My Mom just got me the book and it is INCREDIBLE! I am disabled and unfortunately my medical issues have me currently unable to work most regular jobs. I enjoy sharpening and have been learning to use my Wicked Edge from Kyle’s KZbin channel and this book is incredibly comprehensive! Thank you for writing this book!!!!

$1,000 a month doesn’t even scratch the surface of this fantastic simple business. I’ve made that in a single day. Not every day but one day I did (over 70 knives.) I regularly make it per week and often more than that in a week. Sometimes much more. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I’m not mobile. People bring their knives to me at home and business is growing week by week. If it suits you. DO IT!

I hear you man, my day job covers the bills but doesn't leave anything left over. My sharpening business has changed our lives. Plenty of opportunity out there too. Congrats on publishing your book!

just found your channel, thanks! I've had a wicked edge just sitting on my shelf, waiting for only my knives....

Kyle, I've watched your video on sharpening in 4mins (Excellent vid!), and purchased your new book. I'm wondering, if you have or plan to do a video on touch ups/maintenance. I have some knives from the factory that I'd like to be "wicked" sharp but I don't want to mess them up. I'm a noobie with the wicked edge and have been doing great with your suggested progression. I also have the higher level stones as well. Appreciate all the help and guidance on this!

Great video!! I’ve been self employed now for 30 years as a contractor doing a variety of traders over the years. As I move into my years mid 60’s and my body is showing signs of wear I am researching sharpening . I have been sharping my knives, chisels, planes, chainsaws, drill bits etc...for many years however I see that I will need to up my game in order to do sharpening for money. My gut tells me that this is a possible means to pad our budget without the full blown commitment 12 months a year to my business that I’ve been living with for 30 years, for myself and many retirement is not a paid experience and living is costly. I don’t want to drive a school bus, or work retail....sharpening could be the ticket.

Kyle, I'm in Australia, my Wicked Edge Gen 3 is on the way, how can I get hold of your book? PM me. Andy

Hey Andy, the best bet is probably going to be the ebook which you can get on my website or Amazon. I’m working on getting paperback distribution set up but I’m not 100% sure how international will work yet.

Wow! Thank you for sharing your experience. I have a passion for knives and have been learning how to sharpen. I have a KME and a Worksharp Ken Onion with the blade grinding attachment. Coworkers have been asking me to sharpen their knives and I am getting better and more confident. I will order your book when available. Is your method Wicked Edge based? Or does it work with and do you talk about other sharpening systems in your book? Thank you
@startaknifesharpeningservi12913 жыл бұрын
My method is mainly Wicked Edge based, but a lot of the general sharpening principles apply to many sharpening systems, and the business strategies discussed in the book could be applied to sharpening services with a wide variety of equipment.

@@startaknifesharpeningservi1291 well Kyle, I downloaded your book and I will dive right in and see for myself. Again, thank you so much for sharing your experiences. The small amount I have read thus far I can see how practical and helpful your book is.

This would be cool to fox out of the back of one of those newer vans with the stand up area . I know a locksmith who makes all his stuff in the back of his van . Makes a good buck as a locksmith

My dream is to equip a cool motor home for sharpening and travel the country sharpening with my dog. Leave the city behind. Cheaper than a house. But still $100,000 to do it properly. Not impossible.

Just ordered at Amazon. It's gotta be easier and cheaper than opening a restaurant. I'm thinking your estimates might be a little low. This is something that lots of people will need and it all comes down to marketing. I would imagine that there are knife sharpeners doing quite well.

Thanks Kyle for writing this book and laying out the basics for starting up a sharpening business. I had been thinking about a business that I could do going into retirement. I like knives and had been looking at different sharpening systems on the internet. I happen to see your 4 minute sharpening test video. That video led me to this video and your book. I am so glad it did. The different aspects of a sharpening service start up are touched upon but it was the quality of care for the knife and customer service that stood out to me. The book is a very good starting point and good reference to get your business off the ground.

Can it become a full time job? What are your thoughts on scaling it?
@iSharpen4 ай бұрын
Yes. I do it from home. Better than a full time income from a job.

I've made it most of the way through the book. You've presented a lot of very helpful information. Do I understand correctly that you don't sharpen serrated knives? If so, how often does this present an obstacle for your customers? Most kitchen knife sets seem to have at least a bread knife, if not also a set of steak knives.
@startaknifesharpeningservi12913 жыл бұрын
That’s a great question. I have some tools that I can use to sharpen serrated knives: spyderco sharpmaker and some small files. I usually don’t like to sharpen serrated knives because I can’t get them as sharp as other knives, so when I attempt to sharpen serrated knives I feel like I’m bending my brand promise a little bit. I really only do serrated knives if customers insist and after I explain the process and how the results may differ than the results on their other knives. It definitely comes up from tone to time, but most customers do already know that sharpening serrated knives isn’t really a standard thing people do.

@@startaknifesharpeningservi1291 No worries. I'll wait for the paperback. It makes more sense when I can see it. I just bought a Wicked Edge gen 3 pro, and I'm trying to figure out how to make a go of it. The timing on your video couldn't be better. Thanks for putting your knowledge out there.
