She was a fantastic character and an awesome addition to late SG1. As much as a lot of people bash the final 2 seasons because of the Ori storyline I find Daniel really shines in these last 2 seasons and with Vala being a great addition, I actually look forward to the final 2 seasons when rewatching. Also, Vala's first appearance taking over the Prometheus in Season 8 is one of the best episodes in the entire series. "You're a fruitcake!"

The ori were a great addition to the show as well. If I'd have any complaints, it's general Landry that's pretty much boring and a downgrade compared to Hammond, and that recurring idiot scientist guy that I personally can't stand. He's not a character, he's a stereotype they keep beating like a dead horse.

I'd completely forgotten about Vala's trick with the ring transport and the Jaffa reinforcements. It's absolutely brilliant writing, making use of Vala's personality (rogue archetype) and her history with the Goa'uld, as well as using the ring transporters in a way that's well-established in continuity. I miss when Scifi shows cared about continuity...

@rcslyman89292 жыл бұрын
My problem is, why didn't Teal'c think of that? Or at least start moving toward the rings when she made a comment about reinforcements?
@HellbirdIV2 жыл бұрын
@@rcslyman8929 The reason Teal'c didn't think of it is that Teal'c isn't like Vala. He thinks in Jaffa terms, even this late in the series; probably thinking about how to ambush the Jaffa chasing after her. He's spent like a hundred years learning how to fight and kill, not sneak and steal. It's Vala's personality (the "lovable rogue") that makes her think of something unconventional like using the incoming Jaffa reinforcements and the double-sided energy transfer of the Rings to sneak inside. Considering her history it makes a lot of sense - her first appearance in SG-1, she infiltrated the Prometheus by tricking them into using the Rings to get her aboard!

I agree with you. As an example, the show "The Expanse" could have been the new Stargate but the writers turned it into a soap opera for personal drama. Science fiction needs awe and discovery to challenge human sensibilities. The Expanse had it all and blew it off for drama, politics, and LGBTQ.

Oh when sci-fi had less CGI and so much more quality....
@pwnmeisterage3 жыл бұрын
CGI was still a complex and costly thing back then. An intersection of math and code and science and media and artistry, plus an avid interest in the details of how tech things worked on and under the computer screens. The domain of skilled and knowledgeable people with real passion for their work. They took pride in their craft, they strived to produce consistent quality, they were also driven to demonstrate computer effects could be better than the physical effects dominating the industry. These days CGI is just another career option. Too many people choose it just for the money. And most people do not possess the natural talents and learned skillsets of the innovators. They just model mediocre copypasta which (to them) is "good enough" for the show. And they always scale things up up up way past eleven to hide deficient quality behind epic quantity.
@SynchronizorVideos3 жыл бұрын
Stargate used a LOT of CGI and VFX. They were quite good for the time, and contributed to the overall quality of the show. But the excellent writing and cast also helped make it a great show. CGI is a storytelling tool, and it's only really bad when people rely too much on it, and phone in other aspects of the process.
