This is proof that no matter how good you are at something - anything - it's vital that you continue to practice. Their visualization technique, while seemingly strange, is vital and reinforces their skill, confidence and trust in each other. You can never over-practice, in fact it's a continuing and never-ending vital routine.

Watching them chair fly reminded me of a professor in college. She was a pianist and said every time she had to fly out of town, she'd close her eyes and "play" the piece on her lap , heading out in her head. Pretty awesome.

When your life and the lives of your buddies are on the line and the lives of civilians if you crash then you give 100 percent focus - and you have millions of dollars of aircraft at stake.... it is a once in a lifetime opportunity to fly with the Blues and there are hundreds of others who would like to take your place - much respect for these best of the best pilots - I always enjoy their airshows. I fly a remote control F/A-18 C legacy Blue Angel - it brings back good memories of seeing them at airshows.... my top speed is over 100mph and landing is on a 400 ft paved strip - it does loops, rolls, inverted, Cuban 8s - all the basics. May your skies be blue and your winds calm.

So impressive. You are looking at the top of the Navy Pilot food chain here and that includes the Hercules pilot as well. I"m sure the Thunderbirds do something very similar but equally strange seeming. I didn't know they had a spring added to the Super Hornet control stick but i can tell you that is one precise airplane after watching these things fly i think it might be a better show than the F18 Legacy.

It's not so much the debriefing jargon that get's me although it be weird too, as the other jargon they use before the run-through. Not in this video but in the new documentary you get to hear it. I know there's a purpose but it eludes me. At any rate, the discipline is amazing. It vaguely remindes me of some of the SDP training from the Marine Barracks with all the word cues and ditties to learn the movements.

For me, the Blue Angels are so much more impressive in the air shows than the Thunderbirds. Seems like their jets are more impressive and they get closer to the crowd than the Thunderbirds. I lived on the 33rd floor in a high rise in downtown Chicago and they would get so close I could actually see the pilot in the cockpit. I hate to say it but I would only watch the Chicago Air and Water show when the Blue Angels were the headliners (they and the Thunderbirds alternate every other year).
