Christie can sing and has a nice voice. Remember Mariah Carey was huge at this point and lots of people were voted on this show based on if they liked the artist rather than how close they sounded to them (I recall a girl winning as Whitney doing I Will Always Love You who couldn’t even sing in tune).

As quite a fan of the programme, it was a good edition. Three very strong acts and two pretty good ones. The Marc Almond bloke should have won. He was strong as a performer and his act was well choreographed.

Garry Sneddon, who performed as Marc Almond is a friend of mine. I used to work with him at Sky and was in a band with him for a short time as well. He's a brilliant and funny guy. Skuksy is right, he should've won.

While she is a sweet woman and all, this is actually a great example that the phenomenal Mariah Carey cannot be copied. EVER. Nevertheless, I somewhat prefer this show to Xfactor for it is harmless and sweet and the "contestants" don't need to WIN. It all about having a "star moment".

I love, love, love Stars in their Eyes. A little anecdote from my past, in 1998 I was on University Challenge (Bristol, we got to the quarter finals and then crashed out to Bangor. I still have the VHS tapes if anyone knows how to upload them, so you can have a good laugh at a very young me, I wasn't very good!) Anyway, no word of a lie, Jeremy Paxman had a sore throat and we had to refilm the whole sorry tale for it to be shown on TV. But! Granada realised it wasn't our fault and put us up in a lovely hotel until Jeremy was better. It was about a week. We enjoyed Manchester, the ship canal, the Curry Mile, but mostly we hung around the Granada studios. I was lucky enough to see Matthew Kelly running down a corridor in one of his big coats, then we all watched Stars in their Eyes being filmed. It was far more interesting than University Challenge! I also stood next to Russ Abbott in the canteen, and got chatted up in the green room by Roger Lloyd Pack (he said "You have very lovely shoes". I was so embarrassed, because I had a slight crush on him, so all I said back was "I got them in Birmingham!"). Happy days indeed.

Hi, could anyone please help me find 1993 Episode 2 please, I was Gloria Estefan it was the show with Dusty Springfield, Lionel Richie, David Bowie, &Kenny Rogers who won the show :-) I've seen it on KZbin but now can't locate it, a friend had posted it, under the title Heather Thompson(my name), he might have added "from Amble", and the frozen Screenshot on the start of video was of two men with beards (Not Me Haha nor Matthew Kelly) :-) Hoping a kind person can help so my children can see it, thank you in advance, with hope xxx

Hi Stephen, I was lucky enough to manage to obtain DVD versions from a company that holds archive Granada TV material - it was a long time ago (I've forgotten the company name) but if you do some Google searching you should be able to get hold of it - they charge a small fee and they send you the episode you are seeking on a DVD. Good luck!!!

Erm...Mariah Carey was shit lol..? Easily the worst and sounded nothing like her. Mark Almond or Elton John should have won. Both sounded like their act mostly and with a few tweaks they would have sounded exactly like them.
