Start a Cut Flower Garden in Early Spring, Things We Overlook

Hi! My name is Crane. Welcome to my suburban cottage home garden in New Jersey Zone 7, in naturalistic garden style. I mainly grow cut flowers, greens, and herbs and make garden bouquets to sell at my roadside stand. I grow all kinds of vegetables and, sometimes, cook. I left my snapdragons outside in soil blocks during a thunderstorm 😢. I think I saved and got most of them replanted except for the tiniest ones

Oh Crane I love that tiny bouquet. Every year my friends and I attend an annual daffodil event held by the Granville Gardening Club at a historic estate here in Ohio. I remember seeing similar miniature daffodil arrangements in the tiniest antique flower vases and containers. The flower show is so inspirational and you can then order a huge variety of daffodil bulbs through the garden club. If you have something similar in your area I encourage you to attend. It is always so enjoyable to see how others grow and arrange flowers.

Hi Crane I found you from Northlawn and been watching all your videos :-) This is my daughter’s account but I have a cut garden like yours but not as big. I started to do winter sow couple years ago and this year I did all winter sowing for my seedlings I meant all. I am in northern va zone 6b. I found that all seedlings outside so much stronger and you don’t need to harden off and save so much time. I used shoe boxes and they work so good compared to milk jar. Try for next year save you so much time. You are awesome I love your personality you will be so successful. I also sell my flowers and it a fun side hassle:-)

Love your mini bouquet sooo much! I just wanted to give you a little warning about the last frost date moving up because of global warming. I see the same thing happening here up in Massachusetts but last year we had two bad frost after it gotten quite warm out. I had put all of my seedlings out early because I thought like you it was safe! I had many dead seedlings!😢 I was very very sad! I was speaking with a local farmer and he told me the same thing that even though the temperatures are getting warmer that we have extreme weather where we get cold frost in the spring I am just telling you this, so you are aware and will be careful, and it won’t happen to you what happened to me last year which was terrible. My poor little seedlings. I can totally delete to you, having to look away! Lol!

I put it in the water barrel to make liquid fertilizer. I am afraid to put in compost because of the weed seeds. My compost is not heated enough to kill the seeds

It's autumn here now and thinking about what to plant for next summer; I sowed a whole packet of gaillardia seeds in late summer but not a single one came up: SO disappointing as I love the bright yellow splash I was hoping for.
