out of all my years of making art, ive never heard the tips youve gave from anyone else on this platform. they usally make points about where the clothing folds would bunch up but not why they would bunch up in a certain area. you go over types of material, material thickness, main areas where folds takes place, "secondary(?)" areas where folds would take place, and more like the look of what an artist might wanna go for (cartoony or semi-realistic). this is by far the most helpful clothing folds tutorial ive ever watched, thank u for ur service.

The best advice I’ve gotten on fabric is to just wing it. Seriously folds are not important. Just get something that looks roughly correct

Thank you so much for making this! I’ve watched several videos on how to draw clothes and clothing folds, and they would explain how different fabrics have different folds, but they didn’t explain the different types of folds like the loops vs the triangles I also definitely need to use references more often (not just for clothes, I need to use them more in general), so I’ll be sure to do that

In stage-costume design class, my prof gave us a little quote for remembering where buttons went "women are always right and men are left over", so to button up women's clothes, the right side with the holes goes over the left side with the buttons, and for men, they'll have the left side of the clothes with the holes go over the buttons on the right. That prof taught me a bunch of other stuff too, but this is what always comes into my head whenever I remember him XD It's helped me a lot when drawing jackets cause I never noticed the buttons were different before.

I feel like I kinda got the feel of this. But I now feel like I got a way better grasp of it now that it was explained to me. Especially with the distinction between thick and stiffer fabrics. This will help me feel way less intimidating when trying to make fabric wrinkled. C:

One thing that helps me the most in drawing is having a reference then I can see exactly what I'm drawing instead of trying to draw from my memory.

You are so GOOD at doing everything in just ten minutes: list all the rules, provide examples, show how it's drawn, explain why, give analogies if it's not quite intuitive, and then you even sprinkle in some fun jokes and pleasant visuals. You're amazing, seriously. I love most art youtubers for their passion and personality and talent for explaining art verbally. But I don't think I've ever had anything art-related explained so extremely thoroughly in such a short amount of time. Wow. Thank you so much for sharing your talent and experience and effort with us, in your uniquely well-thought-out way.

the distinction between drawing folds in the lineart vs showing them with color is HUGE. it's something I've noticed recently and it's great to see it confirmed here. I don't fully understand the "loops" but I will keep looking at refs

this has got to be one of the best art channels i've ever watched, you focus a lot on physics and the more literal part of things, where too many other people just say, "Do it this way because it looks better." (Not that they're wrong, it just shows a better understanding of _why_ it looks better.)

Appreciation rant! So this may be a bit long since I sometimes go off on a tangent on things. I've seen a few books, random tutorials, references, etc for clothing folds and yet I learned the most from this video. I started art in June of 2020 and have been doing it almost daily since. Lately I haven't been able to because of school, but these videos help me get back into the flow of it. I show them to my friend and she also appreciates them, and we both learn so much :D

I have years of drawing experience on paper and a few years with digital art but all self-taught, so this video definitely called me out in the right way lol, especially with the "thinking that more folds makes it look better". It also really helped me analyze the anatomy of folds and tension way better whereas originally I just drew them wherever I thought it looked sorta natural.

Idk how to say it. Your explanations rlly tickle my brain the right way. Like the sidenotes you put down mirror the way I think when I draw, so I get to understand it pretty quickly. Otherwise it's hard for me to understand with the more straightforward explanations from other creators. In a nutshell, thank u, lol.

Folds are my nightmare lol My niece, who's 9 years younger than me and still a young teen, she draws SO much better than me, she knows how to draw humans that are human-shaped and clothes that look like clothes and folds that look real, I struggle with these things, and I'm trying to make a manga of my own. I'm not BAD at drawing, I am good at it, but it's definitely not "anime-listic". I'm trying to go for a more simple style that's easier for me to draw (coz I tend to get impatient but I love to draw and make stories) but still looks good, kinda like One Piece but... maybe even simpler? XD Definitely gonna study these tutorials so I can get better at drawing clothes, hands, backgrounds, anatomy and all sorts of stuff. I already learned a few things I didn't know or realize by watching these videos. So thanks! :)
