Been loving watching SG1 along with you. The entire series honestly has the most incredible balance of seriousness and humour. I reckon the cast and crew get more confident and comfortable with the characters and character directions as the series progresses as well. You get dem feels as the series goes on, man :P

Tbh, the only time that balance goes wonky is series 9, but they bounce back after. Honestly can't wait for failwhale to get into the later events of the Stargate continuity :D

One of my all-time favourite episodes. I'm a massive alternate-reality fan, it's always great to see different versions of the characters and settings. I don't know if you noticed but the big SGC emblem on the wall in the meeting room had been changed to SGA, although I don't know what the "A" stands for. Anyway, fantastic reaction, as always!

I always thought the solution was for Daniel and the rest to go to the beta site and Daniel could dial to the mirror planet from there. But of course we needed more drama.
@betsyknox4745 Жыл бұрын
I was just about to say that but as you say we needed the drama.
@brigidtheirish6 ай бұрын
And the civilians probably didn't think of the longer route while under so much pressure. Especially after O'Neill said they wouldn't survive long enough to dial *anywhere.* So they couldn't get another group of refugees through, thus sending him to the beta site seemed pointless. Not to mention them not wanting the Goa'uld to know where the beta site is. There's too much of a chance of the enemy being in a position to see the address. Oh, thought I'd mention one problem I *do* have with the episode. That the little robot they send to check that worlds are safe to explore apparently doesn't have a way to measure radiation.

Sliders was a good like proto-multi-dimensional show. Before, we mostly saw time messed with in shows, not so much dimensions. I mean, dimensions happened, but not nearly in the frequency it would post-Sliders. I think people really realized the potential of multiple dimensions, because you don't have to worry about time paradox stuff.

Much like time travel, it can be done really well or it can completely ruin a story. With Stargate I think it's done well.
@JarvisBrodie4 жыл бұрын
I would say so too! Plus, when you think about it, there are Alternate Realities can be a lot better than the Prime Reality. For example, from the current perspective, one can imagine life in the Alternate Universe being totally different from what life is today. In which case, (without getting too political) there would be no Donald Trump as president, no COVID-19, Transgender Hate Crimes would be much lower than they are now, just to name a few. You see what I'm saying?
@csgamer892 жыл бұрын
@@JarvisBrodie There's also the possibility that you'd end up in a real bad alternate reality, but I agree with you otherwise. The rewards outweigh the risks if you ask me.

@swolf7122 жыл бұрын
Actually, funny that you asked if this was supposed to be part of the movie canon... Roland Emerich and Dean Devlin's original sequel plans apparently involved a scenario very much like this, where there was a retaliatory strike on Earth, with a third movie being a final all-out war between these aliens and the nearly-conquered humans a la the one that originally overthrew the "Goa'uld" on Earth. Not sure if it's coincidental or intentional that this ep was sorta like that, but it's interesting.

A couple of years ago I had a medical issue and my doctor told me to go to the ER. Once there the triage nurse asked me why I was there and I said I had an issue with my bowls. She asked, "What is it?" and I answered, "It's a long tube in your belly where your food goes, but that's not important." The look on her face slowly shifted from surprise to delight and sha said, "I can't believe that happened! It turned out her boyfriend had shown he a movie she had never even heard of, Airplane! just the night before. Now that is great timing! I saw the nurse later telling others what had happened, then as I was leaving she was outside talking on her phone to someone telling them what had happened. I'm betting it was her boyfriend.

The thing is they essentially already lost their reality... all they could do other than help Daniel is try for revenge
@craigescapeddetroit51984 жыл бұрын
Sadly, the "finalé" conclusion to this episode is delayed until they resolve certain situations first. But they put everything together really well and tie up the loose ends. In between now & when they go back, some things happen that are cleverly incorporated into the "conclusion", and it is Brilliant, amazing, very well done (as always). I will say only that season 2 has many great adventures that prepare things for the conclusion, and when you finally get to the conclusion you will see the fantastic reasons why you had to wait. If you skipped ahead you would miss so many foundations and you would not know the full story. There would be too many unanswered questions that take away all the fun. So take it slow and it will all make sense.
@DaDunge4 жыл бұрын
9:50 Well yes and no, Daniel could dial the world with the mirror from the Alphasite. So really they could go along with their evacuation plans, really there should be no argument. Striking back at this point is useless anyway.
@RipOffProductionsLLC8 ай бұрын
There's also the fact that the address in question wouldn't have worked anyway since it was for the Gate onboard one of the Hataks, and thus disconnected from the network(or changed addresses?) when it moved due to the shift in location.
@Rikard_Nilsson4 жыл бұрын
9:48 is it really a hard ask? Option 1: You strike at your enemy in a futile last move that accomplishes nothing of value to you in pure spite, while also dooming another planet. Option 2: You save an entire planet from the same fate as yours. I think the choice is pretty easy.
@robertmartin90294 жыл бұрын
Sadly it isn't that easy. After all of the losses that the inhabitants of the Alternate Earth have experienced the decision is going to be heavily influenced by their psychology rather than "simple logic,". While it is logical to make the decision to save another world rather than make a futile counterattack, for someone who has been through the trauma of watching their world be destroyed it would be extremely difficult to do anything but make that attack in an attempt to get some sort of revenge. We can see similar results today where many people are ignoring logic in favor of decisions that are psychologically more satisfying, even as it is killing thousands of us daily.
@GermanLeftist4 жыл бұрын
@@robertmartin9029 It's not about logic, it is about doing the right thing. The morally right thing to do here would be to help others instead of exacting an act of revenge that is definitely going to fail anyway.

Why didn't they evacuate everyone to the beta sight then they could nuke Chulak and the destroyer's world from there as well as send Daniel home from there?
@Hawkcam19962 жыл бұрын
Daniel was being really selfish in this episode. He could’ve just evacuated with the people of that Earth and *then* went back to the mirror from the Beta Site, but instead, he convinced them to give up their only chance of escape for the *chance* that he’d save a different Earth.

This episode always rubbed me the wrong way. I mean they've got that mirror and an open gate connection. Why weren't they preparing to take as many people through that mirror as they can? I mean they'd be safe. They aren't saving anyone outside that base anyways.
