that's interesting, i hear it as him talking about the difficulties of day to day life when dealing with trauma, "sometimes i slip and start to question if it was only in my mind" hes self reflecting before he delivers the line. the disappearing to me could also be a reference to disassociating, he may be losing himself in his grief from the initial loss. definitely been there before, love how it can easily mean both things. expert level lyricism.

I've listened to HORIZONS about three times now. It may be too early to say, but I think I'm comfortable saying this is my new favorite STARSET track. The themes, the insane bass line (and its subsequent mixing), arguably the best strings of any track, the length, that insane bridge, the chorus... seriously. I can't give this song enough praise. Everything hits exactly what I hoped for. During the stream, I was so excited that this was even thought of. Yes indeed. DISAPPEAR is my new favorite STARSET track. Absolutely phenomenal.
@HerrSaschlik3 жыл бұрын
What do you think about something wicked and annihilated love. They also really slap and are kinda the same theme? Those 3 and earthrise are my favorites. Much love.
@ScamwatchDallin3 жыл бұрын
@@HerrSaschlik My opinion on SOMETHING WICKED isn't a popular one. I totally see the appeal, but seeing as how it's the second of two tracks on the album with screams, I wanted it to go way harder. Honestly, I wanted it to explode with emotion, but it only really did for like four seconds. I don't think it's bad, but that track, and THIS ENDLESS ENDEAVOR were my two least favorites. They built up to something amazing, and from my perspective, dropped the ball regarding potential. SOMETHING WICKED was dark, but ended before I could really get scared of that darkness, if that makes sense. So again, totally get the appeal, but I didn't really like it. (And on a minor note, you have to remember that the last three album closers have been gargantuan tracks-with special note to EVERGLOW and DIVING BELL. SOMETHING WICKED could have taken at least two more minutes to close the album, and take me on a more impactful journey.) As for ANNIHILATED LOVE, my opinion is also unpopular because I love that track. People whine about how STARSET is complacent in their song structure, and totally ignore the excellent verses in ANNIHILATED LOVE. I'm happy they didn't dwell on the chorus too long. It allowed the track to tell me a beautiful story. That track is up there for me as a favorite. Also, totally with you on EARTHRISE. That was a beautiful track.
@HerrSaschlik3 жыл бұрын
@@ScamwatchDallin beautifully written. Hard for Me to return the favor because normally I don't talk about starset. I think I'm the only one in my friend group who listens to em. I think something wicked ends pourly that's true it could have dilivered a little more. Like you said everglow and diving bell brought a whole different package also 2 of my favorite songs. To something wicked what I really like is it kinda remindse of telescope just these clear vocals which put shivers down my spine. That's for the first half the after the drop it kinda falls of. And for annihilated love I mean I also don't get the hate. The first time I listen I didn't really bother. But when I sat down again really focused on the lyrics this time my God. It's absolutely heart breaking and relatable. For me it was like reading my last break up kinda. I could not take my eyes off they lyrics which just flow perfectly into the drop of the chorus. Stunning! Greatings from Germany tho.
@HerrSaschlik3 жыл бұрын
@@ScamwatchDallin but on another note. Can we just appreciate the fact that every fcking time starset sets new favorites. Like you listen to one song and think to yourself my God this is so good my absolute favorite and 2 or 3 songs later your just like oh my God nvm this is even more beautiful. And then this happens every album lmao. Truly blessed to be alive in a time like these and experience this. Truly.
@ScamwatchDallin3 жыл бұрын
@@HerrSaschlik Haha, amen to that! There's always two or three standout tracks. And your analysis on SOMETHING WICKED makes a ton of sense. It's easily the rawest track in terms of vocals. Blessed to be in these times indeed! There's truly nothing like this band. Copycats may rise, but STARSET is a classic case of nothing beating the original. Heck, even now, I'm still gleaning new insights and themes from previous albums, and I couldn't honestly tell you how many times I've listened to them. I'm sure HORIZONS will be no different.

The most disheartening song, but at least it gives me a semblance of feeling again from all the numbness. This song reminds me of all my good times with the ones I loved and cared for only for them to betray my feelings and cut me down. Ah yes those were the days. I just don't feel anything anymore. A constant numbness to such a degree that I can't be bothered to even care that it isn't normal. I'm married but feel nothing. I have a son yet still felt nothing. The only thing I can give them is try being a husband and father to the best of my ability. I hope that one day I can feel again for their sake and my own, but at the same time I wouldn't care if I felt anything again. But this song. For some reason is just so connecting to me. @xanothia3 жыл бұрын
I don't believe that's the case here. Although this is a good theory, it moreso feels like both "ANNIHILATED LOVE" and "DISAPPEAR" talk about the same two people. Let's say that "ANNIHILATED LOVE" is sung from the man's perspective in this relationship. (Gender doesn't really matter here, it's just easier to differentiate the two characters with something as simple as man and woman). The two lovers were great but something was happening during the course of their relationship. They were doing really well, but the woman doesn't have complete control over her emotions and sometimes can get too heated over the smallest things. I think "MANIFEST" is a really good prelude to this. The woman is constantly trying to express herself but isn't getting through so her attacks are getting bigger and bolder but she isn't getting across to the man. Eventually she goes too far in her quest but doesn't realize that she has, and ends up breaking him completely. Now every time she tries to express herself he just glazes over and begins to ignore her. He's decided to spend less time with her and do his own thing for a while. Here's where "DISAPPEAR" comes in. She's now starting to realize what had happened and is hating this. She wants the attention, passion, and love they once shared, but it's no longer there. Yes, they're still in a relationship, and things seem okay on the outside, but on the inside it feels completely different. I think that's what this song is about.

This song is perfect, but it makes me cry every time. I know I've done things wrong, and I have regrets, but there were people I wish I could talk to one more time. But I just see them fading into dust within my mind, and I'm left behind. Amazing song, but hits just too close to home.

Startset se tornou um das minha bandas mais ouvidas no últimos anos, sempre fico esperando novidades, e nunca me canso de ouvir. Startset has become one of my most listened to bands in recent years, I'm always waiting for news, and I never get tired of hearing it.
@rexorchid97453 жыл бұрын
Hearing this song so many times just never gets old and sounds more beautiful each time. But I do see it from a second perspective that fits alongside. Some lyrics of the song sound self-reflective, like looking in the mirror. Alchemy and Something Wicked hint at this as well. Alchemy is realization that something is off about one's body; Disappear is seeing someone who was once close/distancing from who you are and known to be; Something Wicked is the dread and results of that wrong feeling inside. Song lore is fun. Seeing how each song may tie into each other and the artist/band is enjoyable, so please keep that in mind if commenting.

Wow!!!!! Now i see disappear from another point of view, like you said, looking at the mirror. Thank you so much! Starset songs and lyrics can have so many points of view and all of them hit so hard

When a band is always showing in every album a lot of diversity, then their fans are used to that and never question the novelty they experiment. Groups like BringMeTheHorizon did Metal too much and so their community is too much used to that and doesnt accept their evolution. Kinda saddening but imo showing diversity since the start is a good choice
@cime623 жыл бұрын
@Omar Yañez Zavala Same man, but their community is more close-minded than starset one, sadly
@shamsow3 жыл бұрын
Man you really can't please everyone. Group doesn't change, people complain their sound is getting boring. Group changes, people complain it sounds too different to their usual stuff. I mean, even on the other tracks of Horizons you can find people complaining that this album just sounds the same as older ones (I don't agree obv).
@cime623 жыл бұрын
@@shamsow Yeah exactly ! But starset community seems to be happy with their songs you know I dont feel like we all complain about starset songs :D

Bmth evolved with every album, growing gradually over time into something more experimental, even though they were always experimental, and I love every single album they've put out.
@cime623 жыл бұрын
@@vizz00 Yep, slow and progressive evolution. Experimental I can agree but still staying in the same genre. Experimentations were 25% of their albums now it's about 80% :)

I mean, comparisons are probably drawn because Dustin and Ben are friends, and Dustin's openly said he took inspiration from Breaking Benjamin. Just listen to the Downplay version of DARK ON ME. It's practically a Breaking Benjamin song. Not really disagreeing though. This song is SSS-tier.

This song is very special to me, it was there when I was losing touch with all my friends and started having suicidal thoughts for the first time. It has made me cry multiple times as a result and any song that can do that to me is something else entirely in my book. I never would have guessed a sci-fi rock band would be what I go to in my worst moments but here we are. Really goes to show how epic this band really is.

Sounds like someone who got their heart broken by someone they loved He tried to get them to understand what he felt but… they don’t So now he hides from them to avoid that heartbreaking feeling of “Things will never be the same no matter what I do”

Did any of you also expect Dustin to repeat the ''disappear'' part 1 or 2 more times at the end of the 2 last chorus? I want to think that he didn't repeat it on purpose to create an effect. At the moment when we peak emotionally (cuz the chorus hit hard) and want/need comfort with more Dustin vocals, we are just left with the instrumental and this feeling of needing more and loneliness..cuz he's gone...he disappeared....just like the one you use to love and the theme of the song.
