Starsector 0.95a VIC & Nexerelin - 44 Mods - Let's Play #1 - Factions, Ships, Challenges and More!

It's time for a new run of Starsector this time as part of the Volkov Industrial Conglomerate. This is an extremely modded run with all kinds of goodies from additional factions to new ships and weapons all the way to new challenges lurking around the corner. One great thing about Starsector is that it is an incredibly moddable game with a dedicated community that is hard at work building more to help the game continue to grow beyond its vanilla content. This will be a Nexerelin based run, so there will be a lot of inter-factional conflict. But what remains to be seen is just how far I can take my own fleet.
Also, you're welcome to comment with requests for officer or ship names. Thanks again for you all's support for the channel, and I look forward to bringing even more content in the months ahead.
Starsector is a very moddable game, and if you are familiar with the game there are always mods available to take your game further. Below is the list of mods I am using for this run (note that I have allocated 6 GB of memory to keep this stable):

You should try Magellan. I love that faction, their ships are fun. Particularly their fast destroyer. And their weapons have a lot of flavor to them.

fantastic, I have a few mods I took into it(industrial expansion, and QoL improvement mods) and just unlocked the gates yesterday. It allows me to easily travel to my two colonized systems.@@AsherGames

idk if it's just me, but in the first planet, the screen becomes very flashy, and it hurts my eyes, pls try to fix that, if it is indeed something it can be fixed

@@AsherGames have you considered turning on officer permadeath in the Nexerelin settings file? It's only a chance to die but it might make the officer pool a bit more interesting, especially later on when you've got the best max level officers and the roster is just static.

I haven't played in over a year, but with 0.95a out (and me being able to afford games now) I'm a little overwhelmed by the sheer amount of mods and not sure where to even start (again). I used to run just a handful of mods, but seeing 44 kinda blows my mind. Great vid!

Since SSeth's review of the game, I am thinking of buying it. I Since I already have Kenshi and X4 Foundation you might tell that I enjoy long games with seemingly nothing to do.

Thanks. I'll see about packaging it all together in a one-stop download if there's enough interest. I'm kind of surprised there was no combat here, but I didn't want to take on that space station. Otherwise, there was literally nothing for me to fight. Not even pop-up pirates. That's going to change soon though. Hopefully.

Keep an eye out for the VIC Nightmare. It's a phase frigate with bonus time dialation, teleporter, and front line Large slot. On one hand, it's fragile as hell and it's CR tanks a ton every battle. On the other hand, it's like an early game doom and will last well into cruisers, particularly with phase based traits and a high-ex laser. Also, while VIC doesn't do many carriers, it's super fighter is pretty damn amazing. Less so now it's weapons aren't energy.

@@AsherGames As a high-risk high-reward phase ship I doubt the AI will use it particularly well, but maybe you'll get a good one.

About halfway through the video so apologies if you've already picked it up but the bottom skill which restores d mods is a really nice way to make a salvaged fleet workable whilst exploring as the repairs take place in the background, can also be useful to sell some unwanted scrap for decent money over time.

Thanks for the tip as I always appreciate seeing them in comments. I leaned pretty hard on that Industry skill in my last play through and I'm a big fan of it -- even in the face of other people shouting from the rooftops how strong derelict contingent is. Fortunately, now that I can go all the way up to level 30 it should be much easier for me to keep that skill in my build.

This game, especially with Nexerelin, is such a great game. It has such a cool concept, and great devs and a great modding community. But I have a really hard time getting into it. I've played a ton of challenging games before, but I haven't played a game quite like this. There's something about it that just makes me feel lost. Hoping some videos can help though! Do you like other sandbox games? E.G. Minecraft, Ark, No Man's Sky, etc? Some people just don't care for games that don't directly tell them what they should be doing, because it's easy to get lost in it.

Ironically I'm really iffy on a lot of sandbox games, but I think Starsector brings me back to this MMO called Starport: Galactic Empires I played the hell out of when I was younger. They have a lot of similarities, so I get a strong nostalgia pull towards Starsector.

It's not something that I'm trying to make a "thing." Sometimes I'm just joking and that's how it is. But oftentimes I misread things or my brain puts letters where they aren't supposed to be. A lot of viewers would be shocked to know just how many words I've learned I've screwed up just based on the comment section going "uhhh, did you mean?"

it's possible? when I was testing it with task manager open it was only using 2GB but those were not long play sessions deep in a save file

If it lags a little bit in huge battles then that is okay, as long as it's playable.
