For me they are such beautiful beings. Our pair comes back every year to nest at the same place. They got an intelligence that we as humans don't yet understand. They keep our garden in balance and bring such joy to our hearts. Much love from South Africa.

I have a starlings nest above my bedroom window. They are driving me crazy but I love birds. I'm willing to put up with a slight bit of annoyance at 5am every morning if it means they have a place to raise their chicks.

Us too. I can watch them go in and out of the vent hole in the facia from my bed. I'm wondering if she's laid the eggs yet.

Oh my gosh, look at their MOUTHS! I had to look this up because I have a starling nest on my house, under the ridge of the roof on a pipe. I hope they survive! I can't believe you got such great footage!

Staling chicks are huge when they fledge, they're bigger than their parents. I have a photo of a freshly fledged starling chick having his parent's head in his beak while he was fed near my bird feeder.

Yes, they need bigger nest boxes than the smaller birds. This is filmed in a 20x20 cm wide and 35-40 cm tall nest box. They can be terrorized by magpies if the nest box is too shallow or small :)

in 2020 my mom was taking a nest out of the overhang of our house so that she can seel it up not realizing that there was 4 baby starlings about 3 days old in it and so we put them in a bin and waited for the mom to come for them but she never did and so I raised them and the last day we had them one died but the other three made it and they left but they stayed around my backyard for a few days and I miss them now 😭

is it completely open at the top? or is there a roof?

The camera is placed in a compartment underneath the very solid roof, so the cables and camera are dry and hidden. I carved a square for the camera, and put the camera + strips on it so it stays in place :)

I am almost finished building my starling bird house . Mine is way bigger though. Its 36cm wide, 50cm long and 39cm high at its peak. Is that too big?

Hi Jeremy :) Nest boxes can be built in different ways. The important thing is to build it so that magpies or cats can't reach the nest or chicks. It it a big best box, but the real test is to put it up and see if they use it! :)
