This was a pretty bad problem in Gottlieb System 3 games, but never acknowledged due to the special feature being long over before the song distorts.

Nope. It just keeps going off into the abyss, as it’s just taking a brief sample and the code is endlessly telling the sound board to repeat it at higher and higher pitches with no limit. Eventually, the sound board can’t take it and it becomes what it sounds like near the end (a jumbled mess that doesn’t sound at all like it started)
