Since i know there might be FireAlpaca users here, and i might as well help since its not mentioned: -To adjust the Fill Bucket tools, when you select the tool, on the top of should provide a list of options for the bucket. -The "Expand () pixel" option is the FireAlpaca version of "Area Scaling". -The "Refer To" options are also named "Reference ()" on FireAlpaca, in the drop down, select "Canvas". -In the same heading called "Window", select "Reference" to get a window of whatever image you would like to use and use it to reference and collect color pallets. Also, just a personal preference, for every different color i fill in, i usually make a new layer for it, and put the colors in a folder. But, just my idea though ^^

Hi, I have dysgraphia but wanted to draw for so long. I can't do anything but stickmen on a piece of paper, but I was able to do a little bit of vector drawing using Inkscape. That being said, I really wanted to learn digital art at some point. Between parenthood and work, it wasn't easy, but I asked my wife for a pen tablet for Xmas. She got me the one I wanted because she's awesome, and I've been trying to draw since Xmas. I was able to do more than I hoped, but still was terrible at character design. Thanks to your tutorial I've been able to make something I'm pretty proud of, even if it must be lacking a lot for a pro eye. Thanks a lot, you really helped me a ton ! :)

Additionally, if you go into the Auto Select or "Magic Wand" tool, selecting an entire color to change the palette can also be done by unchecking the "Apply to connected pixels only" option. Every instance of that color occurring will then be selected.

I know this wasn’t intended but I think you just convinced me to jump to csp. I’ve grown up using Photoshop for graphic design and procreate was my first ever drawing program, and from how the tool layout appears it seems like a marriage between the two programs turned up to an 11. This was an awesome tutorial and this video has now cemented itself as a core memory in my art brain toolbox. You honestly make learning these techniques really fun, I’d love to see more of them. This is great helped make csp less itnimidating to try out. ALSO a tip for people who want a bigger refernce window or multiple refs without needing to droptool the colors: PureRef is free and compatible with linux mac and windows. it allows for different useful options like overlapping the pics, changing the size of the pictures and the window, setting the window to overlay or always on top. Very cool . Ps: no one ever look at how i put all my downoalded assets (half being useless because i went overboard) in the same sub tool folder.... so many...

This is far and above the most helpful guide on this type of coloring I have come across, especially since it is Clip Studio focused. Thank you so much for putting this out! I have noticed that "This isn't so much lighting science based" appears to be your code phrase for "this is absolutely lighting science based". In almost any book I've read about lighting, that actually goes into the physical properties of light, bounced light and it's fall-off effects are explained in great detail and complexity, and are shown to be the factors that make lighting look "more realistic" when we are rendering. I point this out at the risk of sounding like a jerk, but all I am trying to say is that it appears you are doing intuitively what I had to read a book (a few books actually, and probably a fair share of videos) to even comprehend. Your presentation is excellent. Again, thank you!

I'm Buchi from Nigeria. Seriously, it such an honour stumbling on your KZbin channel today to see the content you have created. Thank you for that. I'll go straight to the point. I have been struggling with lineart, painting or colouring my art for years now. I can't really find a good video ( like a detailed and a step by step video) that'll help me; even if it's a single video that I'll use to achieve this. I love your art style and the way you do your colouring. Seriously, it'll be humbling to see you reply me despite the fact that your engagements are tight. I sincerely can't wait to learn and paint/ colour with your instructions before next year ends. I just graduated from university and very eager to build portfolio for myself. Please, I'll be to your credit that I get my hands on this. Please, just know that I'm ready to work day and night to make this happen for me. Please, help me.

Hi! Thank you. I am a long time user of CSP and my greatest struggle is coloring. I've focused a lot on lineart and now I'm decent at it (read: I mostly always like what I do), but coloring is my bad spot. I love the process of filling the lines up like a child with a marker, but the lights and the color transitions are never good enough. I sometimes give up on digital because on paper it's easier. Today I used your tips and for once I got a good piece, and I'm satisfied with it. It is a long journey on accustoming on things and set preferences, but I'm glad I've seen your video to start this all. Thank you very much

Another thing you can do if you have characters you draw a lot and need to access their pellets often is use the Color Set window to create your own pallets! All you have to do is go to the color set window (usually is with the color wheel) and click on the little wrench icon. Click the "Create new color set" option and name it. The set will automatically be added to the list with the default sets already available! Then you will be met with a grid of transparent squares and all you have to do is select a square, use the eye dropper tool to get the color you need, and click "add color" (the icon with the arrow and square) or "replace color" (the icon that looks like a tear drop with a plus) And add the pallet! Doing this means you can have all of the pallets you could need already in your program for you to access in an instant whenever you need them. You can also export and import color sets so you can save a back up of the sets to your computer or transfer the pallet you already made to another person or device. Hope this helps!

Fantastic video! I see a bunch of things I do in a more roundabout way, so i'm very excited to streamline my process further with these tips, thanks a bunch! For CSP users the following tools are so, so useful! 1759448 (Literally anything from K96 in the asset tab) you set your lineart (i haven't tested if it works with a folder set as a reference, so tread lightly) as a reference layer and you just circle around your image on a new layer under it and it creates a flats base for you! How i achieve dynamic colours and vibrant shading in CSP without knowing anything: Step 1: use a dark purple on linear burn and clip to the flats (multiply doesn't shade linearly) and move the opacity down to where it looks good to you (i normally think 55% is good for example. turn it back to normal and back up to 100%. make sure you are done with shading as each time you need to correct something you have to do this all over again. Step 2: Copy the layer and paste it in top of the first one. turn it to a non- clip layer. it may look stupid and sloppy. its fine, don't worry about it. clip a new, blank layer on top. Step 3: In the new layer, bucket fill a vibrant red-orange of a MID value (you can go lighter if you need to, but its important to be substantially brighter than the first shading layer in value and saturation). merge the two. Step 4: dark purple layer back to linear burn. Orange layer goes to colour burn. take the amount you determined and make both % equal to it (so if using 55% you may want to use colour burn at 20% and linear burn at 35%. eyeball it, and experiment!). Dynamic but really cool colours that go together: Step 1: WHEN YOUR PIECE IS DONE pick a vibrant, high saturation colour that is a variation of what youve already used in the environment, or the light source, or what the light source would make the shadows look like, etc. Step 2: Above every single layer except maybe your branding, or signature, or promotional material, make a new layer. take your colour and just fill bucket. turn it to OVERLAY and hit somewhere between 5-25% depending on the scene. Step 3: take another, slightly complementary colour that is also in the piece, do the same thing. Step 4: maybe do somewhere between 3-5 of these. play with the order of the colours, the percentages. one of these colours can just be your favorite colour too, iunno just play with it, make it cool and fun and everything. change layer modes, delete certain parts if you don't want a specific portion to be tinted with a specific colour. Step 5: like really experiment. like, maybe you want to make your shadows multicolored. do it! maybe you want all of your pieces to have a cool red tinge to them, do it! Its really all about what looks good to you. the dynamic colours impact every single colour in the piece to tint them similarly, creating the effect that all of the colours go together. don't let one layer mode do all the work for you either! Also please understand that even if a program names layer modes the same thing, they may not function the same way! each program has its own way of processing colour and info. I hope this is a help, I've been doing commission work professionally for a few years now and only just recently have i discovered a way to do this!

25:13 The science is called the "equator" I'm pretty sure. It's the darkest part of an object being hit by a source of direct light. It's the edge that is facing at a right angle to the direct light and has no other source of light as strong as the direct light to add brightness to it. People often, incorrectly, call it SSS (sub-surface scattering). You correctly knew what SSS actually was haha.

Good tutorial. There's actually some theory behind the shadow outlines: it's the core shadow which is the darkest part of a curved surface - the relatively thin line is the part that's most turned away from the incoming light... the neighboring shadowed parts are curved at a different angle and catch more scattered light. Of course this does not have to be at the edge of the shadow but it's a stylized version of this concept.

Thank you for this! Was having trouble with the gaps. I feel embarassed to not know the fill gap with surrounding colors tool😂 also the adjust line width tool while the character is selected is smart !

8:57 ...I actually learned a different method from a friend that might be better. Take the fill lasso tool, take a color, I use green as in greenscreen. Lasso around your character, just a big circle or very ruff around the character. Now, take the bucket and set it to transparent, tap on colors outside the lineart so it goes away. Now you got a "base" layer. Make a new layer and color with the bucket as usuall. When you are done, select all on the Ink layer, go back to color layer and erase, now, select all in the base layer, go back to color layer and go to filter > Correction > Adjust line width and choose thicken and then crank it up to maxium. You might have to repeate. Vola, no white gaps. Now, how could this be better? First of, all the steps you took with adjusting to linewidth...never have to think about that. If you had drawn with a pencil to get a pencil look, I would imagen not all of the native settings would not work as well. This method will work for all kinds of lineart.

Shading and coloring is only thing I can’t understand. Because the so many layers get me so confused and give me high anxiety. Thank you for the advice

I'm used to use lasso fill. But I'll star to use the fill tool and the tips you showed. But for the shadows I still think lasso fill is better.

I'm late to this for sure, but I've been finding this really helpful! After a year-long absence from Clip due to college, I've been using this as a tutorial to un-rust my digital art bones. I'm definitely missing some of the nuances, but it's super helpful to follow this at my own pace. And it super feels good to find all these optimizations to the process! I always knew I wasn't utilizing Clip to it's proper potential, and this is really helping me fix that! I've got a long ways to go for sure, but I thank you for helping me along the way. You're a life saver! I'll be sure to read the entirety of Castoff to thank you for your help :)
