was he having voice problems? i really wonder about it sometimes. you can tell the vocal styling has changed a bit since Vessels. Not going as hard, relying on synth-y voice filters, ..and now the 2nd album in less than 6 months? I wonder if he's trying to get as much out as possible before he loses his "energy"

@jimjob10564 жыл бұрын
He has a bit of rasp to his voice, and he uses that in certain parts to get something that sounds almost like a scream but not quite, probably because he is adding distortion to a lower note then adding rasp onto it. Rather than doing a low fry scream where you have the vocal fry then you add distortion, though you fan tell when he properly screams cause you can hear the vocal fry pretty clearly

A lot of you saying that Dustin's voice improved. From what?? Since 2005 with Downplay til now, he's always been an amazing singer. Saw Starset live 3 years ago and guess what? His voice was amazing then too. Not to mention, I am a trained vocalist and Dustin is not the easiest to cover. So, what am I missing here?
@thegamerpokemon57675 жыл бұрын
There was a lot of people in some of the Vessels and Transmission tracks that downplayed his live performances, using the Satellite live performance as an example, and thus saying his voice is only good in the songs because of the editing. I think people base it off that.
@faithk10045 жыл бұрын
He’s been touring for a while and his voice has been pretty bad and scratchy for the past year. He’s an amazing live vocalist but his voice was overworked. He has improved while he took a short break before this concert.

@@faithk1004 When I went to the live concert near me last year, his voice sounded pretty tired. I still greatly enjoyed the performance, if I'm going live it's not for studio quality music, it's for the show. And yknow what? Hearing his voice sounding so tired and strained made me realize that even despite that, he was still being completely genuine with no tuning or lipsyncing, and I respect that. Be realistic, if bands catered to fans schedules...then they would only play on Saturday and Sunday. Bands need to be able to make a living. If you really want to see a band... you would sacrifice sleep (if your in school) or request the next day off from work. No excuses.

Honestly he should just program all his effects he uses on the albums into a mic somehow. So that all the effects come out live, but he's technically still singing live. With any other band i'd be mad if they did that, but these guys are all about technology. They should go full on tech and just own that persona. They are supposed to be from the future or w/e so fuck it man build a damn custom mic with Arduino, make that shit voice command so you just tell it what song you're going to sing and it has all the preset effects ready. He sounds good live, it's just difficult to recreate what we hear on the album because there's a lot of special effects thrown in, so not saying he's not doing great because he is... I just like all the high-tech. stuff. I was even thinking about designing helmets for them with actual holographic projections like in their music video. They used special effects for that video, but that can actually be done and if they wore that shit on stage it would be so badass. With enough tech. they could pretty much like like time travelers or something.

@@The-Warrior-Optimist thanks for the suggestion. It's the first time i've heard about this shop. but after i saw the prices of 700 dollars for the coat and 200 for the glasses i regret what i said in my first comment

I wonder why the women are half-naked but the men are more clothed than average people. Kind of reminds me when you get some armour in a game, put it on a man and it looks like proper armour, but you put it on a woman and it's a bikini. Not complaining though.

I've seen some live videos and I see his improvement during time. Also, a comfortable outfit helps a lot, he'd better not wear a bow tie to sing, he sounds like he's not able to breathe well. Great work, Dustin
