My father came to the US in the mid 60s after accepting a job at one of our fine institutions of learning. He’s been rather nostalgic of New Zealand lately which is where he’s from and had no idea of the space program there as his area of expertise is at the bottom of oceans or somewhere between sea level and the bottom. The look of amazement followed by a joke only an 86 year old child could give watching your footage on mute was exactly how I hoped this trip to visit again for Thanksgiving would go. Sure beats the grainy footage we watched on a Betamax of a pixel that barely stood out from a sub he’d share after coming home from some location I’d never heard of so thanks for sharing that.

I love the idea of Starships being built in Boca Chica, launched from there, and then landed in Cape Canaveral for reuse. No land transport is required.

With Titan’s thick atmosphere and super low gravity, I’ve always suggested a lighter than air probe, or at least buoyantly neutral probe. You could employ a rigid “balloon” or “anti-ballast” tank to keep it just short of floating so it would take almost no energy to raise and move around, and no energy to lower.
@otpyrcralphpierre17422 сағат бұрын
Good idea, but are there any big storms on Titan that could wreck it?

I’m with you on the nasa funding. Spend that money on rovers, cool missions like dragonfly, telescopes, probes, and other payloads. They just aren’t good at getting together a launch vehicle at a reasonable price, so I think they should contract out all launch vehicles entirely so they have more money to spend on the really cool stuff.
@admarsandbeyond29 минут бұрын
NASA isn't good at making anything at a reasonable price. Cheap and abundant launch will allow all these to become less mass restrained and much cheaper with commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) components. NASA should contract out all hardware.

@djohannsson8268Сағат бұрын
It would be nice if Space X would eventually practice a manned Starship catch abort. They could use the rcs cold thrusters to keep the ship vertical during the water entry phase. If the LOX fuel tank is almost empty they could flood that tank with seawater and keep the ship upright allowing the crew to escape, vs smacking the water causing a methane explosion. There would also be the case of a booster failure after liftoff. Starship could attempt a early hot stage separation, with Space X commanding the booster to shut down and issue the seperation command.

While there are a number of problems associated with launching the Starship, one big problem is "sound" suppression. Environmental groups are now beginning to highlight the problem more and more yet I haven't heard anything recently about how SX is dealing with it. Are there any measures to deal with sound suppression being taken with this new flame trench? As the Starship gets bigger the problem with sound suppression does the same. I would like to hear more about this situation in a future video.
@classydave7542 минут бұрын
The only thing I read, after IFT-1 or 2, was that the sound levels were 20dB higher than expected around the site... Nothing since then. I think no one cares, except environmental groups (rightfully). Now that the orange Nazi and his crock of fascist psychopathic baboons are in charge, you can expect more deregulation and conflicts of interests, at the expense of population safety obviously. But since more than half of America gleefully voted for their own and evident demise, they will probably like it. Enjoy.

It would be great if the Starship would land at some isolated area at Perth Airport. It would be no problem to install the same landing gear that were used on the Starship up and down flights and landings. Then Australian workers wouldn't have to gather up and load pieces. Maybe use a "truck train" to move it to a hanger where it could be examined. This also would be a great demo for the U.S Space Forces to observe what they are wanting to use the Starship for, to launch 100 tons to anyplace on this planet in one hour.

Those metal sheets that are interconnected form what's called a cofferdam. This is designed to keep water out of the building area. In many photos and video from before you can see bilge pumps pumping water out of the work area. This is a common practice in the southern part of the United States because most of that land sits at sea level. This type of engineering is specifically used when building bridges over rivers and streams all across the world. Because most of the southern states sit at sea level this is why people are buried above ground and houses don't have basements. The water table may only sit at 4 - 6 feet under the surface of the ground.

13d refly. So if they could make 15 boosters each with 24 reflies, it would be enough for these same 15 boosters to cover one launch per day everyday for a year. Even if one could only do less than 12 reflies, they would need less than 30 to cover a year's day-to-day launches. Quite amazing.

Years in the future, I know, but where do you think the first inland Starship launch facility will be located? Boca Chica, and Florida won't be able to handle the pace forever, and the coasts are all densely populated... West Texas, maybe?
@Luke-Norris2 сағат бұрын
For a Mars transit they will need rockets to slow the ship upon arrival; there’s hardly an atmosphere to use as a brake. However, with the ability to refuel in orbit before the journey you could also accelerate the ship to double orbital velocity and cut the Mars transit time in half
@admarsandbeyond24 минут бұрын
There is enough atmosphere to slow it down, spacecraft have been aerobraking into Mars for decades. Crewed Starships will be transiting at about 115 days.

Any speculation on how soon we can expect to see starship and the boosters flying from Texas to Florida. Not sure if the booster can make the complete trip but if possible might be a substitute for building a second factory. No reason that a starship couldn’t make the trip eventually. This assumes the trip to Florida is a bit far on the transporters and not sure if they could tip them onto their side to ship on a barge, upright seems a little improbable.
