@@drearmouse9510 I've spent a few to get officers but I'm likewise saving up for my colony admin just because I think it'll be a way to fend off invasions if I need to. Alternatively, I'll use them to salvage a paragon or other awesome ship! Interestingly, it might be worth spending them early to get the XP buff because even at max level, you still earn story points. So you are effectively spending story points... to get story points. The only difference being that you get your core skills faster.

Little advice, you can hold 'S' key to slow down your ship, instead of toggling sustained burn back and forth.

Partly it's a habit from playing RTS. It's to make sure they're still moving along the right trajectory until I resume autopilot. You'll see me forget to click sometimes also and my fleet just hangs around a second until I remember to move them.

It's amazing to me that a group of like five devs have made one of the most in depth and cool space games I have ever seen. With a budget that is tiny. Meanwhile Star Citizen couldn't make a decent game with a quarter of a billion dollars.

FYI It really is more like just one dev who has worked on this game for years. I think he commissioned other programmers to help with stuff he might not have known as well like the OpenGL stuff (LWJGL is a terrible engine IMO simply due to the fact that there are virtually no resources...)

Why would you "leave stuff for later"? Those were caches. You can just pick them up. You can't pick them up any better, whatever gear you have.

I leave them sometimes in nearby systems or systems with jump gates in order to spawn easy missions. For distant caches, you're right. You might as well pick them up and clear them off the map if you don't want to revisit the star system. I also leave debris fields because I often don't need the scant metal from them, but if I ever find myself in need of supplies later, they are a good emergency stash.

I don't think it's in any tutorial. I found out about it from the patch notes. The Galatia academy might mention it??? I don't remember it there though either. It is a nice addition.

Hey i played it a bunch in the eve, not gonna spoil anything, just a tip. Dont be supa supa careful to spend story points, if u can like salvage a good ship do it ;) U get quite alot.Some to keep are good.

yep, I've been holding for a ship to salvage, potential colony threats/boosts, and any "oh crap" moments where I have to flee. Seems good to spend them liberally since they also generate XP which leads to... more story points.

I am pretty sure that in 0.95 you can go straight through hyperspace storms and asteroid belts by toggling between Sustained Burn and Going Dark (to go slow for storms/belts). Enough of the micromanagement avoiding storms already. (Edit: I see you know this "go slow". Take more supplies for heaven's sake and depart the Core having topped up from the closest shopping depot to your remote destination.)

yeah, the "go slow" mechanic is still a little strange to me because how do you "go medium"? You can go slow without going dark by pushing the "S" key.

@@WadeStar you don’t go medium, only slow or normal. S just cuts burn to 1/2 of normal burn (without sustained) which gives terrain bonuses and storm/asteroid immunity, thus Moving Slowly. You Move Slowly, go normal speed, or go Sustained Burn.

@@WadeStar so far I haven't seen anything new, but I can have overlooked something...Hard to tell so soon after the update.. But I have noticed it is much harder to make money lots of money...but that is a combination of the new skill system and that the areas when smuggling is heavily guarded 😅

@@ohe8491 In some ways smuggling got a bit easier because the fleet Ai is easer to lure away. In vanilla smuggling could be a non-starter around some colonies because the patrols were impossible to get past.

I wanted to say I really appreciate that you take the time to explain what each skill is and why your picking it, I hope to find you'll do the same with ships and weapons. As someone new to this game it's hard to stay engaged with other content creators because they already know everything so they just click through and rush around.

Honestly my ship choices in this playthrough (and most of the time I play) are for variety's sake. I want to try my next play through with more emphasis on the frigate builds. But in this playthrough I mostly try to graduate to big ships. It... has mixed results :-) Guns are probably the most important aspect of ship design.

@@WadeStar Even in IRL, the big boys only make up a small part of a proper fleet. Cruisers are usually ship to ship fighters but frigates and destroyers are a protective screen for the capital ships. So a strong frigate fleet is a great foundation, I look forward to seeing your playthrough for it. Out of curiosity, do you plan to launch that playthrough in .96a? Saw somewhere that just came out and I've got to know what a "missile that shoots lasers" is about XD

Hey Wade, you really should have played the Tutorial off-screen & read everything carefully. "Going Slow" is not turning off the steady burn. You have to hold down the 'S' key. If you want to dive into the story missions, go back to the Galtia system and check with the new space station there.

I meant to check the tutorial off-camera and just ended up playing instead. I'll go check it. I got the "s" key and also that going dark is the same as going slow (at least with the sensor skill I took). Wasn't sure what's up with "normal" speed.

I think I'm really going to like the new skill system. I mean we'll have to wait and see once people can get deeper into it but so far at least I really like how it forces choice. I ended up stuck staring at sensors and navigation myself for quite a while.

Yeah, this game gets a lot of strategy-level mechanics right in a way other games don't. It felt like you had more options with the previous system but actually you didn't. You were forced into no-brainer choices and simply spending points in order to get the thing you needed. This cuts that crap out even though there are now less "clicks" to make to spend points in pointless ways.

Great to see another playthrough Vanilla style! Are you going to colonize another [Redacted] system? We know you like them :) About the initial refitting I always put expanded cargo holds in the wayfarer and Shepherd, it gives you a lot of space for cargo in the initial months. Also I stript the wayfarer from most weapons and try to get a tactial laser and one of the speedy hull mods. It becomes a great "can't touch this" ship :)

completely different games. I only ST:F, which I would say has a stronger story. This game is much more resource and simulation than CRPG. Finally, Starsector is the superior game by far. But that's true when comparing to most games in general.

I have been playing for a while, and best I can say is that contacts are good when trying to go for missions for specific factions. Tracking down specific blueprints become more viable with a certain person, but story points are required and doesn't give double XP bonus. But in the generated systems there are new things. Terrifying things.
