Hearing General Pepper shout at Fox to fire on him to save his people and to let him die in battle and keep his honour made my respect for Pepper shoot WAY up. He's a true patriot whose willing to die for his people. As he was being assimilated, I can imagine him actively defying the Queen's attempts to assimilate his mind while shouting defiantly"I will never bow to you, foul creature! Starfox and the people of Lylat shall wipe you from the face of universe like you deserve!".

awesometacular in the beginning he did wanted to kill him (Star Fox 64) but ever since he was defeated he noticed that fox was the only one that can give him a real fight.. so he decided to keep him around cause he's his only competitor.

After defeating General Pepper Peppy was able to call in the medical corporation and General Pepper will make a recovery in the hospital.

Ever since the Aparoids flew in and the falling out with Pigma, I like to believe Wolf and his team developed a sense of honor as a mercenary squad. They’re still criminals and always willing to try and take Fox and friends down a peg. But when you really need them, their willing to step up and play hero. Especially if they get something out of it!

Maybe they should’ve left star wolf to be the ones to shoot down general pepper. Because I feel given their initial relationship with star Fox as foes, they’d probably delight in giving Pepper an old dog fight. As you saw in the cutscene where pepper requested to be destroyed, Wolf was much less hesitant in telling Fox he has to do it, almost as if he delighted in that given that Wolf always wanted to take down star Fox.
