I truly believe if the Locals are a total wipe out they will move against him. The guy is not a good leader, he dodges all the important issues he's got removing the whip. He seems to forget one thing MP's are there for the people not for the party so that blows wide open his "Country 1st party 2nd", MPs can cry a gallon if they keep supporting these policies they will be kicked out in 5 years, Most of them have reduced majorities and it only takes Tory/Reform to do a deal and Labour have a serious problem,. This seat used to be 21k its now under 1k. 200 people have quit the local party and these are long term members, That's 200 less to go out doorstepping etc The guy is not a good leader he's terrible at reading the room he might be well educated but common sense is totally missing.

I’ve worked for 40 odd years(im 62)as an installation and maintenance electrician. Where I’ve crawled on floorboards, in loft spaces, in ducting and chopped out brick work and plaster. At times manually intensive. But around 2015 I started to have issues with arthritis. Then circa 2019 lost my job on the grounds of capability due to arthritis in my toes, ankles, knees, hands(fingers of both hands) and more recently lumbar spondylitis(likely due in part to fracturing my L1 Vertebrae) . My mobility is limited as my ankles and knees give way. I can’t sit for to long as my knees lock. I can’t stand either for to long either due to pain in my knee and if I walk I can and have fallen. I have dropped mugs of tea/coffee, bottles and pans of boiled veg. Turning the kitchen into a battlefield. I’m currently awaiting to see a rheumatology consultant and an orthopaedic consultant over my feet which in all likelihood will require 2 separate operations. I’d like to see suits like Starmer work for a month in a manual job to see the reality of what manual work entails. NB arthritis is not the only condition I face….

It's a scam policy that kills 3 birds with one stone for the ruling class: 1. frees up previously guaranteed state benefits for policies that benefit them more directly. 2. takes away autonomy of those with no power to push back through punitive means testing, forcing even more people to desperately compete with each other for a shrinking number of job vacancies putting further downward pressure on wages (more desperate people are willing to take lower pay). 3. it breaks morale, and a sense of hopelessness means weakened political organisation. It's class war in slow motion.

Pretty much the same. I've only ever been able to get low pay, no pay, zero hours contracts or volunteering jobs that promised a job that was never real to begin with. Even employers or charities that are very "disabled friendly" aren't in reality when it comes to paying disabled employees what we're worth. The issue is that I can't find an employer that is willing to put things in place to accommodate my illness. There are weeks when I can't get out of bed and there are weeks when I can. I need an employer that can give me a week off at a minute notice because my mind has broken again. Think anyone is willing to take that on into their work place? Because I've not found them yet and until I do or until I receive NHS therapy, which I've been waiting for for 4 years now, I don't have a choice but remain unemployed. I want nothing in this world more then to be able to work again but no one is willing to help me do it. There used to be organisations that were dedicated to providing help with getting a job and providing ongoing in work support, working with employers. I worked in collaboration with some of these organisation abou fifteen years ago. As far as I am aware these sorts of entites lost their funding after 2010 and closed, to be replaced by the Duncan Smith's Work Programme that, despite lavish funding, didn't have much success and the companies concerned claimed money for every person placed in employment but, of course, in many cases this wasn't stable permanent full time work. As to in work support then forget it.

The way schemes to support people into work fail is that the workplace tends not to be flexible when an illness or disorder fluctuates in severity, so while some people can work some of the time, there are structural barriers (both administrative, and down to the perception of non-medical/non-clinical staff at either the employer or benefit admin level) that mean either people end up forced to work through pain and discomfort, or it ends up being easier to not work if the required flexibility and compassion is not present.

I have to add that PIP is not an out of work benefit in that there are no restrictions on how much you can work and it is not means tested; this is often lost in the discussion as the government and tabloid media seek to demonise disabled people. Also, a large number have to claim benefits while working due to poor wages, not that work should be a measure of your fundamental value as a human being.

One of the things that gets consistently overlooked in these discussions is how the great majority of those out of work have been paying taxes and national insurance for years, often decades. They have paid in far more than they've ever received and then get demonised for claiming benefits. It's disgraceful. It would be like paying into an insurance policy for decades and being demonised if you have to make a claim.

Different Party, same beliefs 🤔 This World/Country is Never going to change Until the people at the top Acknowledge the unfairness of a system fully geared up to keep the rich richer at everyone else's expense ! Bigger than this The country needs actions, not meetings that go nowhere, not words that sound like Blah Blah Blah How can we ever have a fairer system when it's only millionaires and billionaires pulling the strings and making the decisions. Have these people really helped the country and the people 😳 Still you can only blame us the people 🙃 Were not engaged, were not united and No interest in politics. We're all to busy Working, looking after the kids, paying the bills and taxes! Just the way they like it. Blah Blah Blah There is power in Numbers, if Only WE could find common ground, stick together and make the change. Throughout History People powered change, and then we get lazy and complacent....And so it goes Round and Round 😞 We are All Guilty of being Hypocrites at some time, but the systems these people built and build are Exemplary at Hypocrisies. Under-resourcing is also having an effect - employers expecting workers to do higher voumes of work for same hourse/pay. Its not uncommon to find people working their weekends to keep up, not taking time off in lieu or annual leave because they'll have a huge backlog to get through when they come back. Those people get pushed to their limits and in some cases their mental health breaks. Austerity wears away at and eventually unravels the social fabric. What is happening was predictable. It's a symptom. Starmer needs to mend the fabric, or people will just keep falling through the holes.

When I originally went onto long term sick it was because employers wouldn't tolerate me for being me, I lost so many jobs it was unreal, I discovered the reason was that I had Aspergers and my employers probably realised it was along those lines because they never fired me as such it was always some obscure reason that wouldn't hit them in the face further down the road (disability discrimination) . Since those 'wonderful' times though the arches in my feet have collapsed which basically means standing for long periods is basically a no no, I do work 2 days a week but there is a 2 days break between those days which gives my feet a chance to recover, also I should not my current employer is aware that I am autistic because now that I know I feel its important that they know. Starmer is basically doing a complete U-turn after years of bashing the conservatives for targeting the most vulnerable in our society he is now saying well actually lets get rid of the long term sick by putting them in a position where suicide could be a more viable option over either shit ton of pain or painkillers that often don't work or you need to see a doctor to get (yeah fat chance). I believe the conservatives buried the report about 5 years ago that showed an estimated 100,000 people on disability befit died either through suicide, lack of care or just generally screwed over by the then-new system. New new Labour have become Conservatives 2.0 the 'Hood Robins' that rob from the poor to feed the rich because lets face it we can't have billionaires going hungry and god forbid have the gall the ask them to pay taxes

Make jobs pay a wage that doesn't need the government to subsidise the business (I think its over 40% of UC claimants are in full time employment). Then talk about working for a living, rather than living to work.

Every time he is challenged to state what he believes, he seriously sounds like he’s never thought about it before, has never been asked about it before, and he’s having to work out what words to say and what order to say them in at the very moment they are exiting between his pursed lips. And usually he’s being asked whether he agrees with whatever right wing line the media are taking, so the first default words to come out are ‘well, look, of course I do…’ while his brain tries to formulate a vaguely coherent belief.

It's a scam policy that kills two birds with one stone for the ruling class: frees up previously guaranteed state benefits for policies that benefit them more directly, and takes away autonomy of those with no power to push back through punitive means testing, forcing even more people to desperately compete with each other for a shrinking number of job vacancies, putting further downward pressure on wages (more desperate people are willing to take lower pay). It also breaks morale, and a sense of hopelessness means weakened political organisation. It's class war in slow motion.

Unfortunately it isn't about what is best for people. It is what can make more money for the government and their backers. More people taking up poorly paid jobs saves money on benefits but the economy does not benefit as the people have no money to spend. The government needs to invest in Social Services, Health service and education and raise the tax threshold for the lowest paid

The terminally unemployed and ill and/or disabled, like you and I, need a union. We need to band together, like those in professional unions, to fight as one and express our position. Please reply if you think this is a good idea. I'm seeing a careers adviser next week, so I might put the idea to them and see what's needed to build an advocacy group for people like you and I. It would also have the benefit of giving purpose to our lives, whilst we struggle to get into work, or, deal with the possibility that we might never be able to work, and thus hold the government to account whilst they demonise people like you and I for something that's beyond our control.

@@africareigns Funnily enough, I'm a barrister by training (although sometimes I wonder if I should have done the LPC, as it was then, rather than the BVC; then again, it seems that both professions are difficult for many of us to access). I'm going to look into what it takes to start a small charity/advocacy group. Maybe it's a pie-in-the-sky fantasy, but I'd rather do that than beg again and again for the same employers to finally give me a job. If they don't want me; I don't want them. But by taking things into my own hands, I'll have control and some dignity, and maybe then they'll see what they missed out on. People like you deserve better. *At the very least* you deserve dignity and understanding, rather than being implicitly, or indeed explicitly, demonised and misrepresented by the media and political class. Like I said, the employed are supported by unions, but I don't see the same type of advocacy groups/organisations for the unemployed, and even when the unions do, to their credit, support the unemployed, their main interests still tend to be with their employed members. The unemployed are simply not treated as a priority.
