What gets me here is that Jack is playing Daniel's role, even though he's never been outwardly enthusiastic about Daniel's perspective. But here he does his damnedest to deliver Daniel's point, stepping up on the ethics grounds because Daniel set the standard, and isn't around anymore to maintain it.

Yeah, but one thing, Jack is explaining how basic deterrence works. This is already well understood on earth with our experience with the atomic bomb, nuclear weapons, and the study of nuclear war theory. It doesn't sound like the people in this world had their own atomic or nuclear age. They look like they are about to, except that instead of atomic weapons or nuclear devices, fission or fusion bombs, they are developing something far more powerful. Imagine the movie Oppenheimer, except is Nauquiah bomb resesrch(or whatever this clips calls it) instead of the Manhattan project?

I think Jack admires that part of Daniel. He respects that he continues to remain optimistic(relative to him) and continues to try and see the best(to an extent) in people.

@@AdeptKing I think Jack also respects and admires that Daniel hates backing down when he knows hes right, and that stubbornness is what broke though Jacks walls and how they not only became friends, but has gotten Jack to see that Daniel WAS right on many occasions. Even tho Jack doesnt like to admit it, he understands that Daniel DOES know what hes talking about and that when he makes a point and becomes a pain in Jacks ass, that he has a very good reason.

one thing i always thought - in the original Stargate, Jack has lost his son. Along comes a character literally named "Daniel Jackson." Jacks. Son. Maybe Jack sees Daniel as more than a friend and coworker, but as his son. And here he is, losing his son all over again.
@RealFrinata
@RealFrinata Жыл бұрын
While I think it's a bit of a stretch, Jackson being a fairly common last name, I do think it does help to signify a bit more of a relationship between the two. During the original Abydos mission, Jackson believed they were there for exploration, where as O'neil (Spelled with 1 L and not as funny) was there to assess the military threat, and even further unknown to everyone else, had no intention of ever coming back, not because he was staying, but because he was looking for any way to die without it being suicide. He couldn't live with the guilt, blaming himself for Charlie's death, even accounting himself as to be blamed, thinking he effectively murdered his son. He told no one, not General West, not Catherine, not even Kowalsky, who was his best friend at the time. The only person who managed to find out was Daniel, and not only did he help Jack come to terms with what happened, but saved his life as well. In season 1 or 2, I forget which, there was an episode where they were 'brainwashed' into believing Daniel had died via being dragged into the ocean by a fish creature, and it basicly destroyed Jack, because he was unable to do anything about it to save Daniel, and now here in Meridian, where it's the same situation, but this time he can atleast make an attempt to try and save him, and he's even fighting Hammond, the man he respects the most. Hell I'm pretty sure if Thor showed up to make an excuse, Jack wouldn't of played nice with him either, and Jack basicly is the most polite to him out of everyone

Seeing this scene again it's not hard to see why Jack was so hard on Jonas at the start on Earth. Yeah he came clean eventually but he didn't at the time and Jack is quite a harsh critic, especially when it involves his friends lives.

It's cause of Jonas coming clean at the end I feel that he gave Jonas a chance rather than take a Russian officer on SG1 he was giving Jonas a chance to prove that he can make amends for dragging Daniels name though mud to protect his people's stupidly

Very true. I will say two things in Jack and SGC's defense though. The Earth built Naquadria enhanced warheads were safer than Kelownan style weapons as they relied on tried and tested technology (regular nukes) enhanced with Naquadria, making them much less unstable and unpredictable. Earth generally used Naquadria bombs to level a playing field not to escalate conflicts (I say generally as clearly they were used in escalation vs the Asuran homeworld). Earth's enemies already possessed weapons as powerful or more powerful than Naquadria bombs.

@@CyberJellos Why naive? He is right, the only way to use a weapon of mass destruction as a deterrent, is by using it at least once against an enemy. Now imagine what happens if a Naquadria bomb is detonated on a planet full of highly unstable Naquada and Naquadria deposits. Big BIG Badda-Boom.

Well, by that point, they figured out that naquadria is just too unstable to use for anything other than a one-use bomb. The reactor aboard the Prometheus overloaded within 20 minutes of use and with that kind of potential devastation if it went critical, it's not like it would be approved for deployment on earth. At the time, it was thought that naquadria had the generation potential to power up shields and hyperdrives, but eventually it was determined that the material just has too many wild cards when it comes to sustained use.
