worse by the day! In the discussion about hard copies versus downloads I used to repeat the slogan, “Own the games or the games will own you.” Now look! We DON’T, “own,” the games now, MUST be online to play them and they get ALL of your valuable data, which they can sell or lose at their own pleasure! We just don’t fight hard enough collectively. And it starts with a, “Broken Windows,” approach in my view. People like Emil should be slammed for his remarks; shown how empirically WRONG he is in countless clap back videos and DM’s, ruthlessly mocked for his passive aggressive disdain for gamers and probably should be fired! We tolerate people talking down to us like naughty children, so they treat us like we’re not responsible enough to manage our own cash and data. Honestly, I shouldn’t be so, “passionate,” about it, but this guy truly sickens me. He’s everything wrong with gaming CEO’s, writers, senior staff in general: Entitled, patronising, ignorant, bad at his job, and fundamentally WRONG as well as wrong headed.

Bethesda saying they spent 7 years developing Starfield is like me saying I spent 3 years building the ikea wardrobe in my spare room. You really would expect them to take the time to add an ounce more of anything to flesh out their game with the reported $250M budget?? Wide as an Ocean, deep as a puddle. It's what Bethesda has lived by and lived up to more with each passing Decade. Devs have become Older, richer, less motivated. It's all just staring us all in the face.

67d 21h 55m sailing the blackest sea (Xbox). I started following SF when I think there was only 3 sources on the internet acknowledging its existence. Checked on it every few months or so. Despite addressing flight very little, we ALL held hope that we could fly our spaceship. And when we found out there was no atmospheric flight, it broke all our hearts just a little bit. Whether we want to admit it or not. Starfield taps into the magic of spaceflight, but removes flight. Experiencing that “marble” turn into a world beneath your feet, that’s flight. Fighting the greatest force in the universe and experiencing that world turn back into a “marble”, that’s flight. Burning across the surface, taking in all the flora/fauna, slipping through the terrain, checking your outposts or objective with a bird’s eye view, maybe a little airpower to soften the target, pulling a sweet thruster drift move, and touching down nice and soft. That’s flight. Mechs, POIs, story, melee movesets, kill cams, lack of quality control with mods, unstable mod system, large cosmic events visible in space that draw you to those far away planets/systems triggering investigations to the cause, radio stations, large scale enemies and engagements, bad AI, etc. These are all moons orbiting the problem at the core. SF taps into the magic of spaceflight, but removes the wonder of flight. I still like the game obviously, but that one thing is always there. Catch a smile out there. o7

I can fix Starfield. But they don't want me to. Here's what you do: You need a full continuous jet pack flight; without loosing boost or just a tall falling simulator. That's stupid. You need a radio full of alien like hype music. E.T. Katty Perry, Alien Ant Farm, Post Malone Ect. You need planets that are hand crafted, smaller and traversable without the YOU CAN'T GO THAT WAY nonsense. You need to Stop randomly generating only 3 different bases to assault the Mission Board Targets. Mix it up. You need at least 50 different unique weapons and same number of spacesuits. Star travel needs Giant warfare simulators where we fight not just 3 different ships in an infinity of empty space where you can't even exit your spaceship and spacewalk outside into deep space and just jet pack around like Superman flying through the cosmos without a stupid ship that is more of an obligation that you must sit in, rather than a useful house. You need thousands and thousands of ships that I can choose to hail and participate in the massive space wars in deeper jump systems is a desperate data removal intentionally designed by Emil. You should be ashamed. And After fighting the whole army's during the shallow space systems, you need giant octopus 🐙 Cthulhu monsters that you have to shoot of of high speed chasing and then engage with in target locking to shoot it's arms or tentacles to kill it. There a fun game. I can do it. Emil can't. Give me his house and money.

What is this "mix it up" thing you speak of?? I'm curious, I only play Bethesda games and I'm not familiar with branching quest lines or differing dialogue to make an appropriate response. I have unprecedented freedom to do whatever I want, and wherever I go and everything I choose doesn't make any difference in the world or the characters you meet, everyone in the world will keep the exact same response to your character outside of some random guard dialogue that keeps track of your bounties. Bc that is the thing with Bethesda, apparent secret magic is always present when it comes to tracking crime or some mailman delivery service, or a settlement that waits patiently to be attacked right at the same moment you arrive. How about going into that Nord crypt to discover that High Elf Windilious using Phantom potions to scare people away only t o take his notebook back to the Innkeeper and hear him exclaim, "what a fool I've been this whole time" _ Alright cool, I set this place straightWEEElll only to hear in the next second the Innkeep tell Lindley to " I want you to stay away from that place, I promised to keep you safe.." Dude?? What did I just give you, in fact you're still holding it in your hand... jus why....How can you make a game this nonsense????? 🤦‍♂🤦‍♂ All I know is Illusion of player choice and written or spoken lore that is referencing cool, places, characters, or things that aren't in the actual game. Exc-( Giant Blue Ghoul Whale that can sink ships? Granit Hill?? Morrowind had heaps of stuff I went exploring for bc Todd said a lot of hidden stuff you can look for by listening to NPCs conversations and the like. Well that's kinda true but mostly just a lot of talk that leads to nowhere. Those Oblivion pirates in the cove inside that cave under the castle that speaks of their huge hidden pile of treasure??? waste of time.. I only know of basic loot you can find and receive as rewards, The same exact weapons or armor mind you but with different random stats. Remember the legend of Red Eagle? So frikin cool to read that book and receive a secret quest only to turn out to be one of Bethesda's horribly generic ghosts with the reward being the same ugly rusty iron sword you can loot off of the hundreds of Draugr you've fought. Lol🤦‍♂️ Wow, Bethesda, no please never bother to change, I wouldn't want you to put in the work to make your games actually make any damn sense or feel exciting outside of the opening 20 minute outside World reveal. Keep making half baked quests with no real intentions of going back and retouching anything or adding in one or two different dialogues or real unique items as quest loot rewards. nahh, just keep having fun with your inside joke of a dozen types of cheese. Ahhh that never gets old and is where your priorities should stay kept.

Like how Bethesda hyped the civil war in Skyrim but clearly cut a vast majority of what they wanted to get into the game. That’s fine. What’s NOT fine is charging 30 dollars for something that was clearly supposed to be in the base 70 dollar purchase. This felt more like something that should’ve just been a free drop.

I don't think they should've made it free. They need to a financial kickback for developing it, after all. However, I do agree it shouldn't have been $30. If the expansion was $15-$20, I feel the conversation around it would've been much different.

Shattered Space may has the map size of Far Harbour... ... sorry, I'm out of positive comparisons with Fallout 4. It's a DLC for/with House V'aruun and you're still forced to be the same boring dull morale-drunken goody-two-shoes, still mostly the same 'New York and San Francisco people in space' NPCs with the same 'just shoot me in the face' appeal as Disney's Star Wars characters, Andreja still competes in terms of world integration with Billy from the fridge, even less gameplay expanding items than the F4 workshop expansions, no unique ship parts (ffs!! what the heck??) and a few mostly re-skinned weapons and like 5 attires... I paid around 80 bucks for main game and add-on, played about 470 hours total - so it was definitely worth my money (e.g. shipbuilding was a genuine blast). Though as a Skyrim and big(!) Fallout 4 fan, I really lost my faith in BGS to ever get a gritty murky gory mature long-term-captivating RPG again, with an open world letting you discover new locations and details and ways even after thousands of hours playtime. I lost hope for TES6, and especially all hope for Fallout 5. But at the end I have something very positive to say about Starfield: it cranked my love for Fallout 4 on a 0-to-10 scale from 9.2 to 13.7 - mods not taken into account. That's something.

I would give it a 6/10 and no where near as good as the trailer or interviews would suggest. The main problem for me is the really weak writing. House Va'ruun did not deliver and did not feel believable. They just re-used old ideas. "You are the listener", "You are the chosen one" and a badly copied version of the houses of Dune. One of the main choices is to sacrifice yourself for the faction. If you do that you just get a white screen. No message. No epilogue. No nothing!!!! You are just looking at the screen confused, not believing what you see. How can they give you a choice for an important ending and then NOTHING HAPPENS !!!! I still can't believe they were too lazy to write one of the endings!!!!! 30 USD when the quality is this low is way too much.

long dialogue is kinda what killed base starfield for me. You had 3 really shitty long boring quests back to bck and a lot of talking or reading. First you have the quest to buy the artifact, this at least has some combat, but is mostly just talking and walking, the one interesting part breaking out is ruined by being told how to escape without letting us figure it out, the sale was shitty as it's supposedly 3 ways to complete, but it's 2 ways to give the exact same answer, "We have done X, your better off taking the deal and leaving." or the third one wich is worse, where your give the same answer as above, but treated like a baby for wanting to kill the guy. Then you have the 3 groups quest, talk talk talk talk, walk around, talk talk talk, walk around then talking and instead of trying to solve the quest, your given the answer like babies first quest. Then you have the go find the wanderrs home wich again is a lot of walking, but instead of talking you read. It was so stupid, can't remember if these 3 were all at once, or if some quests between, but doing them all in a row one after the other with only break being space travel and maybe a quest, so I could beat the game in a day really just made them worse. Least in skyrim/fallout 3 unless rushing through the main quest you can go kill enemies along the way, but here the lack of exploration kills that. There was no motivation to have fun elswhere, as there wasn't any beyond more quests, and if they were as bad didn't feel worth it. Starfield feels like they took out all the good stuff, "loot, exploration, fun features." and just left in all the stuff people hated. Even fallout 76 and 4 for their issues were fun places to explore and find cool little atmospheric stories and places to loot.

Those two things usually add up to a buggy mess, that's going to take years to fix. Now they've come out with a $30 expansion, that's only worth, maybe, $5. 4 hours of playable content, with nothing else new added to the game, feels like buying the horse armor for Oblivion. It's cool for about 30 seconds, until you realize it adds nothing to gameplay, only a reskin for your horse.

Always nice to see a lone video popping up. People like to give bethesda flack for the creation engine and call it outdated. I really think that if the writing was good everything else would click and we wouldnt have conversations such as these so frequently. Take a game like BG3 (minor spoilers for act 3): The "evil" choices you can make in act 3 are mostly convenient ways - shortcuts - to achieve your end goal, while the "good" choices are the ones which involve careful planning to outsmart the villains without killing too many innocent people in the process, because at that point in the story you are on a proverbial leash. Its frankly weird how a d&d game out of all franchises handle this type of mature choice and consequence better than most other games in the market, specially considering d&d is often regarded as the entry level tabletop game for people that like hitting stuff. Thats the kind of scripts I daydream seeing in a bethesda game, because the framework the game is built upon could easily allow for that.

The fundamental issue with both the base game and the dlc is the writing. They did it all bass-ackwards. They wanted to create this, “1,000,” planets and built a world without knowing, “who,” was going to be IN IT. And they even gave up on that in the end, when they ran up against the enormous technical difficulties, hence the loading-screens-hell we got instead. You’re supposed to have a great story that you want to tell! In a world populated with great characters, a cool protagonist and excellent villains with a legit weed up their butts! People get hooked on NARRATIVES. It’s how the brain is wired, as part of our evolution. We survive by gossiping, sharing, “stories,” about people in our communities, telling our own story and bonding within these groups. Stories are hard wired into our very DNA! The great games get this concept, where people want to stay in the, “world,” and keep playing, because there are real stakes at play. Look at John Marston and Arthur Morgan in Red Dead? Look at Geralt in The Witcher? V in Cyberpunk? The Tarnished in Elden Ring? Back when Rockstar cared about Red Dead, their DLC was Undead Nightmare. Unforgettably funny, irreverent, yet still scary and a joy to play! The Witcher gave us Blood And Wine AND Hearts Of Stone! Massive geographical expansions of Geralt’s physical world, built AROUND NEW CHARACTERS to tell their STORIES. Phantom Liberty! Again, opening up a whole new area of the city as the BACKDROP for the new CHARACTERS in which to tell their STORIES! Shadow Of The Erdtree is considered one of the best DLC’s ever made! Compare and contrast. And to those who say it’s about budgets or time I offer you Exhibit A) Robocop in Robocop: Rogue City. A gripping protagonist, at once both terrifying and cool AF. That game had a lot of jank in it and the facial animations were only moderately better than the cruel affliction of Zombie-Eyed-Resting-Face that Bethesda decided was, “good enough,” for a triple A experience. Robocop is a double A game with a quadruple A experience for fans of the original movies, or just people looking for a fun shoot ‘em up. And the reason it’s so good is because the makers of that game RESPECT the player’s time, RESPECT (and clearly LOVE) the source material and, above all else, had a great STORY to tell! A story that is not childishly predictable; not insulting to the intelligence of the gamer; not offensively trying to be, “inoffensive,” and with plotting and characters that make perfect sense in that world. The internal logic is not broken by people doing irrational things just to keep the quests intact. You don’t find yourself asking questions all the time like, “Why haven’t you even BOTHERED to explore your own homeworld if you’re all meant to be the universe’s greatest explorers?”!!! If you don’t have the story to tell, you don’t have a video game. Not in this genre, at any rate. And the, “writers,” of this game NEVER grasped that. Emil Pagliarulo said as much in that infamous Power Point presentation he gave, in which he said words to the effect of, “Why bother with plot, quests and story, when players will spend 20 hours building the perfect base, or hunting for special equipment?” He was referring to the Fallout franchise at that time, but it’s obvious he believed people would be doing that in Starfield. Hence the mechanics for base building, which everyone ignores! I have uninstalled the game and regret losing valuable time to this franchise, which I honestly feel is way more cynical and exploitative than people credit it as. You touched briefly on the cost of the DLC and the Creation Club nonsense. But that should be a source of public outcry! We’re normalising this exploitation because it’s relentless and we just don’t have the collective energy to fight it off! I hope Starfield fails and flops completely because that’s what it deserves. But, if video gaming culture has taught me anything, as Clint Eastwood put it in Unforgiven, “Deserve’s got nothin’ to do with it.” ‘Blam!’

When I think about Dazra...what does that have to do with Shattered Space? Space would denote not on the planet. Maybe the original DLC was not Dazra but a different faction.

If you liked Starfield - then it's a good game with a whole faction intentionally absent. That makes the game 1 worse, and 2 $100. Imagine if the institute was $30? Imagine if the Empire was $30? Buncha bs.

I enjoy starfield a lot but playing older stuff especially NV, made me realize how insanely shallow the dialogue and world building are.

It’s almost like if you let a development studio produce games for DECADES that are glitchy and buggy, and people just call it the “charm” of their games, they will continue to produce garbage and not learn a damn thing from its customer base… go figure.

I thoroughly enjoyed the DLC. Finished it in about 41 hrs. I did all main and side quests and activities. I ventured to all of the POIs. I loved the storyline. But I love a deep story with several options for dialogue. The characters were cool with awesome tattoos and accents. I liked the weapons and armor/clothes even though people griped about recolors. It's nothing new. I loved the music as well. I gave it an 8.5/10. I had a few performance issues on Series X. I don't get the hate.

My main issue is there is no missions to replay to stay on varuun Kai once you do the main and side quests your pretty much done. I’m upset that once I started doing the quests it only took me a day to complete everything far harbor had a lot more to do so them claiming this dlc was just as big is a flat out lie, I like this game but I’m finding myself relying on mods to keep myself immersed and having fun I’m basically turning it into a different game and that’s a shame.

The DLC, in my opinion, is a solid 7 out of 10. But I'm just very confused about what people thought this DLC was going to be. It's not going to rewrite the entire game. Elden Rings DLC is just more of Elden Ring, Phantom Liberty is just more of cyberpunk, and shattered space is more of Starfield. Did people expect this to be a brand new game?

Not only is the expansion garbage, so is Starfield. Bethesda should keep their focus on Elder Scrolls and Fallout (not including Fallout 76). They are losing their way, horribly.

@gamewizard1760 Don't know about that. I liked what they were reaching for and the lore was cool with starfield... but the execution wasn't there. Felt like they wanted to make the game much bigger than it ended up feeling, which was empty and devoid if life - not literal life, but the characters themselves feeling lifeless

Considering from Bethesda from the past we were given: Shivering Isles, Mournhold, Solstheim, Dragonborn, Point Lookout, The Pitt, All of the New Vegas DLC (even though that wasn't Bethesda) and Far Harbor. This is just an absolute disgrace from this company. If all they wanted was a story expansion, they should have just released it as a free content drop. Bethesda DLC and Expansions are "more of the game," yes. But they always added something new and fresh to the game. New interesting characters, cool weapons and armor in droves new locations to explore and discover and sometimes a story that adds something to the game or wraps up a loose end in a character's story. Shattered Space only does 2 of those things in characters who aren't very interesting and locations that are just filled with generic pirates that shouldn't be there in the first place. The story is disconnected from the main game because there is no story in the main game. And the one character they could have had a loose end with, (Andreja) doesn't offer ANY quests or colorful commentary on her own faction's misfortune. Only a few occasional quips that nobody else even talks about ort she gets mildly upset with you if you choose the ending that screws over Va'ruun. Nobody wants to pay 30$ for lazy game design in an already lazily designed game.

I expected new game mechanics. Longer to complete, more space ship habs too. New companion to the level of the main 4. Any of that. Andreja having more impact, like nick valentine in far harbor. It took them 1 year to come out with this, they charged $30, and it has the least value for the money charged. I think Bethesda takes no head of the feedback, in fact they actually gaslight over it with the steam review responses. Instead they trudge along doing “their own thing” and losing fans.

Bethesda needs a complete restructure at this point if they want to survive. Emil should have been fired long ago, along with a lot of other people. Now that bgs is union they're never getting rid of those people.

Also just addressing some mistakes in this video: There is unique weapons in both base game Starfield and the DLC, although they are already existing weapons with unique names/effects/skins, and in the DLC there’s only 2 with 1 only being obtainable after completing the main story and the other requiring you to get a specific ending in a sidequest and then kill a named NPC The DLC being dialogue heavy isn’t really unique to this DLC, you mentioned you haven’t played the main game in a while but the amount of dialogue in Shattered Space isn’t really any different to the main game And yes, you can get the heirlooms in the Fang quest although personally I think expecting the game to give them to you upon completion considering the plot of that quest would defeat the entire purpose of that story.
