Great video! But there is one magic topic, or rather, a magic spell that could use a bit more in-depth explanation is the 'Summon Creature' spell from the first alien archive. I have a player in my current campaign that's rolling as a pistol wielding witch warper that uses summons. I eventually bought premade summon cards from the Starfinder Infinite store because the book doesn't make creating the stat blocks intuitive.

Thats a tricky one. It gives all the stats of the monsters and abilities to choose from. I covered it more i depth in a different video I just dont remember off the top of my head which one, might have been leveled spells

I still have the occasional brainfart about them even though they are literally in the names, but your caster level is your level in the spellcasting class, and the spell level is in which of the 1-6 level spell slots the spell goes to for your class. At least I'm pretty sure I got them right this time 😅

I'm 99% certain the 'bonus' spell chart go to extra spell slots and does increase them. Spells known simply remains spells known. I think you got that backwards. Other than that great video

Ya, verbal and somatic components would be a rough standard in this setting. Take the Contemplative (giant brain with atrophied body) for example, it’s a player race that dislikes using their mouth to talk and has pretty weak limbs.

Also casting spells in the vacuum of space wouldn't work. Would be like a constant sphere of silence in 5e. Lol

When it comes to magic, I let the PC's decide what it looks like. Divine Caster's make their holy symbol shine or darken depending on alignment and preference. Psionics typically manifest bluish aura and arcane has the greatest diversity but once they have a theme its kinda like a fingerprint. Its expressed their own unique way even among mystics of the same tradition and mentor. I typically make it a tell if the being is capable of casting without any light or obvious movements they're obviously high level. Their practice and mastery has allowed them to finer control. In comparison to someone obviously incanting and tracing sigils in the air.

I let invisibility and vanishing trick be cast without being noticed. But I allow a skill check to see if it was magic or not.

I haven't had a magic caster yet but maybe I would make a special perk that allows them to silently or quietly cast lower spells, like anything under lvl 2 spells. Something I have also thought was what type of spell or maybe just mind controlling spell are able to cast silently

When you first mentioned no stealth casting, I was kind of disappointed about that mechanic. However, I got to thinking, and it would be kind of like shooting a gun, or crossbow. Ppl around you are gonna notice something that powerful and deadly for the most part. Just my way of justifying it. Seems silly to not have stealth cast options, but even with a suppressor a gun is loud, so I guess it works.

Where did you find the variant rule you mentioned about cantrips and getting stronger? I don't see it in the base rules anywhere in the core rule book, and then I listen to the video again you mentioned it being a variant rule. Is that something you came up with or is that something you found in a later book?

Since this is a video about magic I have a question that's been constantly on my mind. In terms of access to spell list is a class like the Precog only have access to the precog spell list or do they have access to the other spell caster spell list and does the same apply to the other spell casters? I could be overthinking it but I just want to be sure

I know what you are getting at. Starfinder works slightly different from other systems in that the caster type is associated to a spell. Each class has a list of spells they can access but the same spell may be cast by 1, 2, 3, even all the classes.

@@TheMapleTable Oh okay so if I'm a precog I only have access to the Precog Spell list but there will be some spells that are shared between all or some of the other spells casters spell list is that what I'm hearing?
