Great video! Including the pictures of the trees when you got them was helpful . What was the Black Pearl fruit you ate @2:19? That looks interesting to grow (and eat).
@TropicalCentralValley Жыл бұрын
Thank you. Yes, that was a Black Pearl Wax Jambu that I ate. This video is from several years back. My tropical fruit forest has since expanded greatly.

It only gets better as the trees mature.

Your using your saliva to wash it!!! That was wonderful!!!! Epic man good answer. Just bought a seedling. Quick question dose this get root rot if too much water like papaya???
@TropicalCentralValley Жыл бұрын
Yeah, sorry about my dry sense of humor. I’m not sure if your question is concerning wax jambu or starfruit trees, but both can get root rot if planted in a non-draining soil. This really does apply to just about all tropical fruit trees.
@mauriciodiaz1310 Жыл бұрын
I'm sorry I bought a starfruit are they seseptable to root rott
@TropicalCentralValley Жыл бұрын
Not sure if this helps, but starfruit trees are no more susceptible to overwatering issues than any other tropical fruit trees. For the most part, the notion behind root rot is a new phenomenon when nurseries started growing the trees in organic growing medium (such as compost and wood based potty soil). If you are able to amend your soil heavily and ensure the roots of the tree has access to plenty of oxygen, they’ll be fine.

Hello, I loved your tropical fruits… are you selling them?
@TropicalCentralValley Жыл бұрын
Thank you. Unfortunately, I do not sell any of my tropicals. If you are nearing the Los Angeles region, there’s actually a good number of tropical fruit tree nurseries there. Additionally, I know there’s a number of online nurseries that ship, though, your state may have restrictions on certain plants and trees.

If you’re nearing the Los Angeles region, there’s actually a good number of tropical fruit tree nurseries in the area. Here’s some videos I did touring some of them: Champa Nursery - Spring 2022 Tour kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWKQcpednJp3gbM Emily Garden Nursery - Spring 2022 Tour kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZ-Ue3efr5Kln6M Mimosa Nursery - Spring 2022 Tour kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5eyfoKJqNp6f9E

Good morning , Thank you for the fast respond, we are located in the Modesto area, LA is a little far for me.

I know of a few nurseries near that Bay Area that may carry some tropical fruit trees, but suspect their inventory is limited due to demand. It may be worth a days trip to Southern California and visit some of the tropical fruit tree nurseries. To me, they’re like Disneyland for adults.

I am inspired by your orchard. Where do you buy your seedlings?
@TropicalCentralValley4 жыл бұрын
Specific to starfruits, the majority were purchased from Mimosa Nursery in Los Angeles.

It was a Black Pearl wax jambu. One of the most refreshing fruits in the world.

Whats your spacing on the trees in the front yard? I have 13 ft of space between one of my banana plants and shed and it was thinking of planting it between the 2 and keeping the tree pruned to no more than 12 ft.
@TropicalCentralValley3 жыл бұрын
Pretty small, about 500 square feet. My trees are feets apart.

Wax apple 😍 my tree died over winter last year in Sacramento. Where did you buy your wax apple from?
@TropicalCentralValley4 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear about your wax jambu. Two of my smaller wax jambu trees also succumbed to the 2019 winter. The larger ones were fine. I bought most of my wax jambu trees from various tropical nurseries down in Los Angeles.

Tropical Central Valley Do you have June Plum?? If yes, can you please make a video on how to care for it? From soil, feeding, and what do you do during winter in your area. A lot of videos out there is with little information. Thx!!!
@TropicalCentralValley4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, I skipped out on the June plum. I may get one in the future. From everything I read about it, the growing condition is similar to any typical tropical tree, requiring slightly more acidic soil and frost tender to 30-35 degree. Sun requirement though, is a different story, as our Central Valley (including the Sacramento region) is often too intense for many tropical trees.

Nice! I grow tropical fruit trees in my garden. Do you sell plants?
@TropicalCentralValley4 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Unfortunately, I do not sell them. I do, give them away though. Yesterday, I gave away some of my lychee, jackfruit, guamuchil and cherimoya seedlings to a nearby subscriber.
@jennyjenjen16332 жыл бұрын
@@TropicalCentralValley no way, you had guamuchil?! I want one of those so bad. I never see the fruit here and the one time I did it was $20 per pound 😔
@TropicalCentralValley2 жыл бұрын
I agreed, the fresh fruits are quite expensive. Luckily, the seeds have a very high germination rate and best of all, if grown from seeds, the trees produce fruits quite quickly.
@kamit60364 жыл бұрын
How do you protect all these trees during winter?
@TropicalCentralValley4 жыл бұрын
I actually do not protect many of the tropicals. I do, though, protect the ultra sensitive ones, such as the soursop, Mamey sapote, santol, rambutan, miracle fruit, etc. Those, I do shelter when the weather drops below 40 degrees.

Why my star fruit tree bloom with a lot of flowers but no fruit?
@TropicalCentralValley3 жыл бұрын
Assuming the tree is of maturity, it may need more phosphorus and potassium. I’d liquid feed it with some organic fertilizer high in those elements. One of my younger star fruit tree too had tons of flowers, but as it was still a bit young, it eventually dropped the flowers but fruited the following year.

Any other part shade fruit trees you recommend for an area that gets afternoon 4 hours sun, morning filtered sun ?
@TropicalCentralValley3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a candidate for a green sapote or a starfruit.

Hi, i just bought 2 star fruits trees about 5-6 fts. Im in Stockton area Central Valley as well. Its been in the 30s at night... where do you recommend i sld put this? Would outside be okay?
@TropicalCentralValley4 жыл бұрын
I have 4 starfruit trees growing in the ground and 1 in a container. I don’t protect the in-ground starfruits. If yours are in containers, to err on the side of caution, I would put them in the garage when the freeze hits and take them out during the day time.
