🔴 Starship Flight 6 | Plane Crazy Starship

PCS is targeting NET June 26th, 2024 for the 6th flight of Starship. This flight will demonstrate our capabilities of reusing the most powerful heavy-lift rocket booster ever made by catching it out of the sky. After gathering data from the results of Flight 5, we once again made reconfigurations to the booster RCS, as well as a redesign of the grid fins. The grid fins no longer have control of the booster as we switched them from wing panels to ladders. This was made due to the fact that grid fins change their airflow when the booster is descending, causing the grid fins and RCS to almost cancel out each other. With the grid fins no longer having control, the booster will fully depend on the RCS which doesn't change direction based on whether the booster is ascending or descending.
The ship, nicknamed Ship Grippy, will aim for a suborbital trajectory this flight. It will reenter over the ocean using it's heat tiles and fall in a horizontal position, what we like to call the belly flop maneuver. Moments before hitting the water, the ship will relight 3 of it's 6 engines and perform the landing burn flip maneuver before successfully making a soft splashdown in the ocean. The ship is not planned to be recovered this flight, however this demonstration is to verify that the ship is ready for a future catch to make this vehicle fully reusable.
No new cladding has been bolted onto the tower for this launch as it feels unnecessary to do so at this time. In the future, we will add more cladding to fully cover the tower struts and the chopstick arms.
A launch window is open from 3:00pm PDT - 8:00pm PDT. This means if we needed to finish up something that is vital to the flight, we'd be able to hold for up to 5 hours.
