Many will consider that this case highlights three real matters of concern, the real intentions of government re "free speech", the incompetence and/or dishonesty to be found at senior levels in our police force and the intellectual qualities of those who enforce the law at the "sharp end" ("victim”, not "complainant"). The authorities will know that people will be cowed by the fact that, whatever the outcome of a case such as this, the punishment is in the process and so, we are headed towards the very dark place that they wish to take us. All this too at a time when official statistics suggest that the fitness for purpose of our police regarding real crime is on the decrease.
