It's funny that had Trey's father not been so set on getting revenge, Trey would probably still be alive with his father in LA right now and he wouldn't have had all the pain that he has had in these past months, finding his mother/Connie and her saying all those awful things to him, finding out what his father did, watching his father die, almost getting Kristina killed, etc.! He probably would still be none the wiser about his father and still be living in happy naivety with his father! Though I guess it's not fair to assume that Trey would still be alive right now had his father not set out to get revenge on Sonny because anything could happen at any time! But he probably wouldn't have been through some of the pain he had to go through had his father not agreed to concoct that scheme! His father just couldn't let his hate and anger and need for revenge go and appreciate his life with his son! He had to just drag his son into all that has happened and drag Kristina and Jason and Sam and everyone involved, now he's dead, Trey's lying there brain dead without his father, Danny may never get to see his father Jason, Jason may never get to learn that Danny is his son, etc.! See what happens when you choose a path of revenge! A lot of innocents get hurt around you, including the people you love!
