In five flights, SpaceX goes from destroying the launch pad to catching the booster.

4 flights x 33 engines = 132 engines total. These are raptor version 2. One failed during launch => (131 / 132 = ) 99.242% reliability in these prototypes. I am certain SpaceX will improve this in raptor version 3.

I was wondering why IFT 4 was so much slower then realized it was the one with the engine failure lol

Quite shocking that a single engine can make the flight a little longer
@lorenz27812 ай бұрын
@@notaq9727 I think they throttled the opposite engine accordingly to support a stable flight path which meant (almost) 2 engines being lost. If I recall correctly....

Interesting... IFT2 was using more Methane than Oxygen, to the exact opposite amount as the others. I wonder if they had the wrong data being applied (swapped, in other words)? edit: Oh they also flipped Starship's engine readout after IFT3 😅

It would be fun to make some velocity and altitude graphs, Insane how much faster IFT-5 came back with that speed, But IFT-2 also seemed to have a higher TWR at the start
@vortexgaming73643 ай бұрын
Flight 3 and 4 lifted off at t+00:00:02 but flight 5 took off at like T+ 00:00:05. Did they tweak it or did something fail

Likely a different and more efficient throttling profile. For example, jets don’t floor it on takeoff. They have a certain throttle profile so they don’t damage the engines.
@avsrule2473 ай бұрын
I don't know for certain but I assume it was a gradual throttle-up to make sure they had healthy engines at all throttle ranges, because they would need complete control during the catch attempt. If the engines struggled at minimum throttle, the catch would have been aborted at lift-off, and the booster would have fallen into the ocean.
@loadmastergod19613 ай бұрын
I noticed it watched live stream. I think it was a slower ramp up to the desired TWR, rather than punching it to the theoretical throttle position. But im not part of tge decision matrix, nor a space x employee

In five test flights, SpaceX goes from being a joke to making history. That's how close things are. It's a thin line we're walking on. Derive from it in just the slightest is the difference between ridicule and heroism. This is heroism.
